so i was the only one who was too focused on when the fat lady would start singing, and if juventus were in the picture, rather than the plain simple barcelona and villa link?

man....

Even if Villa only has 2 more seasons at the top of his game, it is well worth it in my opinion. Not only is he class and will provide vital goals, but his experience and pedigree will be invaluable to younger players we are developing (and lets face it we have a lot of promising youngsters in the u21s for the first time in a long time). Also will give us time to find a younger long term investment or someone to be Villa's understudy short term while they settle in and develo;,

Agreed. It can't be underestimated the impact of having a proper winner in our squad. While we have a squad of talented footballers, we don't have a huge amount of winners in there in terms of trophies. It's not often you get the chance to snap up a Champs League/World Cup/Euro Champs winner.

in any case... read an espn article about one player that the journalist felt turned the fortunes of one Arse-nal 10 years ago when he signed - Dennis Bergkamp.

In my (and my dad's) opinion, the finishing of Henry has got to do A LOT with playing with, training with, observing, learning from Bergkamp. That effortless placing into top/bottom corner.

If Villa joins... he can be our Bergkamp to our .... erm ... I'm struggling here ... KANE? :p

in other (could be) related news ---
Aspas becomes Liverpool's third confirmed signing of the summer, following the captures of central defender Kolo Toure from Manchester City on a free transfer and forward Luis Alberto from Sevilla for around £6 million. Manager Brendan Rodgers is also hoping to welcome Simon Mignolet this coming week, with the goalkeeper set to join from Sunderland after a £9 million fee was agreed on Friday.

>>> suarez &/or cavani to Madrid and hands off Bale (which some ITK said was a smokescreen anyways)

So why do we need to use a cryptic for Villa when everyone knows we've been linked......

and I realize theres a need to try to keep a lid on things like this but theres no need for cryptic info related to him.
my young Skywalker, rather than A&C sticking to his daily thread poems, jokes, dildo, dwarfs, tax collection pleas intro, he had a go at cryptography .

For some reason, maybe I am just being overly pessimistic, but I get a odd feeling Villa and Paulinho will be the only two plays we bring in this summer. If we do bring in anyone else I also feel it will most likely be a young defensive player for the future. The other player I feel we need as much as a forward, a new left wing playmaker like Lamela/Bernard, is probably not on Levys list. Why I feel like this I don't know, just a hunch.

If we get Villa and Paulinho, that will be a good bit of business.
I get the feeling that there may be more coming though: AVB has not gone to PSG and Bale is hopefully committed to staying. There needs to be a serious push at the title to make them stay. I hope that Levy has factored that in and is prepared to flash the cash.

Age is not a concern, fitness could be. Klose moved to Lazio at 33 & Raul moved to Schalke at 33 - both were great success. Class prevails.

When people talk about signing a 32 year old as not being an investment, i guess they mean financially, and not taking into account their services where that particular individual might be the catalyst to glory.

Investment in terms of an asset with resale value

We've seen several times the benefit of older quality players - they add quality in the here and now and they help develop the younger players around them

Klinsmann, Naybet, Davids to name 3 perfect examples

Villa would be an outstanding signing- no doubt about that, but yea as a direct investment in the sense of a player who will come in and improve personally to be able to be sold at a profit he is not. That by no means suggests he wouldn't be a great signing, of course he would (who knows, his presence could result in a younger striker developing into a world beater from learning off Villa which would offset the loss in outlay from signing an elder statesman of the game)

Since when did we become too good for David Villa?

Considering the impact VdV, a player who struggled to make it past 75 minutes, had for us, I can't see what the fuss is all about over signing a world class player who's slightly old.

It will be a massive statement for the club.

totally agree, also if we're still looking at our targets in sense of resale value etc theres something wrong imo, i know why levy does it but we aint a small team trying to sign players to sell on for profit still surely? there's gotta be a time where we're gonna have to take a risk and go for it

With flights from City airport taking 1hr 15minutes, Villa wouldn't even need to move house!

I think its important to have a mix of signings for the here and now designed purely to complete our current first team and bring success and others who have potential and hopefully will rise in value to make the club money if they are sold

I'm confident now we have a guy in charge of transfers we'll see a lot of good business on both fronts in the next few years

im looking at the important facts here, regardless of age Villa is the kind of player who can win and take penalties. I cant believe youve all missed the masterplan!

We havent been able to buy a penalty let alone score one for far too long.

I would be delighted with Villa and if you wouldn't be then you are quite frankly mental. Yeah he is 31, but he is not reliant on pace but rather clever movement, great instincts and just flat out superior quality. 2-3 years of gauranteed goals would be pricelss. Not to mention he is a winner and that metality rubs off on the rest of the squad

Not to mention his know how will improve the other forwards at the club. Prime example for me is when Naybet joined us the tail end of his career, the improvement in Ledley King was staggering. He learnt from Naybet that defending is done in the head as much as with his imposing physical attributes

All transfers are risk/reward but Villa, despite his age, is a minimal risk and could have tremendous rewards

villa's age is no concern. our short term goal is a minimum of champs league qualification. once we've met that target, our attractiveness to world class players will be given a mighty boost to bolster our squad even further and sustain champs league qualification for years to come. villa in my opinion will be necessary for spurs to achieve this goal and will be bought for that sole reason. just like palacios and parker were bought in to give our midfield a bit of aggression, and then deemed surplus to requirements...villa will be the same 2 years down the line
