Worth remembering that so far, we’ve been told were working on a limited transfer budget. Gabriel might be good for 20m. But which RB or ST are you going for now you’ve spent 20m?

Wages are part of the budget as well and Thiago Silva would want mega bucks. I'd rather we went for Malang Sarr (which means we won't).

He’s a really interesting alternative. Others have sung his praises in various threads. There seems to be a lot of upside about him, but at 21 and available on a free, the question is what’s the catch?
This summer more than any other we need to recruit wisely. We simply can’t afford any more signings that don’t deliver

I think the catch is that plenty of clubs will be after Sarr, but if Vertonghen goes we really need a lefty. I also have quite substantial doubts as to whether Silva would cut it in the EPL at his age.

I get that, he should be highly sought after. Haven’t seen any links to us, or any rumours that another club is in advanced talks. Trying to work out why that is.
I guess we can have doubts that Sarr is of the necessary standard to play for us, although he may be up to it physically.
And we can also have (slightly different) doubts about Thiagos ability to play in a notoriously quick league at his age.
Every transfer comes with a risk. I guess our scouting dept has to decide which risk is lower.

Was it the Barcelona President saying the other day that they'd have to cut spending and wages to stay within FFP margins now that Covid has reduced revenues so much? It seems that either Chelsea don't give a toss or that they're confident they'll get away with massive overspending one way or another.

Thanks Rob.

This person also mentioned that we have young defenders (which confused me as we have two very experienced ones) once I saw the starting line up last night, it struck me that maybe Jose is happy to let both Toby and Jan go in order to bring in Silva.

Maybe he doesn't see Toby and Jan as defenders who can play his system? To be fair, Jan isn't a deep defender and Toby is better on the front foot.
Was the best player on the pitch the other night against Leipzig! Think Chelsea also looking at him as well

Why bother worrying, unless I’ve missed something the precedent was set when Man City got off free

I think a lot of the stuff they were accused of happened before all of the FFP rules were in place which effectively meant they didn't do wrong on those occasions. I don't actually know how Covid will affect FFP but it would be interesting to know.

Chelsea are likely still spending some of the Hazard money. Plus getting Willian off the wage book has freed up money too.

Plus FFP is basically fucked after the City verdict.

He's been offered to Chelsea that's all, another 4 clubs are interested and he hasn't made his mind up yet.
