Do we reckon Parrott is a bit of a cocky toss-pot? Every time Jose talks about him it seems he's trying to bring him back down to earth.

Fergie gave players this choice. It separates your Giggs and Nevilles from your Sharpes and Morrisons. Talent without the right attitude at the top level is like losing 50% of your ability.

Yep. And I'm not saying that we shouldn't make the players choose if it's having an impact on their careers, but there seems to be a lot of stuff written on here about Parrott based on rumour and a dodgy newspaper article.

There was itk earlier in the thread that there was a disciplinary issue with him but it wasn't related to being on holiday with the coke dealer.

He doesn't give that impression on Insta. He often just posts pretty standard stuff showing love to his family etc on his story and football stuff on his main posts. No pics of him posing infront of cars or throwing up gang signs and all that shit. His bio says "grateful everyday". I think he gets it.

Clearly he has some friends who he probably shouldn't be associating with but he's been given a 3 year contract and has no doubt been asked what matters more to him at this point in his young career.

From that showing in the U23's, I would say he's showing his intent. I'd back him to kick on from here.

Yep. What @nicdic was alluding to was something quite separate from Dublin Gangsters and shady pals. The recent exclusion would have more to do with the discipline matter than the other stuff but it’s already two marks against a player who has an exciting opportunity in front of him.

Who wasn’t a cocky tosspot at 18? I was and I didn’t have his money, prospects or talent

Sadly, I still don’t... :(

Staying sharp playing for U23 semi regularly and being on our bench ready to contribute is a great place for an 18 year old to be. Hopefully he can get 20 minutes, rather than 4 stoppage time ones.

And the ITK was posted after lots of people on here were slating him for going away because they'd read a dodgy newspaper article, or heard a rumour. No-one actually knows what the disciplinary issue is at this stage. If he's now being considered for selection again it sounds like everyone has moved on.

At 18 that may seem tough but with the money at stake aligned with the fact that friendships change as lives do going into your 20s/30s/40s with family and work responsibilities changing your social circles he’d be mad not to focus on the

Maybe you’ll still get a chance at Song for Europe.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself, you're still a tosspot so be thankful for small mercies :cautious:

45 minutes under his belt. Ready for Wednesday.
Yesterday we decided it was good for him to play [for the U23s] but we decided before the game, with the relations we have with youth football, it was only for 45 minutes, to give him some match time but not 90 minutes because tomorrow he's going to be on the bench. It's a process.
Not ITK. Wasn’t a big stretch...

It’s all down to Troy. To succeed in the modern game you have to make sacrifices.

Who are we to judge him at this point? He has already got this far, and so he must have a certain amount about his character.

There will be a number of crossroads in his career ahead, and this is one of them. At this point I will just hope he wants it enough and makes the right decisions.

The world is too soft now.

Comments like ‘how would you feel if you had to cut out your our mates for work when you were 18’?

Grow a pair. People have had to make all sorts of sacrifices for work. I know people who haven’t been able to see their wife or kids for months because they had to work.

I don’t think disassociating with a known drug dealing family in sacrifice of earning millions of pounds playing football is a tough call.

Troy could even look at recent examples such as Raheem Sterling. He had a much tougher childhood, and he came through it and focused on football. He hasn’t done too badly.

Just to clarify, I am not slating Troy here. He is yet to prove himself either way and currently I will give him all my faith and support.

I don't agree with some of what you write, probably the because og the inflection rather than content, but what you say here is on the money. Earlier in the thread I had a brief debate with @Dillspur about how young Mr. Parrott needs to be a professional in how he conducts himself, something that can be very challenging for a newly crowned 18 year old, and decisions are made in an instant, without the benefit of years of experience in the envoronment he is in. He lives and works in a cauldron of personal talent and personal expectation, wrapped up in a cauldron of external professional expectation and peer pressure, and as you say "At this point I will just hope he wants it enough and makes the right decisions". I think we all want him playing NOW, I do, but I hope he listens to JM and his other coaches, I think they've seen this behaviour before, and know how to guide him in the direction that benefits his career and personal goals.

Jose has been honest on Troy with full explanation here. It seems that Troy is going to earn his chance now

Parrott talk (squawk? #page1joke) on Talksport in the next 3 hours. If you want to know Trevor Sinclair’s take on things (and who doesn’t?), you know where to go.

Bit worried about the hype now.
