Why wouldn't we just buy a LB to play LB?

Who's to say Nathan Aké isn't a LB? He's versatile and have played there before, a bit short for a centre back as well.
Mourinho's tactic so far has been to have one holding full back on the left - creating a defensive trio with the central guys. Leaving the right back opportunity to go more forward. If that's his plan then it probably wouldn't be wise to buy someone like Chilwell.
If we were spending serious money then Aké and Hakimi would be dream signings for me.

I'm bored so I've been thinking about next season's squad again (from a more rational lens (y)). With a fully fit squad, there will be no excuses for failure for the remainder of this season. It will be conducive to determining what areas of the squad need improving (and what players need axing). I think it will be evident that the glaring weakness in our starting eleven is our fullbacks, who are all below standard. We haven't had a dominate pairing since 16/17 and its no surprise our defensive record has become worse and worse. If we had quality on the flanks it would significantly reduce the load on our midfield and centrebacks.

We have had plenty of concrete RB links that seem realistic, with Aarons the one that seems the most likely to me. As for LB, I haven't seen many concrete links so I would love to create dialogue on some good, viable first choice LB targets (I'm personally not convinced on handing the reins over to Jamaal Lewis yet, considering he hasn't consistently been in Norwich's team).

I feel the current squad is best suited to a 4-3-3 given our supply of box-to-box midfielders and talented wingers. A three man midfield plays to our midfielders strengths and reduces the need for buying an imposing DM that we would need to control our midfield in a double pivot. With his quick and accurate passing, Winks has peformed admirably as the anchor in a midfield 3 for England and I think he could flourish in this role for us alongside Ndombele (if fit) and Lo Celso. [Not to mention Sissoko, Dele, Gedson, and Skipp as rotational CM options]. I also feel that Skipp would learn to excel in Winks' role, however I wouldn't be against looking for deals on players like PE Hojbjerg and Teun Koopmeiners (linked to Everton for 12m this summer) to challenge Winks for his spot.

I'd love for us to buy a young, elite CB to partner with Sanchez [think the likes of Upamecano, Dias, etc.] as much as the next guy, however this will likely have to be a priority for another window given the expectation of a relatively small budget and the pressing need for fullback churn. For this reason I think Toby and Sanchez will be greenlit for next season's partnership.

Unless we sell Lamela another AM / winger doesn't feel like a priority. There's been a lot of GK links as well but this also feels like a next summer problem as well — when Hugo will have one year left on his contract.

I'm also really not worried about us losing Kane, at all — for at least next season. There is no way Levy would let his cash cow leave in this environment, whether H wants to or not. I also strongly believe Dier and Rose are indisputable sells.

Ideally Campos comes in and uses his talent spotting expertise to find players to plug holes in the squad going forward. His first objective should be to find Kane's deputy on the cheap.

I'd happily have Campos onboard.

Be excellent if he could identify a few under the radar prospects for little moolah.

I’m not going to lie I’m buzzing to see him join but what is his actual job, will it be to take over negotiations from levy or just scout and recommend!

Stick my neck out, and purely speculation.

I can see Levy still being the savvy deal closer/fuck it right up lowballiing guy.
(Depending on what campos you're in)

Huge coup if this is happening. The issue for us hasn’t been failure to spend, it has been failure to identify hungry emerging talent that, importantly, fits in both short and long term. I’m 16/17 almost every key player was a player who was signed for their potential and who maximised its with us. Only players that can’t be attributed to exceptional scouting identification are Lloris (signed as France delta in), Alderweireld (already had a huge move to Atletico) and Kane (one of our own). Walker, Dier, Rose and Dele were all £5m or under and u21 when signed, Vertonghen Dembele Eriksen and Wanyama were under £15m and proven to a decent standard but for whom we represented a new higher standard, and Son the same but obviously was a bigger outlay at almost £30m.

Since then we’ve signed players who’ve had an impact of sorts, Llorente Lucas and Sanchez being the best examples, but I can’t think of one signing about whom we could say ‘wow, can’t believe we found this guy’.

Someone like Campos hopefully can address that, especially because looming is a far greater necessary to revert to those transfer tactics than ever before.

Not saying Campos is joining us but,
1) Football is one of the very few industries where people quit without another specific job lined up. But unless he is taking a mental break I doubt he is doing so unless he has at least one or two offers he is seriously considering.

2) Any club in contact with him (and I would wager it's multiple) will have to deny any deal to recruit him as he is still employeed by Lille and would likely end up violating his contract and possibly lose some due compensation.

3) I want this.
