I hope that we did have first refusal on Higuain and chose not to take him because:
A) we have better in the pipeline
B) he is about to fall apart physically (not ITK, just hoping)

If not, Arsenal have got a frighteningly good front line shaping up.

If we had first refusal we'd have just established that he won't sign for us because we can't match his wages and or can't offer him CL - probably from his agent - and had to move on because we'd have known our first refusal wasn't worth shit when the player didn't want to come to us

A) what better could we have in the pipeline than a 25 year old elite level striker? Messi?
B) At 25 is he likely to be falling apart physically any time soon?

Let's face it if he signs for Arsenal he's gonna be an immense signing - that being said they already had an immense striker 2 seasons ago and we were still ahead of them by a distance before we fucked it all up

For us he has but not England. Like I said he plate left midfield at least once in the euro 2013 (at least that's where he started the game) and he played on the left of a forward 3 at a previous tournament
Did you not watch any recent u21 games? Against who did he play left mid in the recent one? Missed the first game due to suspension, 2nd game lb, I never see the Norway game though.

Higuain..meh.

I could score goals up front for Real in the Spanish League.

48 appearances 8 goals, 4 assists in the Champions League.

More fool Arsenal ;)

Villa 25 appearances 8 goals 4 assists for Barca in the CL.
That's more like it!
[Lies damn lies statistics etc]

No didn't watch any but haven't said he's been bad for u21's. The website I read report on had him as left mid in a 352 (this could be wrong tho, but who ever really know the formation) all reviews of the games had him down as performing poorly tho (read more than a few that rated him at 5/10) and this is only against u21 opposition. Dont get me wrong I'd love him to prove me wrong and be a success but everything I've seen and heard from him tells me he won't...

And we have evolved too!!! And by the looks of it making some classy signings also!!

Just look at our team again with paulinho villa and another forward added to it and with sandro and kaboul coming back and bale staying and tell me we are not one sh*t hot team!!!

Obviously this is all dependent on us signing these players :-S

A) Audere est facere
B) Ledders?

Seriously, you are probably right: we could not have competed on wages but I seriously hope there are some decent irons in the fire because Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are gearing up for a decent run at the top 4 next season (looking at what Liverpool are doing in the transfer market - bear in mind Rodgers' ability to find cheap Spanish talent!) The Mancs (x2) are going to stay there or thereabouts and we could be left well off the pace without similar investment. So, I hope we have the signings on the way. Messi? Perhaps not. Equal to or better than Higuain? They do exist...

Hence why we need to make some quality signings soon and give them time to gel! Arsenal are most realistically the team we need to dislodge to claim a CL spot but If they get the players that are being rumoured, then Levy and Baldini better have something big in the pipeline or we may aswel surrender now and wave the arsenal shirt of a red flag! This year is out best chance ever to make a real go and take us to the next level and not the time for levy to penny pinch (if rumours are true) over deals and not invest enough in the squad. At the end of the day if he's serious about being a CL club then we have to spend (not talking 20+ mil a player here) end of

Dear God.

Red shoes, no knickers. The brazen B'stard is advertising!

Last time I saw shoes like that, Michael Jackson was Moonwalking in them!

Leave him alone, he just wants to get back to Knasas, cause there's no place like home.

I agree its unlikely Arsenal will be as touchable as they have been for the past 2 years, they're on the rise and looking to spend to get back in the title mix

It's up to us to respond - its not automatic that they'll leave us behind, Wenger's recent signings haven't always come off and hopefully he'll waste more money (though Higuain would seem a very sound investment)

Every year I hear people say we missed the chance to catch them and they'll leave us behind now - I'll admit its more likely to happen this year, but still its not a given. Let's see who we sign

Also don't forget -

We'll have a team now used to their new manager and his tactics/system etc
several key players who will be more experienced in our league and team (with their team mates etc) i.e. Vertonghen/Holtby
Have Kaboul and Sandro back to form a more solid and settled buffer in front of our goal
Have Lloris in and settled instead of starting Big Brad for several games
Townsend will provide a bit of wing cover which we've lacked (pace from the bench)

Then we'll have to compare our respective signings - they've not completed the Higuain deal just yet and who knows we might just sign Villa

So yea, they're improved from 2 years ago and likely to kick on but hopefully so will we

I'm not doubting that we could make a great signing to rival Higuain - hell if we really do sign Villa there's one right there (just older and less of a good investment)

I'm more suggesting no way did we not consider Higuain because we had better options

If we had a chance I am sure we'd have snapped hands off to sign him - but we have to work within our constraints, we don't have as much money to offer players nor do we have CL football but we've shown before that doesn't mean we can't compete with the Scum and hopefully we'll continue to do so (and actually over take them this time)

Well perhaps you should watch him for yourself and form your own opinion. I don't know how good he'll turn out but I'm prepared to give him his chance. Besides not performing for a team managed by Stuart Pearce is no barometer to judge a player by
