Did anyone watch the Great British Bake-Off last night? There was a small segment on the 'Tottenham cake' which was pretty interesting. Dates back to the 1800s and were made by Quaker's around the area to be consumed by the community. When we won the FA cup in 1901 these cakes were distributed around the area in celebration. Apparently the club still have links with the cake and have it for important events.

Sorry for my ignorance on this matter but I have never had a Tottenham cake. Are they any good?. Nice to see a bit of Spurs history on the show. Are Mel and Sue Spurs fans?. Mr. Badiel won't be happy but the Chelsea bun was not mentioned. Nice to see we have links to other religious factions too. Hope the link with the Quakers does not offend anyone!

How could that offend anyone? If they're offended by that, then they deserve to be slapped with a large fish.

But yes I saw it too. I've vague memories of having some years ago. It's just a simple sponge with some icing on it.

I saw this, my wife asked if I'd ever eaten one - I haven't. She told me I have to have one on Thursday night before the game.

Yeah, they looked a bit ropey. Simple sponge and pink icing. Only joking about the Quaker link but these days nothing would surprise me.

p.s: I live in Shrewsbury and the 'Shrewsbury bun' is a thing of beauty.

My girlfriend and I had our first two-way conversation about Spurs last night, thanks to this. It lasted about 30 seconds.

Her: "Tottenham were on the Great British Bake Off. Jesus, I can't even escape from hearing about them when you're not here"

Me: "Really?! Who was on it?"

Her: "Something about a Tottenham cake"

*Wiki's Tottenham cake*

Me: "Says here that the club gave them out on the streets after winning the 1901 FA Cup final"

Her: "I want a bunny"

We used to have them as kids, they had desiccated coconut on top of the pink icing too. I used to love them, much nicer than Sticky Buns!!!

I think the club need to crack out a batch to coincide with our impending trophy success this year!. Do we have any Spurs supporting celebrity chef's!

The fact that you are so easily offended offends me. Sorry to use the 'O' word but you are nothing more than an offender yourself. Offended, Suffolk
Whilst it is quite an offensive cake I think we need to turn this into a postitive. We should be chanting 'Spurs Cakes' at the weekend to unite us all!

First introduced to Tottenham Cake in the 60's (thought my Grandad was on a wind-up when he asked if I wanted some).

Must of got it from Dunn's on The Broadway, Crouch End - it was the only bakers we ever went to and they do the best sausage rolls I've ever had!
