This guy doesn't seem like the type of RB we need but given he doesn't have long left on his contract it wouldn't surprise me if he is one we are looking at. Sadly we buy players that are good on the balance sheet, not necessarily on the team sheet.

He plays on both the right and the left, correct? Decent option with only a year left on his contract, gives us much-needed squad depth behind Aurier and also buys us time to allow Sessegnon to develop, potentially out on loan.
Left?

I think Hateboer are different players though and full backs play a particular way for Atalanta. For what it's worth Hateboer was run ragged defensively today and was substituted off in response to that.

Atalanta's fullbacks are good for atalanta, who play a very particular style of football, these players might not look so good in a team like ours. The fullbacks play so high up, Gosens has strikers records of goals cored, but he is not going to have that roll in most teams.

Also, Atalanta are largely top 4 quality. They are in the quarter finals of the champions league and didn't just beat Valencia in the last sixteen but completely tore them apart, which is something they regularly so, as I am sure you know. Were they tend to struggle is teams who sit and play long balls on the counter, but there record against big teams is exceptional. What Gasperini, always an underrated manager, has done is incredible.

A few seasons ago they sold off most of their team, and so many young talented Italian players have been developed there and become full internationals and they have been a major reason for the international resurgence of talented Italians coming through the systems. Not just based on talent they developed, but how other middling clubs started to try and replicate what Atalanta did. Players like Caldera, Spinazzola (not from the academy but really developed there), Conti, Cristante, Petagna, Bonaventura (Now captain of Milan), Basselli and Zappacosta were developed and sold, yet, somehow they got better.

I think they are super good and have seriously good players Gomez would be a dream signing for me. But Zapata, Muriel and Illicic is an attacking four to die for. Though again, the success rate of their sells varies considerably. Because they play to a system that works very well and a player outside of that system might not be all that.

Anyway, my point was, not being a starting fullback for Atalanta does mean you are not a champions league fullback. Also how many top 4 fullbacks are there in 'top 6' teams? Not that many!

I beg to differ. Nowadays, we play Aurier so far up the pitch - almost like a wing back with Davies withdrawn. So, Castagne will be perfect for us. He also plays left wing back equally well as well. His crossing is top notch and defending is good as well. He is a nice solid RB and also deceptively quick

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Timothy at this club. For that reason, I’m in

Oh, come on. We need a much stronger rationale to buy a player than just 'we haven't had a Timothy for a while', especially as our Tims haven't exactly been universally loved.

That noted, I am rather taken by the fact that his name in Italian translates to Timothy Chestnuts.

But the real clincher for me is that, if he joins, then our fullbacks will be T.C. and Benny...

If you have seen a lot of Castagne then i'll take your word for it but when he's not 1st choice at Atalanta & only has a handful of Belgium caps. Put that with a pretty average looking set of highlight clips and it really doesn't look great from the outside.

As I said before, I have seen him one game Live and explained what I saw.
Highlights does not do him justice at all.

Agree with this.

Again, him not starting for Atalanta says more about how they play rather than his ability as a player. I think as a fullback he is built for a back four, the others are more offensively minded and play to Atalanta's system better but I don't think that means they are necessarily better players. Castagne is being linked with Inter, Napoli and PSG as well. He is clearly rated by a lot of top clubs. He wants a PL move, we should use this to our advantage.

He's made 7 appearances this season on the left this season according to whoscored. Right-footed but can play either side, so his versatility would give us a bit of added squad depth.

I've not seen a great deal of Atalanta outside of a couple CL matches but Castagne sounds like something of a right-footed Davies to me. Not the kind of fullback who will use pace to beat a man and get to the byline, but an intelligent player who uses the ball well and can play a part in intricate passing moves. Would perhaps enable us to do a mirror image of the current fullback setup, with Sessegnon used as the pacey attacking fullback on the other side.

Exactly this. We can’t over rely on overloading the right side, teams will lap up the predictability of that alone

This reel shows a competent player. I'm in.

This show reel of his is 1000% better than the initial one i saw of him, that one didnt show any of his abilities at all, and i really do mean that. This one shows what people have said about him from actually watching his games, tracking back and making tackles / interceptions, this shows his versatility playing on both sides of the field and crossing is decent. His versatility could be be a key factor in his appeal especially if he is only 16M odd in market value

Telegraph have now mentioned him as a target as well:

Apart from Hojbjerg, Mourinho wants to sign a right-back this summer, with Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne, who has one year remaining on his contract and can play on the right or left, one player on the club’s radar.

I think Gosens is very good defensively too though, and while he's played the wingback role for Atalanta he was always a standard fullback prior to that. I agree the right side of Atalanta is weaker. He's also made for the EPL - very physically strong and fast, with technical ability and workrate to match.
