It’s not the final result obviously but we look to have dropped around £30m so about 7th highest wages in the league right now.
And that includes our players that are loaned out, which is PEH Solomon and Gil - so that's another £10m+ per year right there. Also we're paying Werner a massively inflated wedge (joint 3rd highest earner) because he's on loan. Take his number off and suddenly we're in proper mid-table spend territory.

We're currently spending like a 5th-8th placed team, so last seasons finish of 5th is back on what we can expect at the top end.

It is possible to crack top 4, and even be a title contender at around £130-150m wages spend, as Liverpool have shown. So realistically we need to sign 2-3 players in January on £150k+ per week wages. Which actually aligns with what we're seeing on the pitch.

LB - Someone like Estupian would want wages of around £100k per week and cost us around £45m in transfer fee.
CB - Someone like Guehi would want wages of around £100-120k per week and cost us around £50m in transfer fee.
MF - Someone like Palacios would want wages of around £120-150k per week and cost us around £65m in transfer fee.

Then in the summer we replace Werner with another £165k ish per week player, but this time someone that also comes with a big price tag to sign, like Bakayoko.

Suddenly we're a GK rotation player away from looking like a pretty serious top 4 team.

I think the point for many of us is regardless of why they cut the wage bill or need investment that the game changing stadium has changed little for our team.

We’re still between fifth and eighth in the pecking order, still unable to compete for top players and still having the same debates we were over a decade ago.

We now share a home with the nfl and numerous other stuff that have nothing to do with Tottenham Hotspur and we do it on the basis that we can compete but it turns out we can’t.

I’aware that the club in theory is set up fantastically for the future, I’m aware off the pitch were the best run club in the world but if that’s what you’re going to point out in reply to the previous two paragraphs I’d like to point out that without a successful football team none of that matters a bit to most of us. I support a football club, not an entertainment company, not an investment firm or share price.

All I want is a successful football team and after 20 plus years it’s obvious to me and many that this current ownership have that priority way down their list .

So when we talk about the future I am now of the opinion that it isn’t rosey at all. Should wages drop then levy will simply drop ours accordingly, should he sell it will be to either a dodgy state or another investment firm/bank. Football fans don’t have five billion quid and the rest burning a hole in their pocket and seeing as we seem to be a football club attached to an entertainment venue that’s the sort of money we would need to see offered to get this lot out.

I believe he wants extra investment to build extra buildings on Tottenham high road, and he knows if he says it out loud that the team has to wait for more property then even our placid fan base would go mad.

The only saving grace is that he wants the champions league money so we will always hover around that top six

When will the penny drop with u? We will never compete with a bank roller… Klopp new it I know it u think we can honestly compete without Suadi money? U honestly believe we can? Football is no longer a sport it’s simply a bussiness. All I can say is live with it, enjoy it, or stop watching it. It been like this since the oligarch took over the chavs. I don’t get the ball ache tbh. Il always love spurs, glory? Would be nice but we need to be realistic. We will not compete while nations own football clubs.

Well I disagree with all of that.

I love Tottenham Hotspur, I can’t just turn that off. I did before I heard the name daniel levy or enic and I will when they’re gone.

It doesn’t affect my life in anyway whatsoever. I vent /debate on here and to friends and family . Its escapism and sometimes venting about first world problems is fun escapism.

Nobody expects them to compete with city or Newcastle and the football rulemakers are making the Saudis life hard in that respect. It’s such a lazy comment to make. It used to be we will do a Leeds.

I remember jack walker, I remember Newcastle splashing the cash like mad. There have always been disrupters and yeah city and Chelsea have taken it to another level but they can’t /don’t sign every player in the world no matter how hard Chelsea try and just speaking about them and failing to acknowledge the stuff we can control is disingenuous.

There has been a lot of "reading between the lines" I think with the wage bill this summer. The wage bill is a snapshot of our current crop of players, and doesn't have to imply a shift in transfer policy.

In our current team, would you rather see Lloris or Vic? Sanchez or VDV? Hojbjerg or Gray? GLC or Bergvall? My guess would be you prefer the second player in each instance... all of whom will be on lower wages than the first named player. So our wage bill can be a symptom of our recruitment rather than the focus of it.

The board has been pretty consistent in terms of spending earnings on the team over a long time frame I believe. Bringing in investment will be as much about bringing in knowledge/experience/contacts as any capital. If somebody is invested for £500m odd they are going to be bringing new commercial opportunities (e.g. extra sponsorship) which increases revenues that in turn get spent on the squad.

I don't believe that somebody investing the kind of money we would be looking at is doing so just to have a spending spree. It will be a very involved partnership with all sorts of nooks and crannies.
I don't think it's as simple as that regarding signings. Like I'd take peak Lloris over younger Vicario all day long. We just don't spend the money on peak players. We sign them young and then increase their wage if they hit that level later down the road. That saves them money on the transfer fee required to sign the players already at that level. It's a sensible model from their perspective but will always leave us short of the top. Unless stars align and we get a generation of talent all break out. Chances of a Modric, Bale and Kane at the same time are limited though. Even then they still fall short of wages the top players want and get at the top clubs so would soon demand more as their contract runs down. I just can't see why Enic would give up any share in the club unless they're struggling to keep up with the financial demands we need to remain competitive. I don't think many would expect a spending spree but more a natural progression of signing young players and gradually increasing the wages over time as they develop into top players. So more of a gradual process which maybe Enic is struggling to keep up with alone. Like maybe they are OK with this current model but not the increased wages down the road and the continued summer spending we've been doing. Totally guessing mind.

I know you do, we all do if this is how we spend our time but financially now city and maybe united are the only ones we can’t compete with. Our squad and results absolutely don’t reflect that.

Why can't compete with Liverpool or Arsenal? Why can't have we have similar success to them?
Have they really competed? Klopp was special, il give u that, for some reason we fell we have a right to succeed. Villa and Evertorn are arguably bigger clubs than us. We blame levy for every thing, we had bigger problems before levy, it day Sugar was the the main point.

Weren't we ahead of Arsenal not too long ago? For the last 5 years, our revenue has been higher than theirs. So it doesn't seem to be because they make more money than us?

Yes Liverpool won the league and the champions league in the last five years whilst Arsenal ran City extremely close last year whilst having won significantly more trophies than we have recently.

And if we can't compete for the league and champions league with clubs that are owned by nation states (which I have some sympathy for), why have we prioritised the league and champions league over the domestic cups or the EL/ECL?

I would counter this by asking when was the last time ENIC took a dividend from the club?

Also, match receipts represent just 21% of total revenue. Its a pretty small pot, with very limited room for growth.
That's why I said etc because there's a lot more to it than tickets. Enic makes their fair share from the club and Levy is the highest paid chairman. They wouldn't be here if they wasn't making money off us.

Yeah but it’s not gonna happen overnight.
