Son is a superstar for South Korea and their captain. Obviously it’s important for them that he’s a part of their setup.

At the same time: he’s our biggest star and our captain too.

For smaller nations, the big players are even more important. It is no crisis for England if Harry Kane or Jude Bellingham rest a game or two. For SK, Son is crucial. Don’t think Arteta is overjoyed that Ødegaard was injured while playing for Norway some months back. Neither is the national coach: without him, the national side is more crap than usual.

The ever ongoing battle between club and country on the use of players. As long as both FIFA and the continental federations keep on piling up more and more fixtures, the players will always be caught in the middle.
