I get where you are coming from - but respectfully disagree. He made 9 changes, he fielded and inexperienced team who never play with one another - he took an unnecessary risk and he almost shot himself in the foot. It's not the first time he has done this and it has NEVER worked. EVER, NEVER EVER - and that is what is so frustrating.
Fine - you want to rest some players - The Full Backs are interchangeable. Bar that change one or two, like for like - but CV and Wimmer as your newbie CB pairing with Vorm behind them. Onomah (Bambi on ice) out of position etc etc - he took the gamble and disrespected Wycombe - believing that our second string, who never play together, would simply win the game. It was awful and a mistake that has been repeated 3 seasons on the trot - all for that coveted CLge spot that we screwed up this season.
Change 4 players - fine. But to risk it all to protect the first team in its entirety and almost get knocked out by a 4th tier team at HOME - was unbearable to watch and is still unbearable to swallow.
We win 4 more games we win the cup - surely that's worth going for?!?! A TROPHY M'Lord please - our current staring X1 should be biting at the bit to want to win a trophy, they've just had a week off in Spain!
Make trophy winning a habit and a desire for the starting X1.
Oh and play the entire second string forever in the Europa League. (worst trophy ever invented).
We win the FA cup this season and a top 4 finish - would be a brilliant result.

But we won didn't we?

A lot of comments on how poch played a side he expected to win and then a lot of criticism...

We won.

He expected that side to win, and they did.

Whats wrong?

The Wycombe manager looks like a right prick with his long hair curtains and his shirt buttons undone like some pale lethario

Is it just me or were both Sons goals going wide? :cautious:

Not that I'm taking anything away from him. Still underrated by too many

CCV looked like Caulker MKII...

Minus the Joe Lewis daughter fucking (afaik :cautious:)

To be fair to him he was being rugby tackled by that lump up front every time the ball went near them. Akinfenwa's treated far more experienced Premier League defenders like rag dolls before and this was only Cameron's what, fourth game for the first team? He won't come up against a player like that again in his career, as long as he learns from it he'll be fine.

Disagree. This was Wycombe. However amazing they would play, our serving string should have been able to beat them far more readily than we did.

The EL comes with the prize of a CL place! Winning it would rate far higher than winning the FA Cup even without that.

We're fighting to win the league. At worst, to finish above at least 2 of Liverpool, Arsenal, ManU and ManCity.

We need all our first team well rested and not having any knocks or niggles.

We only made two changes from the team that beat Villa in the last round three weeks ago. It's not disrespectful to Wycombe to think that a team with over 160 senior international caps between them should be able to beat a team two divisions below the team they comfortably beat in the last round.

It was 'only Wycombe Wanderers'. We 'only played our reserves'. For a lot of the game we 'only had 10 men'. It was only my second game in the West Stand. Ticket was only £20. Sat next to us was only Paul Whitehouse. Sat a few rows in front of us was only our Dear Leader, Daniel Levy. To our right, only bloody Michael McIntyre (with Lucas! and Oscar!). Paid a lot more to sit a lot further away from him at Wembley Arena. Bloke in front of us was only Claude Littner. Not bothered. 'Only Wycombe' deserved a draw at the very least. They were superb, as was the Legend Akinfenwa. Surely game of the day. And one of my lasting memories of White Hart Lane. When you thought you'd seen it all. Can we stay at White Hart Lane forever? If only.

I'd generally pay more to be further away from Michael McIntyre.

Injuries forced his hand a bit. It was a risky move to start Wimmer and CCV together - needed an experienced head back there. But, really, this squad was talented enough to get the win today. At some point its on the players to execute. Only a handful turned up today.

Just seen Son's interview, which along with the Winks one was quite telling. It sounds like the team were taking the game for granted in the first half especially when Son commented that they needed to be professional against all teams (or words to that effect). Winks said they were embarrassed at half time. This reeks of the Newcastle game at the end of last season, and i hope that Poch can keep them focused from hereon in.

Bad day at the office, and every team has them but i would suggest that we have used up all our get out of jail cards for the rest of the season. Onward and upwards!

COYS!

HMS was given a lot of stick on here during this game and also in other matches recently.

For me he continuously comes up with goals from very amazing angles, runs around like a whirling dervish and creates a lot of confusion in all areas, especially later in games.

Love the guy immensely.

No they weren't!

I clearly remember when people were writing him off, you're speaking shit.

You're the same person who was saying that the BS Lamela article from the Mirror was true i.e. You have no idea what you're talking about.

just watched a replay as I spent the day traveling to watch my son's match in Oklahoma City. We are very lucky indeed but then the whole match was crazy. I will take luck when it comes any time.

Agreed, but he can't lead the line, he needs another striker in front of him just so he has a bit more space to work with. He doesn't have the physicality to play the role we needed in the first half. but what he did well was to play on the shoulders of the centre backs and try to get into a long ball from Dier. Which work a couple of times.

Really hope he works on his physical strength and aerial ability, he needs to have a bit more presence in the box. But over all, he is someone I love coming on in the 2nd half, just to give u that goal scoring threat.

Their keeper was appalling throughout

I thot the young goalkeeper had a good game. Yeah he made a mistake with a bad clearance that lead to a goal had a couple of nervy moments. But he saved 2 great chances for us. One from Son the first half and Jassen's header. Plus he got darn close to stopping the penalty. Even thou he is a Chelsea player. He does look like a decent prospect.

I think we went too inexperience, but at the end of the day, we had reeforcements on the bench to turn the game around. So the gambled worked.

Can I just ask.... Is the Wycombe players professional full time footballers? Or part time like that Astra team with a policeman and bus driver or something.

Glad I went to this game now having only got hold of a ticket yesterday. I failed in my attempt for a ticket for Everton so decided to go to this one instead. Whether it will be my last game at WHL or not it will at least be a much more memorable one than the last one I went to against West Brom last season. I can only say this was a great match having won it at the end though. For sheer entertainment it was excellent even if i was frustrated with our performance overall.

First half in particular we were far too casual. I think our players still had their heads in Barcelona. Fair play to Wycombe though because they were in our faces from the start. They hit the bar early on which was an early wake up call that we were in a game today. It was clear that one team started off thinking it would be a stroll in the park and another team playing the games of their lives. They deserved to lead at half time. I didn't think the penalty was correct but when you dive in like that it gives the ref the decision to make.

Second half we were better. We created decent chances but our finishing was not good. However Wycombe still looked dangerous and we couldn't handle their physicality particularly in the air. Once we got a foot hold in the game they started making tactical fouls. It was frustrating but you can't blame them. They played the way they had too, unsettle us and rough us up at every opportunity. Our quality saved us in the end though and what late drama it was.

This is definitely one I look forward to seeing the highlights for. A FA Cup classic and proof that the FA Cup can still show signs of magic. I wish I could have watched it knowing we were going to win because it would have been much more exciting in the moment. I couldn't bring myself to celebrate the 2 equalisers. Sure I pumped my fist and clapped but I wasn't jumping around singing. We shouldn't have even been in that position. Once the winner went in I was happy but more relieved than anything. Yet now that it's over I'm glad it was a 4-3 thriller rather than a comfortable 3-0 stroll.

If this is the last game I watch at the Lane then at least it was an exciting one to watch.

Agree with all that - this was possibly my last game at WHL and my daughter's first,
For so many reasons it was an appropriate send off and introduction to Spurs. Sure, it should never have been that close - but it made it a great game - like you say, it's better winning like that than a 5-0 schooling.

Though if we can pull out a schooling for the last WHL NLD I won't be complaining...

Not an excuse but Roger East showed why he shouldn't be a Prem ref.

Allowing the wrestling that happened, missing blatant handballs, and giving penalties from 40 yards away.

That is without mentioning the rugby tackles and shirt pulls. If each of the cynical and blatant fouls had of been correctly punished, then WW would have ended the game with 8 men.
