A thread we have never had to consider before. Ever! Imagine that? A thread we have never had because, although we have won three European trophies all of them were outside of the history of the competition and indeed before the invention of the internet! I only learned today that the Super Cup was originally played between the winners of the European Cup (now Champions League) and the winners of the now defunct Cup Winners Cup up until 1999 and as we won the Cup Winners Cup in 1963 which was before the Super Cup existed and the UEFA Cup in 1972 and 1984, prior to UEFA Cup winner participation that is the reason that Tottenham Hotspur have never competed in it before. Club history will thus be made when we step out into the Stadio Friuli on 13 August 2025. What an opportunity for our squad!

This piece from the Official UEFA Super Cup site explains the history of the tournament:

How the fixture came about
Just as the idea for the European Champion Clubs' Cup came to fruition after French newspaper L'Equipe's assertion that Stade de Reims Champagne could be the best club side in Europe, the idea for a UEFA Super Cup came from a Dutch source just when Dutch clubs, and more particularly Ajax, ruled supreme in Europe.
The competition was the brainchild of Anton Witkamp, then a reporter and later sports editor of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Witkamp came up with the idea of "something new" to decide definitively the top club side in Europe, and to further test Ajax's ability. "The idea was conceived in the era of total football. Our era – four consecutive European Cups between Feyenoord and Ajax," he explained. "More than money and glory, they were pursuing the right to be called the best.
"But who was the strongest team in Europe, which team ought to have been the strongest? The team that won the European Cup? In principle, yes. Yet football is often a hymn to relativity and, for this reason, can be an imprecise art. So why not pit the holders of the European Champion Clubs' Cup against the winners of the Cup Winners' Cup? Why not throw down a challenge to Ajax?
"Rangers had won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1972. I put forward my plan to the Ajax boss [Jaap] van Praag, who found it an excellent idea. Consequently, the way was clear, with the patronage of my newspaper."
Witkamp and Van Praag sought official endorsement for the new competition from European football's governing body, but none was forthcoming, largely because Rangers were under a one-year suspension from UEFA due to the misbehaviour of their supporters. However, the match went ahead, albeit in an unofficial capacity, as the Scottish club, who were having centennial celebrations that year, willingly obliged. Witkamp decided on a two-legged format to maximise revenue for both clubs.
The games, financially backed by De Telegraaf, the best-selling paper in the Netherlands, took place on 16 and 24 January in Glasgow and Amsterdam respectively. Goals from Johnny Rep, Cruyff and Arie Haan gave Ajax a 3-1 victory in Glasgow, while Alex McDonald scored Rangers' goal. McDonald was on the mark again in the second leg along with Quentin Young, but they were again outgunned with Haan, Gerd Mühren and Cruyff scoring in a 3-2 win.
The first UEFA-sanctioned Super Cup matches took place in January 1974, although it was officially the 1973 final. The first UEFA Super Cup proper took place at San Siro, where Ajax lost 1-0 to AC Milan. Ajax made no mistake in the return leg in Amsterdam and won 6-0.
Though Witkamp's raison d'être of celebrating Ajax had been emphatically achieved, the competition still took time to take off. Indeed, there was no 1974 contest with Bayern München and Magdeburg unable to find a mutually convenient date. Liverpool could not make space to meet Dinamo Tbilisi in 1981 and could only find one date to play Juventus in 1984.
This was one of the three times the UEFA Super Cup was played as a single match before the current format began in 1998. The other one-off ties came in 1991, when the political situation compelled Manchester United and Crvena zvezda to meet only at Old Trafford, and 1986, when Steaua Bucureşti and Dinamo Kyiv played the first Super Cup at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. The competition took up permanent residence in Monaco between 1998 and 2012, with the match played to signal the start of the season. After the last UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1999, the UEFA Champions League winners took on the UEFA Cup victors (UEFA Europa League from 2010) and the trophy is now contested in a different European city each year.

UEFA Super Cup Final place booked with Europa League win
@SpursOfficial
Sat 24 May 2025, 09:00
We will contest the UEFA Super Cup for the first time this August after our Europa League victory earned us a place in the Final.
UEFA's showpiece event, the Super Cup is an annual final which pits the winners of the Europa League and Champions League against each other in a one-off game.
Running since 1972 but initially pitting the winners of the European Cup against the holders of the European Cup Winners' Cup against each other up until 1999, this is the first time we have qualified for the Final in our history.
This year's final will take place on Wednesday 13 August in Guglielmo Vicario's home town of Udine, Italy, at Stadio Friuli and we shall face one of Paris Saint-Germain or Internazionale, who will contest the Champions League Final next Saturday. The Super Cup Final will kick-off at 8pm (UK).
We are the eighth English team in history to qualify for the Final with six of the seven having gone on to win it (Liverpool, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest).
Both Paris Saint-Germain (1996) and Internazionale (2010) have previously played in the Final but both failed to win.

More about the stadium from Wikipedia it isn't the biggest so ticketing is going to be very interesting:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadio_Friuli

The Stadio Friuli (currently known as Bluenergy Stadium for sponsorship reasons) is an all-seater football stadium in Udine, Italy, and the home of Serie A club Udinese.
The stadium was built in 1976 and has a capacity of 25,144.
Structure
The stadium is located in Rizzi, about 4 km from the city centre of Udine.
Opened in 1976, as a replacement for Stadio Moretti, it used to have a maximum capacity of 41,652 seats.[1] This capacity was recently reduced to 25,144, when the stadium underwent reconstruction.
In 2013, the City of Udine granted Udinese Calcio a 99-year lease of the stadium.

The most recent reconstruction saw the removal of the athletics track, the demolishing of three sides of the stadium with only the "arc" / West end preserved and the three demolished stands rebuilt closer to the pitch. The cost of the redevelopment was around €50m and the work was completed with Udinese not having to move any of their home games to other stadia. The work on the new stadium officially began on 5 June 2013. During the summer of 2013, the athletics track was dismantled. On 23 June 2014, the foundation stone was laid by Udinese Calcio president Giampaolo Pozzo. The new Friuli was officially opened on 17 January 2016 when Udinese hosted Juventus. The sponsorship name of the stadium, Dacia Arena, was unveiled that day therefore the club entered into a new stadium-naming rights agreement with its parent company, Dacia.
Important events
Sports
In 1990, the stadium hosted three 1990 FIFA World Cup matches, all of which were from Group E.
In 2005, the stadium was approved by UEFA to host UEFA Champions League matches, which Udinese participated in during the 2005–06 season
On 10 September 2008, the stadium hosted the second match of the Italian national team's 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Georgia.
On 21 November 2009, the Italy national rugby team played the 2007 Rugby World Cup champions South Africa on this ground.
On 13 August 2025, the stadium will host the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.

According to ChatGPT, the cup has only been won by the europa league winners twice since 2013 (both times Athletico Madrid did it)

Tiny venue! I’ve got flights booked but with a capacity of just over 25k how many tickets will realistically be available for Spurs fans? Will the corporate allocation be in double digit thousands leaving 7.5k per team?
Also a ball ache as limited direct flights to Trieste and Venice is over an hour away.

I want to go as it may be the only time we ever play in the Super Cup, but can’t be arsed with a load of hassle & unnecessary cost.

Whereabouts are you flying from? I hesitated on booking flights to Venice last weekend. They were about £90 each way. Now they are £200 each way.

Heathrow. Quite late on the day of the match - landing at 5:45 so will be cutting it a bit fine but my son doesn’t want a day in the fan park again 🤣.

Bloody youth of today

I live just outside Udine, a couple of months ago I applied for a position as a Uefa volunteer for the match, so hopefully I'll be close to the action.

Happy to provide any info for travellers.
