Tottenham are monitoring the situation with Marcus Edwards this summer as they attempt to keep on top of their homegrown issues.

God please no.

If this is the height of our ambition then Ange is wasting his time with us.

I posted something very similar last week FS.

if the ambition of the owners does not match the standards and ambition of Ange then he should just call it a day sooner rather than later.

He is the man that would do it as well!

I think to say it lacks ambition is a little short sighted. We're on the verge of losing a number HG players, and if we move on Solomon, he fills a home grown slot which is a benefit and also fills Solomon's somewhat empty boots. I very much doubt he's being seen as the messiah!

Not sure what the issue is with signing him. 12 months ago most were more than happy when he was linked. HG, Worked well with Porro and a squad upgrade at a decent price. Dont believe for a second he would be it for the wings so let’s see what happens.

From the clubs perspective he does fill a slot and I've said this in other threads.

For my money though, Fuck filling slots! if they need filling then fill them with youth players, and not journeymen players we won't be able to shift in 2 years time.

Do we have a RW in the academy that warrants it? We all know about Moore et al but not heard of one on the opposite flank.

Regardless, the answer isn't to buy a player that just fills a gap.

If a RW is that important then buy one as good as we can get and use the youth to fill out other positions. It always costs us more than it saves us.

I do agree but I guess I see Edwards as a bit more than a journeyman squad filler. I see an ex player who has talent and has been successful in a different country and who COULD be a smart piece of business.

How successful? Normally when we get linked to players from Portugal it's because they are the standouts there. He's been better than average for sure but has Marcus Edwards ever been a truly stand out player in Portugal? Not for my money.

I'm stuck in the middle of these arguments. On one hand, yes I agree, we don't want to buy squad players to fill gaps. But on the other side, we need quality in positions where we don't have a back up especially if the youth player is a drop in quality.

That being said we have Johnston and kulusevski who can play right. So not sure filling out this place with him is the right call. And we seem ok in other areas to promote youth (defence, CM, left wing) so think we need a better high quality player for RW (if able to play LW also, bonus).

Perhaps if we go by the theory that "he fills a home grown slot" we may as well call Crouch to dust off his boots.

Filling slots with players who cannot even get a start at the club they are at is amazingly naïve.

Not when they're replacing a player they're better than who isn't homegrown it's not.
