You trust this @epllion guy?
He seems to be getting a lot right. His account was supposedly hacked last week. I do find the 4m hard to believe. Poss 500k plus add ons up to 4m. Hope we have a big sell on clause but I doubt we’ll make anything on him. He says Eriksen has signed a 3yr contract with release clause. We shall see.

The debate about our treatment of more talented players is interesting but ultimately futile because, unless we're with them every day, we don't know how individual players behave and, most importantly, what is between their ears.

I wasn't a bad player as a kid, and possibly could have made a living from the game; four of my local contemporaries, who were on the same level as me, or possibly below, played in what was then Division 1. But they, and I, were nothing compared to one lad who had everything. He was magnificently talented and could literally do anything. On top of that, he listened to his coaches and worked tirelessly for the team. He was on Spurs books and was a star in his age group. I was sure he would play for England. But he didn't make it. Why? Nobody apart from him and the Spurs coaches at the time really know, but I suspect that he just didn't have 'the right attitude', whatever that is. 'Mental toughness'? 'A winning mentality?'

The most talented players don't necessarily get to the top. The biggest part in realising the dream of being a Premier League or international footballer isn't what skill you have or even how you apply it. That is a vital base but it is only a start. The most important thing is what pushes you; your drive and determination. For want of a better expression, your 'heart'. The fact that you will make it no matter what; nothing will stop you from achieving your dream. You can be as talented as Messi, but without that you'll be playing in a pub team yet.

We all had high hopes for Marcus Edwards, but it looks like it won't happen for him. There are no doubt a number of contributory factors but, ultimately, it's because of him.
Great post.

Also for all the teeth gnashing about Poch not giving the skilled players a chance I don't really think we've had that many to be honest. Edwards went off the boil and that's been written about enough but I don't think there's really any others that truly jump off the page to me. People mention Shashoua and the likes but while it's harsh I genuinely don't see the ability there to justify being played in a club at this level with our ambitions. There's a couple young ones that I have hopes for in Markanday, etc. but I don't feel they've really shown enough to justify selection in the 1st team.

Truth is for all the criticism we've yet to be left with egg in our face over a youth player leaving even once yet.

Although pages upon pages of virtual ink get spilled over the issue each and every time one of them does leave/periodically throughout the season. I can quickly think of players like Veljkovic, Pritchard, Bennetts, and Griffiths who each drew tons of ire when they left. Veljkovic and Pritchard both got playing time after leaving, but have also shown why they weren't up to Poch's standard as well. Bennetts and Griffiths who were both very talented left and many said there should be an exodus with the reason being that Poch doesn't play them so they should go elsewhere where they'll play except as it turns out they both went to clubs with a history of playing youth products and neither of them received even a single minute of playing time.

I do think Poch could do more to integrate some youth products and should be giving more playing time around. I think the criticism of not playing KWP at RB given how poor Trippier and Aurier were at times last season is completely fair.

That said I think a large chunk of the criticism is very over the top.

Edwards has an injury. He’s had it for a few months. He’s being treated by the Spurs medical team.

eyoma is also injured by the way - i've seen a few insinuating that he's been overlooked for a place on the tour but he's been out for a while now.

I’m sure @Breezer could clear up the situation with Marcus

He currently has an injury that is being treated. He played with that injury whilst on loan.

Unfortunately his days at Spurs look numbered. Pochettino won’t communicate with him and made it clear he has no future at Spurs and Edwards doesn’t want to stay either (wants first team football). He is happy to drop to the Championship to play.

Whether a deal can be done with anyone is as much down to Levy as anything else. So far no team is willing to meet Levy’s valuation.

Questions I have from today’s game:

1. Is skipp injured?
2. Could Georgiou make a Rose style move to full back, would he even want to and could he be good enough?

I’ve had similar thoughts about Georgiou, he’s filled in there a few times in friendlies I think. I’d prefer a natural left footed there that KWP moving over.

Anthony immediately gives natural balance and athleticism but he wasted some good opportunities to deliver in the final third.

First time I’ve actually seen what Skipp is about. Looked to have it all in his locker, against a pretty decent midfield as well. Thought Georgiou held onto the ball too long a fair few times.

Was Tanganga close to leaving last year? @S.Mouse! claims it but I don’t trust him, at all.

I didn’t say he was close to leaving, pal. I said that Eyoma was taken on tour ahead of him.

Some really exciting performances today. Skipp Parrott Tanganga excellent. KWP was decent. Georgiou was pretty frustrating got in some good positions but wasted them and horribly flat footed for juve goal. Didn’t really see enough of others to judge though Roles had a few nice touches. But based on that Parrott must now be under serious consideration for the llorente role, linked up so well with Son.

So Harvey white?

Never heard of him before was there a reason for the poch call up?

he's a good talent and was one of our best players last season in a very good u18 side, he's a bit of a dead ball specialist in the james ward-prowse mould but a left footed version. not sure about him being taken to fill in at left back though as whilst he's played there a couple of times it's not really his position but it's a good experience for him.

i think he probably was. he, like a lot of others, have spent far too long in the u23s and as a result end up going through the motions, it looked quite likely that he'd leave but he eventually signed a one year deal this summer. regardless of how he does on this tour though i still think he'd be better off getting a good season under his belt somewhere else this season.
