Dembele would be absoultley perfect for us .. Would be ecstatic if we sign him .. Really hope we have genuine interest in him.

Just to add a balance, in fairness to Steklenberg, Roma`s defence was utter shite last season.

I suspected it might have been, and Lyon's was too, apparently. I think he's OK, but with Ajax he did have a worrying propensity to spill the ball after making a save, which is liable to be punished much more severely in the EPL than Holland. We could do worse, but his only real advantage over Brad is age (Brad showed the other day he can get off his line pretty smartly when required). He won't do totally nutty stuff either, but Gomes is better in just about every other respect.

And why do Roma want shot after a season? (Or, why does he want out of Roma?)

I would rather Dembele, has demonstrated a bit of everything since moving into midfield for Fulham.

Great quality on the ball and can glide past players with ease. That's one of the things I think we lacked under Harry...not enough driving forward from central areas of the pitch that disrupts the oppositions shape and can create more room for others. Too many times last season the opposition were able to sit deep and defend relatively comfortably.

I've watched Dembele closely and his ability to surge forward like that could be a real weapon for us in terms of creating that space for the likes of Bale, VDV etc.

His physical presence and appetite for the tackle is impressive to. In a midfield three I think he could be the business for us.

Don't think we need to replace Modric with a vastly inferior player albeit who's more similar.

You make valid points and I guess it's hard to gauge the dynamic of the midfield until that type of player is slotted in.

I agree totally on the attributes of Dembele who certainly can hold his own in this league compared to other top midfileders but I do like what Allen can provide all well which if you look at the stats, he's pretty mpressive across the board in terms of winning possession back and obviously distributing the ball well.

Both would be very nice indeed but that's not going to happen.

Do you think I'm reading too much into all of this? I think I'm going to have a lock down... er... I mean lie down...

Akqayid asked JJ if the thing which is moving is on lockdown:

Yes it is and there are reasons for that which will become apparent.

Which leads me to think it's not Adebayor he's talking about.

@jetsetyid and the whole of twitter sighs a sigh of relief. Thanks fella! But it is on lock down isn't it?

Oh for sure, Allen has plenty of talent and recycling possession effectively is certainly his strong point. Overall though Dembele is definitely the guy I would be going for.

Really?

Stek was immense when he wasn't injured or suspended. Same situation as Lloris; the defense in front of him was shocking. In Stekelenburg's case probably worse. Kjaer and Jose Angel are unbelievably shit.

As I said, the observation was based on watching him at Ajax. In 07-08 Gomes was hugely superior. Our scouts concluded likewise—at least, the ITK at the time said so.

I recall that most of SC felt it was criminal negligence for Spurs to have missed out on a CB called Kjaer a couple of years ago. Is this the same one?

To be fair, we were offered him and Cavani for 20. So Cavani for 20 would have been a steal :D

And no I don't know if that rumor is true :cautious:

It stemmed from Palermo's president from memory that we were close to concluding a deal.

If only eh....

Agreed. He has been keeping Vorm and Krul out of the Dutch side. Poor season last season by all accounts, but a top class keeper. Slight fear he's doing a Gomes. But to fit in with the MOneyball approach, and buying damaged goods with a reduced price in hope they can come good again, all of Stek, Lloris and Cesar fit the bill perfectly.

It's just like Groundhog day with Leandro and whilst I would like nothing better than for him to lead the line for us next season, I just cannot see for the life of me a deal being brokered after all the pissing around we've done in the past.

Even if he signs for us I'd still expect him to issue post-match statements about how he has no interest in playing for us. It's obviously his new mantra.

I'd hope we aren't basing our signings off of how good they were 3-4 years ago...

But I understand your point. I have seen him more recently and while he has weaknesses he's comparable to Lloris. He's more affordable though, and if the Cesar-to-Roma rumors are to be believed (another player who I would take) he'll be available.

Kjaer was a prospect back then but it was the Cavani+Kjaer deal we missed out on. Seriously, even if Kjaer was terrible that deal would have been worth it. Kjaer was very mistake prone at Roma, poor on one on ones, poor positioning, marking, and inconsistent. Had a strong Euros though, probably because of Agger (amazing player IMO) next to him.

Indeed. Am I becoming forgetful in my old age or did we not plump for Gomes and it was between the two a few years back? Of course, it could be said we might have chosen the wrong keeper. I dunno. Stekelenburg (no need for that name either, far too long to keep typing out) always seems solid enough when playing for Dutchland but that's a different beast.

We were apparently looking at half the keepers in Europe, including Benny's nut job Cameroon team-mate Kameni, compared to whom Gomes radiates a Zen-like calm. I think Skeletor would be OK and certainly wouldn't be looking to chuck my legs off the nearest tall building if we signed him, but I don't think he'd be an advance on what we have.

Maarten Stekelenburg will sign for the Tottenham for a fee in the region of 9million pounds. #thfc #football

Brash?

Wtf does that knob know..... He's no different to all the so called jumped up itk'ers on twatter making things up as they go along. They wait till a player is linked in the media then try to pass it off as their own info by adding a bit of salt & pepper to the linked player!!!
