Decent first half, we look comfortable in possession and lots of movement off the ball.

Looks like they’ve given Bellingham and Foden free roles to roam across the middle and they’ve been linking up well.

So nice to see an England team who are comfortable knocking the ball around in tight spaces. Tough to judge what we’d be like against a decent team but encouraging so far.

Positives: Bellingham, Saka
Negatives: Everything else?

Kane has not had a touch worth mentioning, maybe 2 flicked headers. He's in a 1v3 situation so he's not going to get much luck there, but to go an entire half without his feet touching the ball is mad.

Our best moments came before the first goal, after we scored their midfield pushed up onto our defence and were far more active in pressing us. As such we never really looked like we had control.

Foden dropping in works IF the left back has a left foot. Trippier does not so either Foden doesn't start or you make the midfield chemistry different to allow him in. At the moment it feels like we'd be best served with Eze or Gordon out there. Trent looks like he doesn't belong at CM too. I'd far rather see Mainoo or Gallagher in there, they look more comfortable on the ball when we try to play out and are also better defensively.

Been a consistent issue for England. No-one ever seems to try and find him although I'd argue Kane picked the wrong position in the box twice when we were crossing
True, he should have gone to the back post for that Walker cross when he and Foden just both stopped in the middle for the cutback

Kane has to get himself involved, imo. Make the runs to get in space and demand the ball.
Not sure he needs to, he’s currently occupying the CB’s and giving Foden / Bellingham the space to play in. If he drops back it’ll all get too congested.

Keep this going and as soon as Serbia add another player to close Foden / Bellingham then Kane will have the space to be slid through.

Classic Southgate game plan so far. Only this time he doesn't have much strength or depth in defence or central midfield to get away with it.

He'll never let our attack off the leash, and I can't wait for him to resign after this tournament.

Mind you, England have always wasted genuine multi talented attackers with uninspiring football. Just waiting for the usual defensive calamity, like a Phil Neville penalty or glen Johnson putting it in off the post.

Too many excuses get made for Kane IMO, he's the figurehead of this team he needs to get himself involved more. If the ball isn't finding you, run around and get yourself into spaces.

The lack of ball into Kane is atrocious
Play Kane is Bellingham's position and he looks just as good.

And I know he's England's top goalscorer, but I don't think Southgate has ever got the best out of him, looks a different player in club football.

agree, but also Kane needs to do more. He's really static, not really moving defenders around or making space.

Is Kane carrying an injury? He hasn't pressed or closed down at all. He's just wandering about.
Was very Ndombelesque warming up as well. Looked a bit silly. Definitely doesn't seem completely fit.

I think he's been told to stay further forward which theoretically should make space for Foden. But after seeing how it's worked I'd rather let Kane drop deep, take Foden off and put Gordon or Eze on.

That was a really good piece of analysis from lineker about what Harry may be thinking. I wish he was giving more analysis rather than asking the 3 stooges

Amazes me that we won't risk playing Bellingham alongside Rice yet we'll trust Trent, who is not a midfielder whatsoever and generally is a liability defensively.

If England are to win the Euros it will be because of Bellingham and unleashing him with freedom.

He's a great player to have for this role because he can literally do any job required.

BBC coverage not great tonight. How Rio and Micah steal a living doing this is a bit beyond me.

I think he's physically just not made for it. He'll make the right move to put in a decent enough cover shadow and shut down the keepers options, but he's not going to be going full pelt like he did back when he was 24
