What we really want is a benefactor with countless billions that is prepared to spend them freely on players without any significant say in how they are invested and no expectation of a return. And scrupulous morals. And to be young, energetic lifelong Spurs fan.

This needn’t be that difficult.

Even then some on here would find something to moan about.

And we have obviously got very scared by having a competitive wage bill carrying experienced internationals, and pivoted hard away from that high. We've slashed the wage bill in the last 2 years, getting rid of 7 of the top 8 earners--Kane, Perisic, Lloris, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Lo Celso and Dier, only Son remains on big money--and they've been replaced by players on much lower wages. Solanke is apparently on 100K, Johnson on 70K, VDV 50K. Even Romero is yet to upgrade his contract since arriving from Italy, and absolute crickets on that, the expectation that we cash in on him this summer. I'd be surprised if our wage bill for this season is higher than 7th or 8th largest in the league.

So the trend of where we're going is clearly to a much younger squad on lower wages without carrying the expensive burden of established star players.

It's just hearsay that the wage bill has been reduced, how much are Richarlison, Bissouma, Bentacur, Kulusevski, Porro, Maddison, Vicario on?, they are all experienced internationals and replaced some of the players sold, are all these players on low wages as well? Footballers contracts are more then just a basic wage they are also heavily incentivised with individual and team bonuses.

To be fair, most of these were players with tenure that had been given new contracts due to loyalty/performance with pay bumps, not the salaries that they were employed on, so it's a given that the wage bill would hopefully go down and would be the same situation in any club.

I'm not sure that saving salary outlay by replacing Lloris , Sanchez and Dier with Vicario, VdV and Dragusin is a bad thing unless you're just looking to put a boot in to be honest.

After the hotel is done what more significant value could be added to the club/its holdings aside from a marked uptick in footballing performance?

In other words, aside from a possible minority stake in the immediate future, who TF would have the money or even want to buy us at this point?

The TV money seems for now to continue to grow but hardly huge sums on a company which will cost you billions to buy and even that assumes ever increasing fees forever more.

We might not just be stuck with ENIC but them with us too.

You did not mention inferior quality, We finished 8th in 2022/2023 with those players with the 5th highest wage bill in the league. Arsenal finished second with the 6th highest. Liverpool finished 5th with the third highest, Chelsea finished 12th with the second highest and Man Utd finished 3rd with the 4th highest. Brighton finished 6th with the 4th lowest and look to be doing even better this season.

We finished 5th last season without them and with a speculative lower wage bill then in 2022/2023.

Only Manchester City wages have been relative to their league position over the last few seasons and guess what, that looks like it's going to change this season as well. Modern Premier League Football has started to catch on that top class Scouting and Coaching has a far bigger impact then spending.

Apart from Kane, none of those players where first team regulars anymore, Hojbjerg was behind Bissouma, Bentacur and Sarr, Dier and Sanchez replaced with Dragusin and if needed with Davies and several young promising defenders and Lloris with Vicario. The potential of our squad is better with their replacements. Kane I agree with to a certain degree but Solanke fits better with Postecoglou, our pressing would be lethargic with Kane. Are we now complaining we have replaced our deadwood with better players or players with far greater potential because they might be on lower wages?

If anybody wants to provide solid evidence that our wage bill has been reduced because of our transfer business over the last two seasons, then please feel free to do so. Otherwise it's just speculation from people with their own biases.

We finished 5th last season as we didn't have Europe and therefore got away with not having a deep squad. Case in point selling Kane and not replacing him till this summer.

Whilst the finances for last season won't come out till next year, the wage bill will have gone down from £251m as we sold Kane, Winks, Sanchez, let Dier, Lloris and Perisic go for free and replaced them with Johnson, Maddison, VDV and Dragusin. I would guess that Johnson and Maddisons combined salary doesn't match what Kane earned and Dier, Lloris and Perisic were on over 100k a week and I'm sure Dragusin and VDV are not. To your point though the quality in defence has increased but the attack got worse. Ange would have adapted his press for Kane and his finishing and play making is world class.

This summer we got rid of Ndombele, Lo Celso, Hojberg, Sessengon, Rodon, Emerson Royal, Skipp and Gil most likely and replaced them with Solanke, Gray, Odobert and Bergvall. We know Ndombele was on big money and would be sure that Lo Celso and Hojberg were also getting a good wage. If we say the wages of Gray, Odobert and Bergvall are equal to Sessengon, Rodon, Emerson Royal, Gil and Skipp (although I think they would be less). Then would think Lo Celso and Solanke are on similar wages so we have decreased our wage bill again with Hojberg and Ndombeles wages off the book.

Yes we replaced some deadwood in Holberg, Skipp and Gil with young potential in Gray, Bervall and Odobert. We didn't replace Lo celso, we moved Kulusevski instead and then didn't buy a rw and didn't replace sessengon and get a back up LB. The 2 positions we needed players in. We also bought Kane's replacement a year later.

So yeah our wage bill for 2024/2025 will be closer to £200m and Arsenals will be over £300m as they've bought Rice, Merino, Timber, Calafiori and Havertz and given new contracts to Saliba, Saka, Odegaard and Martinelli. Our wages will be £100-200m a year less then our big 6 rivals.
