I understand where you’re coming from, but there have always been contentious decisions that the crowd had no idea what happened, all you ever had to go on was a vague hand signal from the ref. I don’t see why this has to be different. They signal for tv ref, and signal that it’s handball/offside/etc. If there’s a big screen, sure show it, if not, that’s the individual clubs problem.

Yes but the decision was quick and if it was offside you could see the lino. Unfortunately it is not quick and it takes time for the announcer to state its going to VAR. We should get the same info on screen as they get at Stockley Park and on Sky. Personally I think the refs should be miked up as well. We would be made aware even quicker.

I thought they said they were going to show the video in the ground before the season started. But alas no.
Correct me if I'm wrong cos I wasnt there. But in that vlogger video people were laughing at over in the what our opponents fans are saying thread, it looks like they are showing the replay decision on the big screen.

It's at 1:45 on the video, the kid says it hit his arm and everyone is looking at the big screen. It then says var complete and no goal.

Here is a screenshot

I’ve always thought the refs should be miked up like in rugby. I think it would make them more imposing to the players too. The decision do need to come a little quicker yeah. I think the more time goes on the more efficient it will be and the quicker the decisions will come.

I think people just need to take a breath and get used to VAR.

Oh ok. They didn’t show any decisions in the villa game. Not that there were any var really needed to get involved in.

Here’s the answer. We should be able to see it in real time like people on watching on tv

Nothing wrong with a bit of tension and drama waiting to see whether it's going to be a goal or not. Sky is missing a trick not having Davina McCall in the studio to give it an X-Factor drum roll moment and hushing everyone for 10-20 seconds before declaring the decision and playing some Boyzone.

Hopefully it'll settle down when we see some more 'direct' handballs disallowed, rather than these more ambiguous scenarios where the ball proceeds to another passage of play.

For me, rather than ruining football it's made me have a lot more faith in it again. I cannot stand injustice, it fucking bothers me more than it should (in every walk of life), and certainly a hell of a lot more than waiting a few seconds for a decision on a football pitch, so I'm all for it. I've certainly been enjoying football a lot more since it came in, and watching all these commentators crying like babies is just an added bonus. As others have said, they might have to actually talk about tactics soon.

Has a single "clear and obvious" mistake been overturned yet this season? I've seen a number of decisions overturned, but not one that I feel a ref should be expected to consistently see in real time.

I'm really not bothered by the stoppages, but today was definitely injustice, even with VAR.

I've only seen black and white decisions on offside and handball overturned so far. Both us and Man City had penalty claims today that any other league with VAR would've given.

Lifting what I said in the Spurs Chat thread, the PL/PGMOL have way overreacted to the way we saw VAR was applied in the WWC and Copa America, and set the bar for overturning errors far too high. Plus they're clearly terrified of questioning the integrity of the match official.

VAR won't be a success until a middle ground is found and sensibly applied.

England could have helped set the standard over the past year but they buried their heads and let the rest of the world set the lower bar. Now the PL looks rediculous enforcing a standard that is so far away from EVERY league and tournament in the world.

Wow - finally got home to see a replay. That's a penalty. Bad enough Dean didn't give it but how on earth Anthony Taylor looks at the vision and says "no clear error" is, in itself, a clear and obvious error.

Appointing Mike Dean to officiate anything above a subbuteo match is a clear and obvious error in itself

Not really, there’s nonsense VAR decisions every week in Italy and Germany

VAR is still very much in it’s infancy. We could have to wait a good couple of seasons before things settle down and as @Marty says, a sensible middle ground is found.
