I think the bulk of our players lost faith in him during last season. The performances fell off a cliff and we were very lucky to make top 4. The players must have tried to play with passion in the final but they seemed to forget how to. This season is even worse because a lot of them didn't expect to still be here.

Poch has lost his connection with them and he's never getting it back. He won't be here at the start of next season nor will the contract rebels (or at least they won't be near the 1st team). I can't see it going any other way.

What happens to us? Prepare for two seasons of 'transition' minimum. Transitioning into what is the question that has me most concerned....

Go back to the start of the 18/19 season. Look through the list of games we've played from then until now. Count the number of games where we actually performed well. Not just won the game, but performed somewhere near the level we did almost every week between 2015-2017.

I counted 12. Out of 75 games. And one of those games was against Tranmere. We've been scraping points from games for nearly a season and a half now. This isn't a recent occurrence. It's been a steady and consistent decline with the occasional decent performance scattered in.

The last time we had back to back good performances was over the Christmas period last year, when we beat Everton 6-2 and Huddersfield 5-0. That is not good enough for a team of this quality.
Getting to our first ever CL final and finishing top 4 again, was good enough for me. When have we had in any better in terms of points and games won than we have in the last few years? Winning 5 and 6 nil every week is a fantasy that no manager will get you with this squad.

For me the quality we played last season was mediocre at best and I'm being kind. What we had were minutes. Some fantastic minutes sparsely in the season. Those minutes pulled us through. It was uncanny how bad we played and somehow sufficed instead of suffocate. It's fine when you have luck,as you have to enjoy some of that but it belied how bad we really were. Of course I am speaking relatively as I expected more.
If you expected less good luck to you

We were saved by VAR in the very last minute of the quarter final after we let Man City score their 5th goal of the game. Imagine there was no VAR and we ended up getting knocked out in that game, which we absolutely would have deserved. Keeping all other results and performances the same, are you still happy?

Alternatively, imagine Inter Milan didn't bottle it in the final group stage game against PSV and we ended up finishing 3rd in the group. Keeping all other results and performances the same, are you still happy?

Now imagine Arsenal don't concede a penalty and actually beat Brighton at home on matchday 37, meaning they end up finishing a point above us in 4th. Keeping all other results and performances the same, are you still happy?

Our finishing in the top 4 was more down to Arsenal and Man Utd being poor than Pochettino guiding us there. Likewise, our Champions League run required immense amounts of luck.

And your contentment with the manager's performance requires other teams to drop points at home that they should've been winning. That simply isn't good enough for a squad of this quality.

Time running out ?

This guy would have been headhunted more times than a whores legs has been open when the going was 'good' for spurs for the past few seasons and he's stayed committed to Spurs.

He fully deserves the time to try and get things right, i'm not saying he's going to but you dont piss him out the door when there's 1 bad spell.

True...imagine if an asteroid had hit the Ethiad in the quarter final as well! Where would we have been then? Obviously, according to you it would have been Poch's fault.

Interesting to read the Evening Standard from our England left back on how he is going nowhere even though he won't get a new contract. Maybe if the players had less respect for Poch those who DL wants out would just go but Poch makes the atmosphere too good.

It seems to me that rebuilding properly is being held back by so many players running down contracts. For this I blame DL and would suggest (of course I might be way off the mark) is what he has alluded to about being the coach not the manager. This problem seems like a cancer at the club

Given what I've just said, there's no time frame. It's down to levy and poch to have some sort of plan, if it involves transfers then Jan will be a big month for change, right now there has to be some sort of cohesion in the starting 11 and squad, I think things will settle once the poison is moved out and all that has to be discussed between poch and his staff and of course levy. I think this season is already written off, I dont think we can catch top 4, were more likely to catch a cold but I dont think were good enough to even do that right now.

The bottom line is Poch was getting a tune out of mediocre players a few years ago and now he isn't getting a tune out of quality players (we do have a lot of them). How many excuses can we muster for this manager? Shouldn't he take some responsibility for the downturn. He really has used every excuse known to man so have those that backed him

I also think it causes problems when players are told they're not wanted. Rose was told to go and find another club and Vertonghen has been told he won't get a new deal (I think). Wanyama was similarly told he should move on. That's a pretty big de-motivator. The players who openly want to move have no vested interest in how we do this season eeither, and it shows. We win or lose as a team, but when the fabric of the team is in tatters it all becomes such a mess. As I've said before, I'd rather we played those that are committed to try to recover some team spirit.

If that's the best defense you can come up, then that speaks volumes.

Actually I care about winning but I care much more about quality football and winning.
With just winning without quality you get anxiety before every game
With winning with quality or even losing with quality..while you may not be happy it develops confidence in the efficacy of the team.
That's the way it is at least for me

Pochetto out!.....Ive seen this sort of groundswell on here so many times; Redknap out!; Jol out! etc' etc. 'be very careful what you wish for' is another cliché that might be quoted here.
Let's try to keep our heads people......

Please, please, please. Can we STOP being so media and pundit driven, that it is purely money and out of contract players. There has been major issues for 18 months between Poch and his staff with the club, and a good amount of players. And before any sarcastic comment comes my direction. Anything I state here or elsewhere, is well documented internally, and has been so for a very long time.

Perhaps he should have walked then.

Excuses at every turn.

Back dated now for people who sit on both sides of the fence. It's boring.

He, Levy, the other two shills on the committee, sort it out, or step aside and let someone else have a go.

Sorry Trix....are you being sarcastic here? Or, is it a bit of both? Money and tactics......

Thanks for the clarification. I'm utterly confused...Poch didn't become a poor manager overnight (though some could argue our away form this past year speaks for itself).

Thanks again for your valuable inputs on this forum.
Poch didn't become a bad manager overnite, and isn't a bad manager. I just think he is a limited manager...well up to now anyway.
He had a good plan. This includes fitness levels, strong defence, part Bielsa system, big counter attack. He even wants to change it to more attacking (they bought 4 attacking type players in the summer) but can he develop this? This is a big question mark as he has fumbled through especially this season. OK injuries but what happened to the energy the players have.Have they lost belief? It takes knowhow and at least creativity to get through this and so far he hasnt figured out how. Maybe Levy would give him one more shot of buying players that we need but he has to get the belief back in the players to start.
