FBs must be our priority, they are so key to the modern game and when you look at the teams that are doing well they have dynamic FBs who can significantly contribute to the attacking aspect of the game

If we’ve signed Sessegnon to be a LB then fucking play him, if not sign one. And I like Foyth, and his Corluka-like attacking contribution but he is CB playing RB and always will be

Fullbacks and a defensive midfielder please. Not holding my breath when it comes to the January window and can see us ending up doing nothing but has to be an absolute priority in the summer.

Bored of seeing our current crap stable of fullbacks try and out do each other in terms of general levels of shiteness.

Proper well rounded DM needed, not just someone who puts out/prevents fires but offers nothing on the ball.

Figured, but a forward line of Son, Kane, Depay would be enticing

It’s not the top priority because we are so wretched at so many spots, but we really do need another pacy forward.

It’s clear that Poch doesn’t trust Lucas (and he definitely blows very hot and cold, so somewhat understandable) - but we really need somebody there so we can play an effective 4-3-3.

In regards to selling players for profit, it really is a tough one. In summer '16 our squad was drastically rising in value, and by summer '17 most were at their peak relative value, which coincided with transfer fees exploding. We could have sold Lloris, Toby, Verts, Walker (we did), Rose and Dier for vast sums. Dembele less so, although for a little more than we ultimately did, Eriksen would have gone for a huge figure as would have Dele, Lamela as long as he was fit at the point of selling, as he was coming off his best years with us and would have got a good price. Kane has probably retained his value and would go for a similar figure now, and Son is the only one of the main crop probably worth more now than then. Of course no way should we have been looking to get rid of all of them, or even any of them if things were going well and everyone was happy and new contracts were being signed. But somehow it all fell apart. We clearly didn't get the balance quite right.

It would have been more profitable to have sold Trippier the season before we did, and the summer just gone we'd have got a good fee for Moura as his stock was high. Not saying we should have done. But yes, where we are now it would evidently have been good to at least have sold a few at the top of their game when their value was clearly drastically inflated. Look how Coutinho and Liverpool played out. So I see the merit in selling a few select players at certain times while their stock is high or if their contracts are running down below two years as others have said, while prioritizing a few select players who are the heart and spine of the team - Kane being the obvious example. And I think thats what we thought we were doing with Walker, but we did not replace him well. And that is where this strategy falls down - when you fail to replace. Indeed we have failed on two fronts. We didn't capitalise on our star players' when it would have been most profitable to do so, which is forgivable because its impossible to know when this is for sure (although we should probably have seen the writing on the wall sooner than we did and not let their contracts run down to zero). But also, we just simply haven't replaced them well, if at all.

Levy probably found himself between a rock and a hard place, not wanting to be the 'selling club' in order to keep the team together, which was proving profitable in any case, but also to refresh it with an influx of money, and of course building a new stadium at the same time. It simply was not possible to achieve the perfect balance. Sadly we are now suffering, lacking the finances to properly rebuild with the players we ideally need.

Desperately need a right back, I hear Walker at City is pretty good, or that Trippier at Atletico.

The state of Aurier, wed be better registering Poch and getting him out there. It might benefit us having someone else in charge of subs too

CDM is a priority for me, get the midfield right and we'll win most of the time.

I like Sissoko and at times his pace and power is incredible. But he is not a CDM for me, slows the play sorting his feet out and is not a great passer.

Who do you guys suggest?

Dream Florentino Luis.

But we’ll probably be able to attract a WIP who will peak in two years’ time.

Watched him yesterday, need more time but looks like he could have the best of Sissoko and Winks combined :D

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but had a thought:

We always hear about not selling your best players, which is a "duh, no kidding" statement.

But I was thinking how at one point Eriksen, Jan and Toby were probably worth around 200 million between them.

And now we may lose all three for nothing.

Not only that but their performances have dropped off badly.

You could probably chuck Rose (who wasn't far off Walker a few years ago) and Dier (who United were sniffing around at a big number if I recall) in as well.

Maybe there is something to be said for selling high?

At least, always holding onto your best players is not as clear cut in my mind as it was before this year.

Dier was rumoured to be interesting Man U at the £50m mark and Trippier I am certain we could have flogged at a premium after the World Cup. Add Danny Rose into the mix in and around the time where he spouted that nonsense to The Sun and as you said understanding when someone has reached their peak skill wise for what they can give us and when their value/ stock is high still brings with it it's huge benefits.

You going to have to wait until the final weeks of August 2020....just before the window closes when all the great deals are to be had and when the bigger teams have done their buying or else they let you do all the spade work and swoop in...like chelsea did remember... also you do know that clubs get desperate around that time to sell....thats also the time when Levy is at his brilliant best....

Gosh i cringed as i wrote that :cautious:.

I think he is very green. Look how he fared in a struggling Fulham team last year. Probably very risky to put him in there when the team’s playing as badly as it.

yet came on against RSB, created a goal and on several other occasions found himself in acres of space... I know RSB were shit but Sess is clearly an intelligent player, looking for space to get into and then being productive with the ball. I think he’ll be superb in a wingback position. The only issue with WB’s is barring the frozen out KWP, none of the others are good enough going forward.

I think it would also have brought howls of 'No ambition' and 'Selling club'. Times have changed though and players will be looking at Bosmans. If we're going to get any funds in from transfers we have to be prepared to sell players with 2 - 3 years left on their contracts and when they're in good form. I can hear the moaning already, but that's the way it is.

You see some of the bigger European sides selling in 1 sometimes 2 quality players for very good money and then reinvesting the money in the squad. This is a good model but much harder these days as kids now cost a very high premium.

I think the problem is Poch has sat on his hands for too long. And now it's all culminated.

Mistake #1

When Wanyama did his ACL he didn't sign anybody. Should have been looking for the very best replacementthe next day

Mistake #2

Sold Dembele and didn't replace him. Players must have been a bit bewildered that our best player ( although injury prone) was let go in that manner.

Mistake #3

Selling Trippier. Most of us agreed with this at the time but has been proven now to be disastrous. Again no replacement, we needed Foyth and one other, preferably a top class one with a bit of experience.

What I loved about 'Arry was that he was constantly looking to upgrade every position. I just don't see that from Poch, there's no urgency to be the best. If he does stay longer he needs to start getting a bit more ruthless otherwise I doubt he'll ever win much.
