This is not a knee jerk. We do not deserve top 4. No team that gets beaten at home by stoke and wolves deserve to play in the CL. You can picture the top 4 sides losing to one such team once in a while but do they ever lost to two in the space of a couple of months?
Villa beat manu at old trafford, yes a weakened manu, and yet we can't even beat their youth and reserve team.
Villa deserve to be in CL more than us. City and pool are the favourites. After this performance, I will be embarass if we actually play in the CL.

Manu lost at Burnley and Chelsea lost at Wigan.
If, and it's a very big if, we get the points and finish fourth then we would deserve it even with today's poor performance and others over the season.
I definately wouldn't be embarrassed more singing from the roof-tops type thing.

Manu and chelski lost away, and do you think it is likely that they will lose to a bottom team again soon? At home for that matter?
Even if we qualify, big if, we will probably be there to make up the numbers. I cannot see us beating big European teams. Spurs are not at that level yet I'm afraid.
Beating wigan 9-1 is great but its the ability to beat teams like Seville, Forentina etc 2-0 that are markers of progress.

We arnt good enough yet for top 4. We have a good squad but are still 2 or 3 players short of champions league football. We need to sign some experienced players who are leaders and used to winning trophies etc.

True, but the problem is that these types of players are, well, already playing for teams that are winning trophies!! Unless we achieve top 4 and therefore CL, those players wouldn't touch us with a bargepole, what our players need to do is look inside themselves and ask "do I really want to be the best?", if they can truly answer 'yes' then they'd better pull their effing socks up and work their bollocks off, or else fuckoff!!!

This. Also, how many of our players would for sure start for 2-3 of the "big 4" + Man City? Modric definitely. Not sure about a healthy Ledley or Woodgate. Keane would be lucky to make the subs, etc.

I really like Harry, but his lack of experience at leading a club to the top 4 is something that has worried me.

From top to bottom in our club, do we have anyone with CL experience with an EPL team? Woodgate and Keane in 2001 with Leeds?

Why did you quote and reply to your own post?

A fit Ledders would get in ANY team, as for the rest of them

I agree that we are not ready for he top 4. Still need more top level players, IF we can attract them . No one should be giving Harry anything but praise, we are doing fantastically well but ultimately, today shows why we are not good enough for top 4, I hope that I am wrong. Wednesday, is our biggest game of the season and will give a better indication as whether we can make it.

It looks unlikely. But I don't see why that is particularly surprising. We're not even in the Europa League this season for god sake. But we're going in the right directions so lets not all be doom and gloom eh?

No other team in the top 13 in the league have lost three games at home this season. We are not ready for the top 4.

Only Man Utd and Chelsea have won more pts away from home than us.

You can use stats to twist any argument. Whether we are ready or not for top 4 will be reflected on the table at the end of the season

Period.

Yes, it is kneejerk.

The teams that finish in the top 4 at the end of the season deserve to be in the Champions League, and we are 2 points off 3rd - to say we can't finish there is absolutely astonishing - and thoroughly laughable. I'm not for one minute saying we will, but there's no reason why we can't. Oh we lost to Wolves and Stoke at home we can't finish in the top 4 - is this some sort of new law that the Fa have pushed through for this season? It doesn't matter who you get the points against, it matters that you get more points than 16 other teams in the league - and we are well in the race.

Villa deserve to be in the CL more than us? Tell me why? Is it because we completely outplayed them on their own patch 2 weeks ago, completed over double amount of passes that them and can look back at being incredibly unlucky to not have come away with a win?

Incidentally, these are some comments made by Villa fans after said game...

think today we saw the 4th best team in the league and i'm afraid its not us.

I think Spurs will finish 3rd. They look better than Arsenal. Have that fighting spirit that Arsenal lacks.

I thought we were supposed to be on the same level as spurs? On that showing we're several leagues below.

We can't seem to pass the ball where as Spurs taught us a lesson in moving the ball around.

Totally outclassed by a very good Spurs side who are miles ahead of us when it comes to attacking football.

Now these are just reactionary posts on their part, seeing as they are now 2 points above us but the point is that every set of fans does this, we and Villa are very good sides - they are 2 points in front now but in a few weeks time could be 2 or more points behind. I keep banging on about how we shouldn't panic every time results don't go our way and all we can do is keep up with the chasing pack - which we have done.

And if we do get into the Champions League I'll be bloody loving it, you can be embarassed all you want, that's you're choice I guess.

'Sometimes it's better to say nothing and appear ignorant than open your mouth and remove all doubt' Apt, I feel.

We aren't a top four club. You need more than good form to do that, you have to seize chances, you have to salvage points with your backs to the wall, you have to go into the last game needing points to do it and not bottle it. That's not us.
