Having next to no knowledge or experience of this I was surprised to read recently that even after having it removed one can suffer quite badly for the rest of their lives. Assumed naively that removing it would solve the problem.

I thought it is a relatively simple surgery and it shouldn't matter if one has it out as it's supposed to be of little use. Mind I'm almost 73 and may still hold ideas half a century old.

Mine developed into gangrenous appendicitis with abscesses and pus, three weeks in hospital, the first week they just tested for everything apart from the suspected appendicitis.

Ended up with a laparotomy, cut from pubic bone to belly button, 60 staples in gut.

Got adhesions and hernias from the op, lost my stomach wall muscles too. Three years of agony.

Had another correction operation called a Swiss cheese hernia repair which involved inserting (by keyhole surgery) an A4 sized sheet of ptfe covered mesh to provide me with a stomach lining.

This mesh op is also used to perform vaginal repairs for women and there are masses of women out there suffering because of this invasive stuff inside them. Me - glad to be alive,
some days good -some days bad, psychologically a nightmare, was scared of being out in crowds for years.

On the other hand my Mrs has hers done as a teenager, in and out no problem.

Sorry to hear that. Had a double hernia repair myself a few years ago and still get pain on and off.

First post says end of June. As I fully believe our medical team is on schedule he should be back in just a bit less than 12 months.
