I guess then the question is who are the other options. I assume Frank, Silva, Iraola perhaps. How do we rate it if it’s Poch verses these guys.

I don't think I'm being disingenuous by saying he hasn't pulled up any trees, I think we must have a different interpretation of that phrase.

I think he's done ok since leaving Spurs, solid 7/10 but has not been exceptional. I think we could certainly do a lot worse and the romance of it definitely makes it more attractive.

Romance goes out the window after the first bad defeat.

It was a fun time. But we know his ceiling. He failed to win a trophy with the best team in the league at the time.

It took years to recover the academy because our reputation in youth circle was terrible and nobody wanted to join us and be left in the Poch zone until they were 23.

He was tactically out schooled constantly in big games with us, PSG, and Chelsea.

On his CV and recent form alone he wouldn't be a candidate for the job but for sentiment, which imo is over rated.

He met with Man United whilst with us (and not just the Fergusson lunch), and also didn't hesitate to mug us off in his very first interview with Chelsea. Which doesn't hugely bother me - but the romance and sentiment carries no weight imo.

But besides all of that - where is the joined up thinking?

Do Munn / Lange appoint him? Or does he get here and decide if he appoints them?

Does Paratici come back? Do they gel?

We'd be better off to re-assess in the summer with better candidates.

But I'm sure Levy will be reactive and the cycle of chaos will continue.

With Poch, I think a lot forget how much he was really hamstrung in the transfer market whilst waiting for the "game changer" stadium.

A net spend of approx £20m per year over 5 years and around a third of that was in the summer before he was sacked (yes, we know those choices were bad).

I don't know if him coming back will work out, but I do know that that it was the only time over the past 30 plus years when we were constantly challenging for things.

I’m a manchild and Iraola sounds like areola and for that reason he’s my #1 choice and no I cannot be swayed this is ironclad

Im not really sure where i'm at with managers currently tbh. I'm very skeptical Ange can turn it round, I'm not completely sold on Iraola even tho i do like him and Poch is not the messiah but he certainly did an incredible job which we haven't managed to replicate since he's left.

The worry is bringing in someone who punches above but has no experience managing European fixtures alongside a very busy league schedule. I suppose the advantage of bringing in lots of U21 wonderkids means you can in theory rotate comfortably in the league. Might undo someone like Iraola - though perhaps that's naive. Frankfurt's manager mentioned further back looks like what should be targeting. Doesn't have PL experience which is a sticking point for a lot, especially when they are expected to perform and adapt so quickly.

I don't think levy will go back to poch, he has shown that already. Iraola - would his team crumble under our fixture list this season like ange's? Hard to know what is the best option.

Well we won’t be in Europe next season so will have a pretty chill fixture list.

Do you, like me snigger when you watch West Ham play and....Areola is in goal :sneaky::LOL:

Areola playing for Iraola to complete the set. That’s the dream, baby. Vic is out and Kinsky can stay because it sounds like kinky. I don’t make the rules.

I think I remember reading something during the summer Ange was hired that there were certain members of the board who were dead against Poch coming back.

Poch also inherited a squad that had the likes of Lloris, Walker, Rose, Vertonghen, Dembele, Eriksen, Kane in it's ranks already. Ange had nowhere near as much fortune when taking over the scruff built before him.

I'm still totally Ange in.

most of those players where playing very poor before Poch came in. Half that list fans wanted to sell under AVB.

When poch inherited the squad, Rose was a player that fans laughed at when Poch said he would make him an England player. No one was sure if Kane would make the grade. Majority of fans didn’t rate Dembele. And eriksen was just a prospect. They all had potential, but poch helped them realise their potential. Ange inherited a decent enough squad but were now 14th in the league. Not all anges fault but some of his doing.

Issue we might have is that Chelsea will be all over him at this rate.
Maresca is irritating some fans atm, but I can't see him losing his job anytime soon. If any club will become the first to hire two managers at once though, it would be Chelsea.

Ange inherited a decent enough squad?
Since his appointment we've brought in Maddison, Van de Ven, Vicario, Gray, Bergval, Johnson, Tel, Odebert, Dragusin, Danso, Kinsky and Solanke, that doesn't suggest anything of the kind to me.
