Might as well get rid of linesmen now. Surely one of their most important jobs is to see if the ball crosses the goal line in these instances.

What do they do now? They don’t give offsides, they don’t say if the ball crosses the line and they usually wait for the ref to award a throw in before signalling which team should take it. They literally have no jobs left to do, do they?

If seven cameras couldn't see the ball crossing the line it's doubtful whether the ref or linesman would have been able to see it either. It was a freak occurrence. Hopefully next time they'll check VAR.

i am still surprised VAR didn't look at it. it was a clear and obvious error by the assistant ref, should at least take a look!

not the refs fault, his angle is hard to judge, he needed help from the guy on the touch line, but VAR should have looked at it and made the call.

or the ref calls it a goal and let VAR rule it out if it didn't cross the time.

if it happened to a bigger club... people will be asking to change the rules. imagine if it happened to Liverpool!

I fucking hate penalties...and seeing how low the standard has been set for what qualifies as one (when in my belief it should be as difficult as possible) and the sheer amount given has been one of several reasons why I'm close to sacking off football for good.

Imo VAR is broken. So many situations this season that should be taken into account for next season. There should never be a situation where the VAR Room is the one advising the referee to go back on a situation. The ref is the one calling the shots and not the other way around.

Isn't that pretty much the entire purpose of VAR?

It’s truly awful how football has taken a tool successfully applied in multiple sports like Tennis, Rugby, Cricket, etc. and managed to fuck it to the point that people now want all technology removed from the game

As it stands today, yes it is. Take field hockey for an example;

«players can only call for reviews on plays happening within the 23-metre area and relating to the awarding or ruling out goals, penalty corners and penalty strokes. This also ties in with the fact that teams are only allowed to request one video referral per game. This allows for the game to be played more accurately and fluidly, without having sacrificing the pace of the game»

Tweaking some of the rules of course, this could be an good example to follow.

What's the point in having a system to make sure that decisions are correct if you then limit is use?

Hey man, it’s an opinion. I feel that the game is often halted because of the interference from the VAR room. The referee should use VAR when in doubt not the other way around and that’s my opinion

Surprised it wasn't given as Red.
Only thought pattern I have of VAR and Oliver is the force used was not deemed as excessive by them.
Unlike Nketiah yesterday which was from the front and at pace and caught him full on, this was not, it was more from standing position from side, and force to win ball may have been deemed as reasonable and the tackle reckless which is cautionable, rather than with excessive force which is what is needed for it to be a dismissal.

Also it was against West Ham, so who cares :)

This has to be good news. The refs in this country have been shocking at implementing it properly.

How on earth did VAR not overturn that penalty Man United just won. Absolute blatant dive. Never a penalty.

Fernandes stamped on the defender
Kane push was a penalty (not an excuse, we were shit but it was a penalty).

It feels like there is some dodgy call every game now and the inconsistency is absolutely killing the game.
