Can't see anyway round this one. No one will pay £15 mil for the lad.

Whilst he is a Spurs asset, the folks ahead of him are performing well enough to keep him on the bench.

We can't drop Lamela for Townsend just yet.

More cup matches?

Sad if true. He may come good at another club. He may improve as he gets older too. I think this was the case with Routledge? Such an exciting player - potentially. And I guess 'potentially' is the issue.

the season Bale left and he started playing well apart from scoring goals, I had quite high hopes for this lad. he hasn't produced when given his opportunities.

he loses the ball too easily, and for someone with pace he doesn't track back enough. to get in the 1st team you got to put extra effort on the training field, and when getting the chance needs to produce. hasn't produced in any game I've seen so far this season

Wouldn't expect him to be over the moon about it.
He has really fallen down the pecking order recently.

Expert reporting.

Full of quotes about him being frustrated

No quotes doesn't mean bad reporting, it could mean someone in the know (I.e townsend's agent) has gone off the record to a broadsheet to get it out there. Happens all the time. Remember Gareth Bale in 2013? Same paper. No quotes, but the story came from a great source: player's agent.

He has not improved at all. Townsend development has all but ground to a halt. There doesn't seem to be a willingness to improve his game in order to be a better player.

Townsend offers very little going forward & his presence seems to just frustrate the hell out of me. There's nothing incisive, dynamic or exciting about his attacking play & his retention of the ball is poor. I hope he is allowed to leave & he can rebuild his career elsewhere.

He should look on the brightside - he'll walk straight into the starting eleven at <insert Sherwoods next club here>

He's frustrated and he's frustrating to watch generally.

Sell him.

No quotes, IMHO, means it is just click bait for their website, hoping for more revenue from the advertisers.

Would you really want a player in the squad who was happy to remain on the bench? I certainly wouldn't we may learn something from Thursday's team selection.

I would prefer him to Lamela tbh. Although I would want him playing on the left.

Can't understand why he isn't given a chance. It's probably too late now. He will try too hard and get the boo boys on his back and lose confidence.

Such a shame our 'fans' never saw his undisputed potential. I guess we're just lucky to have so many fans with more knowledge than the England manager.

My 7yr old has more knowledge than Roy Hodgson.

In all seriousness I would think most fans can see the potential; unfortunately, he has never progressed thiis potential into anything more.

Due to personel and injury reasons he's never been given an extended run.

In regard to the fans I remember once sitting in the North stand and listening to the bile spouting from the stands against him. It was laughable if it wasn't so shocking. I'm not counting the whole stadium mind.

I got the whole hatred of the whore. That was stadium wide. And that never bothered me but to do it to one of Our own... A Spurs fan trying his best... It sickened me to the extant I will never sit in that poisonous stand again. Even with a free ticket. Cannot wait till its torn down actually.

Townsend will be a quality prem player. He may even be a successful England international yet it seems the majority on here want him gone.

Imo Townsend is as good if not better prospect than Lamela.

I don't want players outside the first team to be happy about it, unless they're youth team players. He should want to play and he should be frustrated that he's not getting picked. The question for him is how he reacts, he can knuckle down and out do the others in training so he earns his chance or he can sulk and move to a lesser team. Come off the bench and get winning goals against Anderlecht and the scum and you'll never be dropped again.
