stupid rule it was a accident.. 26-0 ended like that.. not my favorite player infact i find him arrogant at times but still someone winning the us open now without ending his 26-0 streak is a illegitamite champion in my eyes but whatever i guess.

I don't understand though, all those times players like Serena and Kyrgios verbally assault the judges, and don't get suspended. At least Djokovic's incident was clearly an accident.

Verbal abuse - for which both Serena and Kyrgios have been punished - are not as dangerous as hitting a ball at a linesperson, whether the destination was intentional or not. (And speed is really not a factor.) Unfortunate, but the right decision.

I don't know mate, some of the things Serena has said (like threatening to hurt a judge), or Kyrgios spitting at the direction of the chair umpire (even if covid wasn't a thing back then) are IMO more serious than a ball accidentally hitting a judge.

I do think it was the right decision to default Nole, as it's important to make it clear that the rules apply to anyone. Hope he learns his lesson, but it's really not that easy to learn new ways to react during moments of frustration.

Tell me about it. Or, better still, explain it to the crumpled frames that I've binned over the years.

Let's just say I'm very glad there are no line judges in the way at the level I play at...

@ralvy I was thinking similar re Serena threatening to shove balls down umpires' throats, but then remembered we couldn't possibly sanction her as she's a mother and a role model :cautious:

Yeah, I'm no expert but dominating the spin is definitely key. The eastern grip has been enough for me to create good spin and power, it also depends of course of swinging with your whole body (stance and rotating your waste). You're trying the semi-western grip I suppose, let me know how that works for you.

I've found out that volleys and smashes are also a measure of how high or low confidence I'm felling (well, and also a measure of how well I've been training, haha). Does it works similar for you?

Yeah, college tennis is definitely fun to watch, but I suppose is very different playing when you're holding a scholarship than playing out there in the real world, where a bad streak can let you out of business. I think is also difficult to keep a scholarship with all the partying and temptations that young people face there, I would guess it demands a lot of self-discipline to not get kicked out of the roster.

Yeah absolutely. I mean I want to have the ability to flatten out some shorts but want to hit with enough spin to really hit the ball. And yeah that body movement is probably something I need to work on, like I find hitting inside out so much easier than cross court for some reason. Well I was going to try a western as I use a semi-western at the moment and I probably hit with more spin than I think but not to the extent where I can consistently hit the ball hard with margin for error.

And yes 100% that, especially smashes! Haha.

I definitely think it's tough. I've heard a few stories of people wanting to make it but realising they didn't quite have the level of dedication needed and that's not because they didn't work hard but it's because I think in a lot of cases you have to really live the life of putting everything into your tennis. It's incredible how much you have to stand out against so many other talented players to make it to a good professional level.

Actually feel sorry for Djokovic. I'm not his biggest fan but I don't dislike him either. Yes he shows anger on the court, but he also shows good sportsmanship too, such as warm embraces at the net in defeat and applauding opponents good shots and such.

I mean rules are rules but I'd feel sorry for anyone who's disqualified from a grand slam for such an incident. Then again, if he hit her eye and she was blind in that eye (however dramatic that sounds) I doubt he'd even be thinking about the missed opportunity so with that in mind you have to fully respect the decision. He's damn unlucky to have hit her in the throat though :ROFLMAO: It must hurt for him as with no Federer or Nadal his name was practically on the trophy.

Who are the favourites on the mens side now, Thiem and Wawrinka? Is the latter still in it?

Also, I saw that line judge has received hate mail and abuse regarding her son I think it was who lost his life 12 years ago. Messages such as 'you'll be joining him soon'. I fucking hate people sometimes.

Stan didn't enter cos of the virus situation in the US. Thiem and Medvedev are the two favourites, with Zverev close behind. But Auger-Alliasime is playing well (playing Thiem when Serena finishes on Arthur Ashe quite soon), likewise Shapovalov, and de Minaur is also having a great tournament. It's quite open now.

Oh damn, I thought I saw him in the draw a few days back. Are Thiem and Medvedev on opposite sides of the draw? Would be surprised if it was Zverev, has the tools but his rise as halted a little bit. Dimitrov still in?

Thiem & Medvedev due to meet in the semi, with Zverev in the other half. Dimitrov went early; not playing well these days.
