I think the focus on "accidental" and "intentional" is such a big part of the problem. Maybe 1 in 100 is as deliberate as Henry's. Almost all handballs are accidental or unintentional. And that forces the officials to base a lot of their decision-making on guessing.

Think it would be much better if the focus was more on if it was avoidable at all, and even more importantly, if it creates an advantage.
I agree with this and a lot of the other comments here - the focus should be much on does it create an advantage or not, rather than who / where and how.

Based on current rules, yesterdays is fine even though it creates an advantage which leads the the goal.

Yet - if it was the goal scorer, and it merely brushes his arm, not changing the direction of the ball or creating any advantage at all, it would (or could) be ruled out.

It’s totally illogical.

They use everything but common sense in these situations.

I guess Joelinton must be a big intimidating guy on the pitch for refs because he seems to do what he wants with impunity whenever I’ve seen him. Same with Ryan Yates despite him being a proper shite clogger.

Having watched ref watch and seeing the Brighton V Arsenal "head but" penalty, well never in a million years. If that's a penalty, I'm all for the Gooners losing or dropping points but that's ridiculous. Even JFK had to be shot twice before calling it a day. There has to be a certain amount of give and take before decisions like that are made. Joelinton drops and then when the penalty is given big congrats and the second resurrection in 2000ish years.

If they don't want to treat accidental handball as a free kick then just treat it the same as when the ball hits the ref and give it as an uncontested drop ball.
That way the team in possession keep the ball but without the advantage of a free-kick, penalty, defensive players ten yards away etc.

Wow. How is that not a penalty for Forest?

Hand clearly away from the body and stops the flight of the ball? It’s almost like they’ve not given that to further support not giving the handball in our game yesterday.

The game is becoming a joke.

The problem with accidental handball is if it stops a goal being scored, i.e a direct shot on target but it hits the hand of a player trying to get his hand out of the way. I think the referee has to award the required free kick/penalty. It is called football for a reason. We just can't have the game played in black and white, there are grey areas that can't be covered by writing it down.

All the laws of the game should be covered with "If the on field referee deems the laws of the game have been broken sufficiently enough to be penalised and dealt with how he/she seems fit. EG does the on field referee think that an offside decision is to close to call ie 100% offside, the resulting goal stands. Do away with partially off side it has to be 100%

Yay. Can't wait to have audio reasoning of Mo Salah being given a penalty because he decided he wanted one and he plays for Liverpool.

Still of the belief that VAR should be in every round of a cup or not at all. Doesn't seem right certain games have it and others don't.

What happened to automated offsides in the prem? I thought the were supposed to come in after the first international break initially, I know it then got delayed further but we’re half way through the season now!

Honestly I'd rather it be in for a full season than part of it. Should be fair across the board and in use from the first match to the last.
