We could be headed for absolute chaos. Apparently, Midtjylland fielded a player who should've been suspended in both legs against Celtic. Precedent is that Celtic would therefore be awarded two 3-0 wins, and go through in the Champions League with Midtjylland being sent down to the Europa.. The problem is that every time this has happened in the past, it's been picked up quickly. But now Midtjylland have already played the first leg of the next round in the Champions League, and Celtic are already in the Czech Republic for their Europa League tie tomorrow night!

Shades of Sion and Legia Warsaw for Celtic as Midtjylland’s Brazilian star Juninho played while suspended (thecelticstar.com)

It's an interesting one. He was suspended eight games in Brazil before his transfer. But it wasn't until yesterday that a FIFA committee confirmed that his ban had transferred with him to Denmark and UEFA. So I'm not sure if anything will come from Celtic attempting to protest.

I can't see what might be done if Midtjylland were unaware that he was banned before yesterday. If FIFA told them not to play him before the committee had made a decision, that's a different matter.

If so the likeliest scenario is surely that Midtjylland are thrown out of Europe altogether but the beneficiaries are only PSV who go through in the CL and not Celtic. There's surely no way they'll make PSV and Celtic play a one off next week.

Yeah this could be messy. But don't see how Celtic would benefit from this now. Surely it would be PSV who get a bye?

You also have the factor that the loser of PSV v Midtjylland is meant to drop into the Europa League group stage. Possible by for Celtic and a reshuffling of the draw if Midtjylland get disqualified?

I don't think it will happen but it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Either way, I say we should get promoted to the Europa League and Celtic demoted to conference league. Seems fair.

I can't understand why the CL place wouldn't go to the most recent losing finalist who hasn't qualified through their league position. It's the only logical solution to all of this.

That's sort of how it's going to work with the two coefficient places from 2024.

I don't agree with it personally. Coefficient shouldn't mean shit, last season is all that should matter. Bring back the open draw as well, no more seeding.

Rangers in a lilac kit LOL...
.
"The Ibrox side had planned to unveil the lilac design later this month but the club claim it has been forced into an early release after being left with no choice but to wear it in their third round qualifying second leg tie.

Rangers have blamed Malmo for the sudden change of plans with a club statement claiming that "due to the limited kit options made available by tonight's opponents, UEFA’s regulations stipulate that Rangers must debut the kit tonight."

The striking new Castore strip will be worn in front of over 50,000 fans as Ibrox welcomes the return of full capacity for the huge fixture"

Oops .. Keeper Alan McGregor should have been sent off there for handling outside the area by all accounts.

Said it before and I’ll say it again. Red cards need to change. Any game where a player gets a red before the 65th minute is dead. It’s not reasonable that a game (and by extension the future of a football club/national team) can be decided by the whims of one player. Add to that, it’s usually two soft yellows or something else ambiguous.

No other sport (that I’m aware of) has a team play the full game with one man down after a red. I say ban the player, but let the team sub another player on after 20 minutes or so.

Looked a 50/50 to me.

They both had boots in the air.

For me the Rangers player kicks innocent more than the other way around. He just reacted and fell down.

Rangers lose and drop down into the Europa League.

I don't think they will be wearing that lilac 3rd kit ever again.
