Not been keeping up with this. No seedings presumably, so City could theoretically play Real and Bayern in the league phase?

Yes. One of the reasons for the change was to have bigger games earlier.

Obviously since the opponents will be determined by a computer, I'm very confident there will be no accusations of the draw being fixed tomorrow. :ROFLMAO:

The final four CL teams are confirmed. League stage draw is tomorrow.
That does put Slavia into Pot 1 for the Europa League, where they're certainly one of the less glamorous draws. (Assuming Ajax don't blow a 4-1 lead against a random Polish side, Pot 1 is confirmed as Roma, Man United, Porto, Ajax, Rangers, Frankfurt, Lazio, Tottenham, and Slavia Prague. Rest of the pots depend on tomorrow night's results a lot more.)

Alonso going back to Liverpool will be a highlight. Huge disparity in how tough games the various teams get.

Not convinced about this format at all but we'll have to see how it plays out.

Atalanta (A)
Shakhtar (H)
Dinamo Zagreb (H)
Sporting Lisbon (A)
Monaco (H)
Girona (A)

Just read on BBC Atalanta play Arsenal, Barca and Real Madrid. Ouch.

I like the format, just not the way they're drawn together. Computers are advanced enough to adapt to the circumstances of how a draw progresses and give a favourable draw to any team they wish.

Sadly, the only alternative is to use balls but it would probably take 2 hours and make for a very tedious process.

I was told a simulation showed the draw would involve over 1000 balls and take over three hours. Doesn't really give them much choice but to do it like this.

I don't understand what the benefit is for being in pot 1 in this new system

Worth saying that it is in large part coincidence that the year the format changed, a lot of smaller teams from big nations have qualified. If it was Roma, Lyon, Valencia and Man United instead of Bologna, Brest, Girona and Aston Villa, the fixtures would look much tougher on paper.
