You could argue someone like Atletico or Arsenal in Pot 2 is the best position to have. You're going to get two Pot 1 sides anyway but you will probably roll a better set of Pot 2 opponents.

There isn't one and IMO that's the best redeeming quality this format has.

Another change made was how Pot 1 was constructed. It used to be that Pot 1 was the CL winner, EL winner, and top 6 league champions which led to strong sides in Pot 2 and weaker sides in Pot 1. Now only the CL holder is guaranteed Pot 1 and the remaining 7 are on merit from UEFA coefficient and are actually the top sides.

Couldn't they have made it 7 games (instead of 8) and you only face 1 team within your pot?
But that would mean less monies, and a large part of the point of the format change is to get more games between the biggest teams as early as possible.

Sure but the primary reason for the change was the aftermath of the Super League situation and wanting to have CL matchweeks with two big sides playing. The Pot 1 sides playing each other are the feature of this not a bug.

It's *possible* that rumours of the Super League played a part, but this format was confirmed long before the Super League went public. The only change since then is actually a reduction in the number of matches - 10 instead of 8 had originally been proposed (and, I think, will happen in 2027 or 2030)

Isn’t this what the super league was intended for?

seems a tad confusing, suspect it will be a nightmare for the lesser clubs to navigate (smaller squads) with more games to be played.

I like it!

Super League did have more games, but the closed shop with no qualification from domestic leagues nor any relegation was a much more notable "feature"

Yeah hear ya dude, I like this new format though, probably a good opportunity not being in it this year to see how it all plays out, work on our qualification etc

MD1 is the only matchday that stretches to the Thursday, because the EL and ECL start the week after.
MD2-7 are still over two days as usual.

Agree that MD8 is going to be brilliant, 18 games kicking off at the same time. The goal show will be must see TV that night.

The final MD is what we always want the PL to be. With only seven matches prior, the table will be close enough where most sides have something to play for.
