Even if we were willing to pay the transfer fee now, I can’t see it happening because it would be seen as a massive PR disaster - Spursravaged by injuries but an injured player #Spursy

PR disaster……….. actually we’ll probably sign him!

That's an incredibly generous description of what they're doing.
Agreed but like I said earlier, the optics of selling their most valuable player while they've still got 16 games to play and they're not condemned to relegation *yet* would be awful. I'd be amazed if they let him go in this window, it's not like he's going to lose value between now and the end of the season, he's obviously a star in the making.

I would guess there could be a deal to be done and a loan back for the season

Though saints are doomed in a fight for premier league survival. Either way no way does this kid play in the championship next season

surely they won't sell to relegation rivals? it would only strengthen us & help us stay up!

Apparently "sale and loan back" isn't possible between 2 clubs in the Premier League. That said, a lot of teams would see that as a challenge to get up to a bit of creative transfer malarkey to somehow get around the rules and never be punished, except for a pissy little fine 5 years down the road.

If it happens then I think it gets done for the summer anyway. Can't see him going anywhere while they're fighting for survival.

That's an incredibly generous description of what they're doing.

Even of not able to loan back, I think we might be able to sign him with it coming into effect July 1st

Quite worrying if our main priority is just a striker but then again this is Sky Sports
Yeah honestly that was my biggest take away from that.

Whilst I understand we obviously need more reliable depth there, we have major issues with our chance creation especially against low block teams. Our technical level is just so so limited up top it’s painful. That is not going to improve with another striker.

By all means buy or loan a CF but we have to get another more dynamic attacker alongside that. We really can’t pin our hopes on 17 year old Moore, Odobert who’s missed most of the season and may look a shadow of his former self for the remainder and Yang who is likely very far from being remotely ready for the PL.

A striker is absolutely priority as our current options aren’t good enough. One of our failings this year is the inability to hold the ball in the final third to relieve pressure on midfield and defence. We need a cute, clever, composed striker who finds time, space and can retain the ball under pressure.

I see your point, but isn’t that what £65mil solanke is supposed to provide!

You know one type of Forward I would love to have would be a young Kanoute or Berbatov. Silky number nines who could help help create.
Kanoute was class and underrated he would do well in thr prem now.

I do wonder if this is exactly what we're doing. Perhaps the thinking in the wide positions is that we are well stocked with these young players Moore, Odobert and Yang that we don't want to block their growth for next season.

So many of our recent purchases are part of a long-term vision, bringing in the next generation of top talent like Bergvall and Gray who probably weren't expecting to play as much as they have done so soon. The club don't seem to want to buy players at their peak like Solanke (for high transfer fees and wages), but instead just those young cheaper talents between 18 and 21 who will be blooded slowly as we transition out the older generation, and grow in asset value.

This strategy is all well and good when you've been doing it in cycles consistently for 5 or more years, and the young players we bought 5 years ago are now at their peak, however in the interim we need experienced players to come into the starting 11 right now.
