on another note a mate has just texted me this post by Hertyid over on COYS. He had just been to a wedding....

With an associate of JB.

Bale - we set a price, was agreed initially by two clubs. Neither have bid that number officially and GB happy to sign new contract. Agent gets 20% of wages so no pressure to move.

Villa - we had him agreed. Athletico came in late, nothing we could do. Gotta move on.

He said soldado being pawned around. I know nothing about this guy but he reckons he'll be in PL by sept.

Also said we were chasing Shaktar guy for the last year but in end money wasn't enough, not sure which player he was referring to.

Final he said we have money to spend. GB seen our plans and very impressed, if not he wouldn't be signing up. Said JB and son very happy and expect a lot. all good.

Don't know who JB is?
hmm

Agent getting 20% of what GB makes is crazy. Unreal how much these guys are able to line their own pockets for a service that plenty of other people could do for a fraction of the cost.

The Villa bit is a stark contrast to what we have been hearing recently. Everyone else has now been saying that we were never that close and he was always staying in Spain.

Assuming he is talking about Mkhitaryan there. Would have loved him based on the limited amount I've seen. Last summer would have been the time to get him though. Talent is too well known now.

And regarding the last bit, we've seen similar comments from a couple of sources every year. I'll believe it when I see it. Sure thing, we'll spend infinite money if we can get 10 players at great (unrealistic) prices. It doesn't happen though.

It's crazy that we might have set a price for Bale and that two clubs unofficially are ready to meet that demand. It's got to be an exorbitant amount of money.

I thought the Paulinho signing was great at the time because it didn't make all that much sense - almost a luxury signing. That led me to think that the ITK about "war chests" and such had to be true because why else would they drop £17 mill on a position that was pretty well covered all things considered when striker was still such an obvious need.

Now it is just confusing me. If Levy is still just trying to only find bargains and still low-balling teams and overvaluing his own assets so no one buys them, then why did they pop £17 mil on Paulinho (who by the way I am happy to have on the team) right off the bat? Maybe it's just me.

Because 4-3-3.

And if we want a pacy Brazilian left-winger/forward and a player named Osvaldo we could also buy this guy for probably peanuts and kill 2 with one stone!!! I can see levy calling Andre.

Levy: Andre I have bought you that Brazilian winger..Osvaldo.
AVB : thanks Dan..Bernard and Osvaldo will be great.
How much did you spend?
Daniel: About £5mil.
Andre: how did you get both for only £5mil?
Levy: Both what? I bought you the Brazilian Osvaldo not the Brazilian and Osvaldo.
AVB: WTF!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osvaldo_Lourenço_Filho

Though the guy seems to be a pretty good player in the Brazil league....

I wouldn't put much stock in what his agent is saying about a fee being agreed. If there were two club's and we'd agreed a fee, Bale isn't a Spurs player. Likely just agent embellishment to stir the pot.

I agree with you about him possibly being a negative but depending on what is available he may be something of the best value and I was just mentioning how I feel his attitude MAY not be such a huge drawback. For me, none of us know exactly what he is like. Baldini would probably have the best handle on how big/small of a problem he could be. When you play sports and your team is full of "nice guys" you can be successful but often the very best teams have a bit of "snarl" to them. It's somewhat a type of intimidation and having a guy on your team that is both a good player and has a bit of "crazy" sometimes gives you the confidence to be more aggressive. I think some of our players would be even more effective with a bit more arrogance/aggressiveness in their play. But that's just my opinion.

We must have someone with a bit of devil in him.

I don't think this is true, iit's not the "snarl" of Zlatan or Cantona that made them winnners, it's that they had great skills. Of course you want players in your team who believe in themselves, but craziness is overrated. There are also plenty of great teams who don't have any of these types of players. Look at this year's Bayern, even Robben was turned into a model pro. And with fierce tackling being taken out of the game, it's not really important to have a midfield enforcer anymore, more someone who is positionally intelligent to fill the spaces that attacking players like to drift into.

Paulinho was the perfect signing. He is a potentially better Moutinho. More powerful and more goals.... Simple. That position is key to AVBs style. AVB has proved his worth and I must credit the team they are building the right way. Getting the spine right is key - Lloris - Verts - Kaboul - Sandro - Paulinho. Now comes the forward. Stay positive lads, we will get there. COYS

I'm not saying they don't or didn't have great skill. And an enforcer isn't what I was looking at. What I was looking at is a guy with the attitude of not being a "nice" guy. I'm not advocating "craziness" just for the sake of it but rather the type of attitude that we're better and we're going to win. Other players can feed off of this individual's confidence/arrogance especially if the arrogant guy can produce. Love him or hate him Zlatan is like this. He feels he is the best player on the planet and whether or not you agree with that doesn't matter to him. He plays in a way as if to say ..what are you even doing on the pitch with me.. He expects to score, to dominate. We seem to play hard and work hard but we could use a bit of a rough edge in my personal opinion. But there are many ways to win football matches. We have a physically imposing team shaping up. We also have some skill in there as well. A bit of a mean streak would be welcome is all im thinking....Our players are humble. Maybe we need a bit of brash.

For me a player like Osvaldo could do wonders for the squads' mentality. He brings an "attitude" to the pitch much like a Cantona or Zlatan. (not saying hes anything like these players) We have a great squad of genuinely "nice-guy" players. Bale/Defoe/Lennon/Verts/Dembele etc just seem like nice guys working hard. Injecting a little attitude a la Osvaldo could help the team in general to have that "fuck you" we're gonna beat the piss out of you attitude that I would like to see from the team more often. Now reports are he is a bit of a nut and could technically hurt the chemistry but who knows. Luckily Baldini should have a good idea of how he may affect the team and if he thinks it would work then i'm all for it...

Exactly, I was thinking the same thing about him. We've lacked an edge for a long time and I think Osvaldo would sharpen it a great deal. Of course he could take it too far one day and shove Tom Carroll, shattering his entire skeleton.

I think we dug out a lot of results last season, got a lot of late goals. To me it was it was the balance of the squad that let us down last year rather than attitude.

I'm not saying that Paulinho isn't a good signing, but he's nothing like Moutinho. Paulinho is a powerful box-to-box player, whereas Moutinho is a play maker. One is force, the other is finesse.

I'm actually feeling a lot more positive though. Yes there's a question mark over our strikers, but that's not to say Adebayor can't find the form of two seasons ago. If he does, he's as good if not better than any striker we can realistically bring in.

That's true. After complaining about our failure of buying strikers, I must admit that the signing of Paulinho makes me excited than all potential signing like Villa, Benteke, Damiao.

VERY seriously doubt his agent gets 20%.

Not saying we have a poor attitude or that it let us down. Just that we could probably be something more. I don't know the word I'm looking for but I think we could be even better. Maybe it's just confidence??maybe personality??? And I agree the squad balance was/is a big problem though I believe we're working on that. We more than held our own vs United when they struck back at OT And when we were down and came back late at the Lane. The win vs City late last year showed how we don't stop trying. Our effort, especially for the big games seemed to be one of the big improvements under AVB. Sadly we let some of the lesser teams hang around and get into games. We've seemed to play to the level of our opponents. I feel that a personality like a (Cantona/Zlatan "mean/nasty" but good) can actually inspire and bring confidence to the other players and get them to a higher level...thats all.
