Meh, probably true as we only have two league wins. Personally I prefer looking at where we are now and where we're going rather than dwell on the past

Newcastle were pulling 14,000 attendances in the 80's, haven't won the league title since the 1920's, haven't won the Cup since the 50's, and have spent regular periods in the second tier...

...but they're one slot below Spurs? Hmmm. Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and probably Forest are all "bigger" than Newcastle on all those criteria.

Truth is, Spurs are in a second tier here, along with Everton, Villa, City and Chelsea. The order is whatever.

Man. United and Liverpool are still the only tier 1 teams IMO. Multiple European Cups & league titles, a genuine worldwide fan base, strong attendances throughout good & bad times etc.

I think the only way to make a meaningful list of this kind is to split it into tiers like that: Two teams in tier one; four or five in tier two etc.

Me personally, im not fussed about club size. I look at the plastic disease that's taken the "big" uk clubs and think nah thanks. At the same time being a supporter of my club means I want us to win everything and get the best players.

In the sixties, us and Arse were on par, same level as Utd and ‘Pool. Big five included Everton at that time. After that, somehow we became a cup team, UEFA ’72, League cups, FA cups ‘80s. All the while, the others, including Everton had won the league, City, Forest, Derby too.

Utd had already won the European Cup, ‘Pool won several later as did Forest (2) and Villa. F’ing Arse won the League and FA cups several times.

PL era came into play, Arse, Utd dominated the league for a few years, Utd and ‘Pool won the CL. Chels money won them PLs and CL. City money won PLs, and then Leicester last year. The fact that we were even close last year is huge given our history!

Not just giving a running commentary on history as I remember it, but thinking about my club in that history.

I give credit to Levy for giving us a solid foundation to put us on a secure footing to move forward as a club; still get pissed at him for not investing in key players when it’s clear we need them, but he was just what we needed when he came in.

Huge f’ing fanbase and we didn’t need last Wednesday to prove it! We’re actually back amongst it now. Historically, we have underachieved horribly given the strength, loyalty and size of our fanbase. It’s changing!

That's too easy ;)
OK, well, let's look at objective factors:

Aston Villa (and Newcastle) actually got relegated. This list doesn't count failures, but such a recent failure as relegation sends them down the list I my view.

UEFA Club coefficients have us ranked as the 4th best team from the English FA, with Everton being in a puny team in comparison. The list above takes into account a far longer history than the UEFA ranking, but the very vast difference between Spurs and Everton on said ranking must be taken somewhat into account.

Our annual revenue is 100 million or more higher than for Villa and Everton.

Our total trophy count is higher than for Villa and equal to Everton.

Due to an embarrassing relegation for Villa, Everton's puny modern achievement in Europe and the dwarfed annual revenues, I think objectively it's safe to say that Spurs is the 5th biggest club.
