Sorry but anyone (associated with football or not) would recognise that 100 million is well, 100 million. One of the best sides in Europe over the past two decades sold their star player for 80 million.

I don't see anyone in their right mind (including Levy at his most arrogant) turning that money down or even being allowed to turn that money down irrespective of what AVB or anyone else thinks about Bale. We could replace him for half that amount leaving enough for Levy to ponder on which Hawaiian paradise he wants to buy with this cut.

As I said in the Gareth Bale thread:

We might be able to take 80 or 90m and replace most of Bale's effect on the football pitch. But Bale isn't worth 90m+ to us only because of what he does on the pitch. He's how we get world class talents like Paulinho and Soldado to view our club as a step up instead of a fifth-place club with a stadium that only seats 36k. He's how we convince our world-class young manager to tell PSG and their nine-figure transfer budget to piss off. Bale isn't just a great winger, he's ten thousand screaming fans at the Asia cup wearing Spurs kits with 11 on the back, and a hundred thousand more in the rest of the world. Bale is, at the moment, everything that allows us to push towards being one of the true top clubs in football. Having one of the best three or four players in the world isn't just about what he brings to the pitch, it's about what he enables for the club. And thats why Lamela and Coentrao and Bruma and Dzeko still wouldn't make up for losing bale, and why he won't be sold until we've milked everything we can from his success and put THFC in the best possible position to move forward once he is gone.

Love them, or loathe them. Madrid know how best to utilise a player's marketing abilities. Now Bale has been featured for BT Sports, on cover of FIFA 14 over here and even used as the poster boy in Times Square, they'll want him even more. They know that whatever they pay, they'll probably get that back from sponsor deals, ads, shirts and merchandise sales etc.

I am not sure people are aware about david pleat but not only does he act as an advisor to levy. He is one of our current european scouts. he knows the score at the club.

Rather interestingly there was a point last season with the backroom shake up where pleat was the only senior scout at the club!

JJetset said the same, something to do with 'holding the fort' or something.

Amazing coup. But it didn't lead to any kind of revolution in English football. It wasn't until after Jurgen that the floodgates opened and world stars started to flood into English football.
You seem to be forgetting such players as John Chiedozie and Nico Claesen - world stars were flooding in, you just needed to look harder.

It really is not that cut and dry at all though. It is not just about what he adds on the pitch but what effect he can have longer term on the football club. If we can keep him, it will make finding future sponsors much easier. It will also raise the total they are willing to pay us in Sponsorship as he will mean that people throughout America, Europe, The Far East and Africa will be more likely to know who Tottenham Hotspur are the same way Drogba, Beckham, Messi or Ronaldo do.

Its not just about replacing his footballing ability, its his commercial value to us.

Why can't some people grasp that.

Why do you think Madrid are so desperate for him.

Because he will not earn the Club 100 million (unless he is transferred) , i thought that pretty bloody obvious. For some strange reason you make it sound like the Club gets 10 million a season for Bale to put a Spurs shirt on?

Madrid are desperate for him because the Presidenti wants to be bloody re-elected, another obvious fact. It's not hard to grasp that 100 million to a Club with ambitions of a new stadium and the like is a huge chunk of change.

Equally though, Bale's becoming seriously precious fucking cargo. He could do the right thing, sign an extension till 2025, and then break his leg first day of the season.

I want him to stay, I want the world class striker we and he deserve, and I want us to win the frickin' quadruple... But it's at least reaching the stage where - if he goes - we'll get a sizeable wedge to attempt to replace him - and with 3 or 4 big, big players. (Eg. Coentrao, Bernard, Damiao, Alderwireld and we could have 20 over still!)

I'm kinda cool either way to be honest, now. Beers notwithstanding.

(For the record, I'll think he stay).

By all accounts Barcelona have recouped their £45m odd fee for Neymar already via their shirt sales with his name.

Seems very quick but I have seen this reported in a few places over the last couple of days.

Point is, we need to get as much cash as we can if we are to sell Bale, Real know whatever they pay that they'll recoup it.

Plenty of places to spend £70m odd, Lamela, Reus (unlikely but money talks), Benteke, Kurt Zouma, Eriksen, etc.

Spot on. People just concentrate on how the money could be spent on the team but completely ignore the other financial factors where Bale is concerned. Its not like Modric, Berbatov or anyone else we've sold, Bale is simply huge right now. The exposure he is getting us all over the world is worth far more to us in the long run than any transfer fee Real Madrid could possibly put in front of us.

What is 80 million compared with the effect of brand Bale increasing our worldwide supporter base by a million or more people? Selling Bale won't fund our new stadium but keeping him certainly could. Oh, and he isn't half bad on the pitch either of course.

Someone in the Soldado (3) thread has said that Soldado has said goodbye to his colleagues at Valencia and is coming over for a medical tomorrow.
Apologies for crashing this Bale thread but I thought it was of interest, if not relevant I'll erase it, I don't want to get into trouble.

Absolutely. Cristiano Ronaldo's £80m was recouped within three years of him signing due to advertising/merchandising. 1m of his shirts were sold in Madrid alone during his first season. So Real Madrid paid... Nothing, plus wages/signing on fee for him.

This is what other supporters can't seem to understand. Chelsea or City fans see £90m for Bale and think "Sell!" But if Chelsea sold Bale, they'd replace him with players like Hazard, Reus, Mata, Draxler, Rooney, etc. They wouldn't lose massive exposure worldwide; TV networks would still show their games whenever they could, people in countries all over the world would still buy Chelsea kits. But we can't attract those players, certainly not without CL and possibly not until we get our stadium; and there are tens of thousands of fans who only noticed our club exists because of Bale. £90m is crazy money for a footballer, but Bale is much, much more for us than just a great footballer. He is our brand. This is also what people comparing his value to the Ronaldo transfer don't get. Bale means way more to us than CR7 meant to Man United, regardless of who was the better player on the field.

Sadly you've already crossed that line. You probably would have been safer to post up a twitter link from someone calling A&C a nasty smelly bell end.
