For a January signing, players on short contracts, players with release clauses and players not fitting their current club are the most common.

Top possibly available players with contracts expiring in 2026:

Mbeumo, Guehi, Ait Nouri, Mosquera and Ruben Neves.

Not really too sure on the other 2 categories.

No idea if the above could be available to us or if their clubs are willing to sell before their price drops in the summer and beyond. But I'd like us to put in a big bid for Mbeumo.
Did you apply the Daniel levy bargain bin filter when searching them?

Right now we need bodies just to relieve the stress. Think we should be all out for a decent holding mid.

We should be focused on Europa - where we have room to make one more addition to the squad - after Kinsky and Spence.

We have bodies who can play the holding midfield role - we need help in the attacking 3rd. That would give us the best return for our investment.

Did you ignore the high fees we paid for Richarlison, Solanke and Gray?

If the wages aren’t too high then we do sometimes pay the transfer fee.

Some great suggestions in this thread. I'd be hoping for something like the below but with so little noise and it being the 21st already I'm not sure if anything will happen. Hopefully the window will explode in activity in the final week and we'll be one of the busiest.

RW/ST - Love the Delap and Dibling links, even if one had to be loaned back until summer. I also have a strong suspicion that Mbeumo is available at the right price this window, despite Frank's recent comments.

DM - Douglas Luiz is the only link I've seen. Could be a position we could look for experience in. Probably a big focus in the summer.

LB/CB - I think we should compete with Utd for Dorgu, but as mentioned elsewhere I like the idea of bringing Walker-Peters back as a rare club-trained player who could slot into the Europa knockout squad without replacing anyone. Happy for us to be looking at hybrids like Hancko, Hincapie or Itakura too as this helps with squad management. Dream choice is Kerkez but that would be one for summer and likely for bigger fish!

CB - Obviously we have Vuskovic coming in the summer who looks an absurd talent. I like the idea of an experienced campaigner like Skriniar on a short-term deal to impart some leadership amongst the squad. Another name floated that I like is Tomori who is apparently available this window and certainly has the recovery pace required.

Would love Mbeumo here, he can have 0 goals and assists in a match but he puts opposing FB in trouble constantly, leaves plenty of room for others. Baturina as competition for Maddison (replacement really).

JANUARY WINDOW

Doulas Luiz
Jorrel Hato
Tyler Dibling

Add Kinsky, Luiz, and Spence to Europa League squad as Spence can play LB/RB/CB. Rest VDV in the PL once we’re safe and use Hato and Davies as LCB/LB cover. I want to win the Europa league and with United and Roma our main competitors there’s no reason we can’t.

I’d look at replacing Dragusin with Tomori in the summer, he’s far quicker and far better on the ball. As long as we have VDV we will be playing a high line to suit his strengths anyway, so I really see no place long term for Dragusin as an important squad player. We can deal with replacing Romero if/when he goes. Also try to sign Delap to replace Richarlison in the summer. No way Ipswich part with him this window while they still have hope of staying up.

Would leave us with-

GK- Vicario/Kinsky/Austin
RB- Spence/Porro
CB- Romero/Tomori/VDV/Hato
LB- Udogie/Hato
DM- Luiz/Gray
CM- Bentancur/Bergvall
CAM- Kulusevski/Moore
RW- Dibling/Johnson
ST- Solanke/Delap
LW- Son/Odobert/Yang

Can we have two threads, one for vaguely realistic posts and one for fever dreams. 😀

I’d be surprised (and delighted) if we bring in two more players in Jan, writing a list of 6 is just pointless (unless you are saying any two of these 6 or something similar).

I did the analysis last year, and no big 6 team have brought in more than 2 players in one January window outside of Chelsea going insane in Jan 23 in the last 5 years. So if you’re happy with us forking out €200m for a Fernandez and a Mudryk then of course you can get deals done, people will accept way way over the odds. But otherwise it’s just not realistic.

id love a forward and either a versatile defender or a DM. Get 2 more and I’ll be thrilled

Agree.

Scour the market enough and you might find available quality in the position you need like we did with Kulusevski and Bentancur. But it's not always so readily available.

If we can't find players of this ilk for a fair price, I'd be happy with one good solid signing that we pay a high, though not extortionate fee for.

Really wanted Ederson from Atalanta in summer but won’t happen now with them going for the title. Douglas Luiz on loan

Bakayoko said he won't go to midtable teams.

Assuming we're putting Spence and Kinsky in the Europa squad, that gives us one more player we can register as a replacement - that needs to be a senior player who can go from day one.

We need a left back and a right winger, one of whom should go into the Europa squad. On balance, I think the left back is more important.

I'm assuming we're selling no-one, so Richarlison is staying to be our Solanke alternative, but if the chance really is there (which I doubt) to get Delap we should be all over that too.

Don’t think dorgu or hato are as adept as people are making out. They both have quite big weaknesses to their games and couldn’t be relying upon to hit the ground running. Tbh I think tomori is the option I’d go with as either he or vdv could also slide across into lb if needed.
Delap and ibling would be great but I just can’t see Ipswich selling as they could still stay up. Sell him and they go down though (especially if to us). Also if there’s any chance we are keen, then chelsea will get a call and rightly he’d go there because they’re more organised and try to win. They need a 9 and he’s it.
Better chance at getting cunha which wouldn’t be the worst option. He has looked like their best player by a distance this season and could score goals for us. Longer term I think he’d be a LW more than a 9 but would enable us to wait for Jonathan David (or even vlahovic) in the summer.
Finally I’m getting keener on the idea of rayan cherki. He’s available and just has an X factor to his play.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see a deal with juve for David luiz as we seem to be in good trading terms with them but not sure it’s essential without bombing players out of our squad. I’d also just be tempted to keep playing bergvall and gray in the midfield tbh

TL/DR
Tomori
Cunha
Dibling
cherki
