I went to over 500 big gigs/ matches during the 1990's and early 2000's and the only place where it got out of hand was in Paris.
In 1997 my then girlfriend and I were separated as we were crushed entering the stadium- it took over 30 minutes before we found each other again! The feckin police and stewards that day had no idea what-so-ever. I'll NEVER go to another gig/ match in France again.
People saying that Paris had limited time to set the police etc. BS! They've had World Cups and experience of crowds. Something went wrong- but the policing sadly doesn't surprise me over there.
The only positive from this is that no one was crushed

I’ve been reading lots on this this morning by reporters who were there. Seems like UEFA and the police behaved disgracefully in their management of the game and the Liverpool crowd. No doubt this would have had a knock on effect and many Liverpool fans would have rushed the gates (in fact i have seen video clips of them doing this) - some legitimate fans with bona fide tickets worried they were going to miss the game, while others may have been wankers and chancers taking advantage of a bad situation.

My inclination when hearing of English football fans (even our own) complaining about the foreign police and declaring their innocence was always “pull the other one”.

However I was in Seville in 2007 (??) and if I hadn’t seen Police behaviour inside the ground with my own eyes I would never have believed it. They literally climbed over the barrier when the game started and started swinging their batons for NO FUCKING REASON WHATSOEVER. So while I would normally expect to be instinctively on the side of the Police I cannot be wholly so.

Several things can all be true at the same time:

• The Police and UEFA, f***d up massively and caused this problem for no reason.
• We dont know whether this was just sheer French incompetence or whether their was some other motive (the Spanish fans had no problems, but the English ones did - may be nothing in it but worth considering of course)
• The chaos then caused many thousands of Liverpool fans to make a bad situation worse, even dangerous for their fellow supporters by storming the gates and turnstiles (like i said - i have seen many video clips on twitter)
• Hillborough and the 97 are etched on to the collective memory of Liverpool football club - but it seems many forgot what happens when you storm turnstiles and try and get into a ground without a ticket - of all clubs - DO NOT do this. I get the frustration but do not do this !!

I expect zero transparency from the French and from UEFA who will place 100% of the blame on the supporters though. We already got this last night with their statement that this was caused by fans arriving late which was a blatant lie

Madrid have won the CL five times in eight years. That's insane when you think about the competition. Just look at how hard Pep is finding it at City to win it once.

Puts our achievement in getting to the final into even more perspective. We didn’t win it but for us to get there was huge and also isn’t looked upon with the respect it deserves by football in this country.

When we get to the CL final in Istanbul next season think I will give it a miss , having searched Turkish police on the internet they are not adverse to a bit of tear gas & over reaction.
Unfortunately English football fans have a reputation that is hard to get rid of in Europe , watching foreign police does make you thankful for our UK police regardless of some of the criticism they get.

I just don’t understand Klopp complaining about teams that have minority possession. Has he forgotten the 2019 final? Liverpool had 35% possession. Didn’t hear him complain much about that outcome.

His standard narrative when he doesn’t win. ‘The opposition sat back and defended and just tried to hit liverpool on the counter.’ Upset that Madrid didn’t play a style to suit liverpool. He’s a clown with no plan b. If teams set up to defend against liverpool, it’s klopps job to figure it out.

I was at that Sevilla game. There were no stewards, just riot police. They had no identification on their uniforms and went berserk, cracking heads for fun. I wrote a report for the club and went to the meeting at WHL. We were told that the riot police would say anyone who complained was drunk. Some people were marched to ATMs to withdraw €1,000 or more to avoid being jailed for no reason.

The following week the Sevilla fans held up a banner apologising to Spurs fans saying “It’s not your fault”.

It was a disgrace. Had I not seen it myself, I would never have believed it.

Thats one reason why i have a lot of sympathy for the majority of Liverpool fans last night even though some took advantage of a bad a situation.

Also my experience of Liverpool fans in Madrid was a very positive - not even a hint of trouble before and after the game. Their fans were also very very gracious after the game - though i guess its easier to be gracious when you have won (we can see Klopp struggles when they dont)
