I don't think it's any great coincidence that our more successful managerial appointments over the years (Venables, Francis, Graham, Redknapp etc) were all guys with proven experience in the same league.

Pochettino get's my vote, as did Rodgers some time ago when it was muted Redknapp was leaving. Martinez wasn't on my radar though, but what a job he's done.

We are in a mess, it's a fairly unattractive job these days given our managerial churn. I think it has to be a punt on the "next big thing" and to my mind, the way he has Southampton playing Pochettino would be a calculated risk IMO.

Pochettino is the most realistic option available to us. Everyone seems to think that we're entitled to some coach with 'pedigree' but lets be honest, what have we achieved recently that would really attract such a coach to the Lane? The top coaches go to the top clubs or clubs that they can see themselves realistically achieving something with.
We, with our recent illustrious record of managers and footballing achievement, cannot offer either of those things. As fans we'd do well to remember that we've only been in the CL once since its inception and consequently have no divine right to expect a manager with CL pedigree to rush to take over.
The more I think about it, the more I think Pochettino would fit in with us. He's worked under a demanding chairman before, is willing to promote the youth, has PL experience and most importantly has proven that he can make the best with what he has. As a selling club that's really as good as we're going to get. And who's to say he won't be successful with us? Harry Redknapp wasn't exactly a tactical genius but did well enough to get us in the CL and secure finishes of 4th 5th and 4th (not to mention orchestrating serious damage control following his take over). Let's not overestimate just where we stand and be realistic for a change shall we?
He'll follow Nicola Cortese to Italy. I like the way Soton play, but I wonder whether the Spurs job would be too big for him. I doubt he would come, but Benitez has the requisite gravitas, coaching ability and tactical nous to take us forward.

If we got Poch maybe we would have a good chance of getting Lallana! I love midfielders who can pass in and around the box and shoot. We don't have enough. I'll give you Erikson, who else?
Not to mention the possibility of bringing out the best in fellow Argentine Lamela. With how poorly he's been handled this season, it would be like having a brand new signing.

Except that his style of football is turgid and knowing us fans, we'd be calling for his head within a month. No thank you. Cortese and Levy are of the same ilk and Pochettino has already expressed his desire to remain in the Prem. The chance that he will be at the reins next season is too big to ignore.

I bet you plenty of top coaches would go to Arsenal, and they always sell their best players.

Klopp seems pretty happy at Dortmund, and their best players always jump ship too.

Top coaches don't go to a club who always sell they're best players.

Top coaches are able to understand there's fuck all that can be done about it when the clubs best players are sulking, moaning, going on strike & refusing to play, to get out of a club.

Tell me 1 single "best player" that our club has sold, under the current owners, who hasn't made it perfectly clear they have no interest in remaining at our club. Also, tell me how exactly you expect our club, you know, little THFC, to keep players from opting to leave us for clubs the size of Real Madrid and Man United.

If things were as you (wrongly) imply, Modric would now be running around in a blue shirt for a West London rival. However, he's not, and we ended up taking some £20million less, to make sure that didn't happen.
