Tottenham Hotspur will not sell the book of their former goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at their megastore despite it being aimed at their supporters The Frenchman’s book, Earning My Spurs, will be published and released on November 7, highlighting the 12 years he spent with the North London club.

However, Tottenham only stock titles that are produced by the club’s official publisher so they can vet their contents, and Lloris is using another publisher.

Yet another example of Levy’s emphasis on commercialism over fans wishes, the treatment of staff, players and the club good name. And common decency tbh.

If this is the now and future of the Tottenham way, I don’t like it.

It’s Disney-washing and streamlining everything until all traces of soul and heart is gone.

My son sent me these a little while ago, I've removed his supporting comments!

Yeah but maybe don’t dislike mawspurs post as he’s just sharing the news, it’s not his opinion… 😉

Makes sense, why would the club have a book for sale that they don't get a % gain from? Unless the publisher of the book makes a deal with the club, it will never happen. Can we please stop trying to make the club look bad everyday

I don’t think we have to try that hard to be honest lol.

See also David Pleat treatment.

I don't believe that there's somebody at the club sitting there making these decisions to fuck over ex-pros on purpose and I'd be amazed if the situation was different at other clubs and their deals with their own partners. If that's not the case and they have an arrangement with theirs that leaves scope for it, then good for them! And hopefully we will be canny enough given that these issues have now arisen to include clauses in future publishing deals that allow us to support ex players and otherwise as we wish (as we demonstrably have done in other areas for many years, despite the narrative going around at the moment with the Pleat situation).

If I asked to run a charity bake sale out of the restaurant at my employer's HQ, I would expect a similar response to what Pleat received. There is a contract in place with the catering supplier and my employer can't breach that just because I ask nicely or they wish to show gratitude for my past services.

If anyone views this situation with Lloris / Pleat and the club's publisher (for which there will be a legally binding contract) as poor treatment by the club, they clearly don't understand how contractual agreements work.

Conversely, not giving Pleat a seat / guaranteed ticket for home games is a decision that was fully within the club's control. Despite his long service and significant contributions over the years, unlike Bob Wilson, Pleat reportedly left his respective club under a dark cloud...perhaps this is a factor in how differently they are being treated.

Thinking on this and I'm not sure I agree...

I agree that ex spurs associated spurs players should be supported or helped in times of need, but this is not exactly what Pleat is asking for.

Firstly the comment about Arsenal (our rivals) is way out of line. An absoloute childish response imo.

About his book, there are legitimate legal reasons for not putting the book in the shop, so that's fair enough.

As for the ticket, they've said they'd make an effort but cannot guarantee it, but I'm sure if he put in a request with enough time spurs would give it to him. The big question is where do we draw the line?

If Pascal Chimbonda (random ex spurs) comes along, do we give a ticket to him? To his family? We should certainly be making an effort but just giving everyone ex spurs a free ticket is just asking for trouble.

This has been overblown by Pleat and his stupid comments. He has been a faithful servant to the club and was paid accordingly, we shouldn't be bending over backwards for him.

Think of any company you've worked for, would this sort of stuff be accepted? Help them yes, support them (where possible) and even offer them the opportunity to get tickets (where possible) but let's not get carried away.

For me this article doesn't reflect badly on THFC but badly on David Pleat... an spurs ex manager and servant of the club using the words " arsenal are class" is not a good way to endear himself to anyone. Infact entitled is the word I'd use.

Fully agree! Its easy to make first exception and what should happen with others like Robbie Keane? Ledley King? its hard to set up honest rules in this circumstances.

The quote regarding Arsenal is a very very fair one. People just don't like the truth when it hurts something they love. You think he shouldn't say something like that because he owes us his loyalty, but I can tell you 100%, loyalty and respect for long term senior employee's is not something shown by the club, and hasn't been for years.

Ex players and staff (unless they still work for the club) regardless of how long they worked for the club really struggle to get tickets and are in quite a few cases told even if they are lucky enough to get tickets, they have to pay. I genuinely don't know of any other club that does this to long serving ex senior staff members and players. For instance he'd walk back into Kenilworth Road any time he liked with a fanfare despite working for Luton for a much much shorter time.

Its such a shame we do this.
I know he was paid reasonably well in the period he was with us and there are many that would argue the case of whether he deserves it or not.
However, my own personal opinion is that loyalty should matter and making gestures of good will breed a culture of loyalty and more people feeling a sense of belonging to something of a community rather than just being a number.
I am a massive believer in making people who deserve it feel valued, so much so that I am leaving a job I never thought I would leave tomorrow due to having my proposals dismissed by a director with a very blunt fuck you email.
As it turns out, I am going to another company for more money for half the work. (in theory)
My current company have made me an offer to stay on more money but it was never about the money and although my boss gets it, I dont think the director does.

The thumbs down is a neutral reaction. I don´t dislike Mawspurs as a person - I dislike the news itself.

These times ...

We´re more concerned about policing eachother´s post here than we are of the lack of decency by our own club.

That doesn´t make any sense. Everytime any shop takes in goods to sell, they will get a percentage of the sales they do of those goods.

I see your points, mate. There´s always two sides (or more) to a debate. I don´t think you´ve convinced me to do a full U-turn on my stand, but I think you make very valid points which deserves credit.
