Pochettino would have known it would have made it look daft after previously saying otherwise, as well as his constant requests for a rebuild in the past two years, but ultimately he knows that he needs results in the short term first from this group of players and if he doesn't get them he might not be around in January anyway.

The Spurs manager knows that January could well bring some movement. The players who wanted to leave in the summer will likely still want to depart through the doors in the winter if the opportunity presents itself.

Pochettino admitted as much once the cameras were turned off.

Pretty informative article from AG I thought. I hope the good mood isn't just a PR stunt.

Seems sensible. Poch is trying to get everyone on side for the next ten weeks, and also needs to present an image to clubs we may look to do business with (both incoming and outgoing) that we aren't desperate. Public comments about transfers rarely reflect what is actually is actually happening behind the scenes, it's all posturing.

yeh I think Poch was just showing support for his players just prior to the Watford game so as not to be seen as being non supportive

we'll see come January how much truth there is in his statement

That Tielemans for Leicester looks a player. Shame Poch didn’t rate him what with Eriksen not signing a new contract.
Yeah, but we don't know that Poch didn't rate him. It was reported (I think by that Belgian journo that always has it right) that YT wanted assured playing time in anticipation of a summer transfer. So it made sense to go there.

It seems there have been a few players that Poch supposedly doesn't rate that have turned out to be very good players. The problem is he is stubborn and clearly won't move from a select few players.

I can't see how he wouldn't have been guaranteed time when our mess of a midfield consisted of Sissoko and Winks being run into the ground.

There’s some proper joined up thinking going on at Liverpool behind the scenes. I hope Levy has read this because I would hope we are this organised but I have my doubts.

Comment: What Manchester United would do for a sporting director like Liverpool’s Michael Edwards
https://theathletic.com/1286712/201...ing-director-like-liverpools-michael-edwards/

for example, who does our loans? They have a dedicated person.

That’s all about the work done by Julian Ward (loan pathways and football partnerships manager) in finding the right place for him.

Yeah, and we heard from ITK that Poch didn't rate Ndombele the year before. Salt and all. I guess you can chose what to believe from what amounts to hearsay. But 'knowing' would mean that Poch says it himself, publicly, from his mouth to your ears is my point. Everything else is hearsay and shouldn't be taken as gospel ie salt need be applied.

That said, I don't rate Poch's eye for a player anyway and never have since his 1st year benching and 2nd year stationing of Dembele out on the RW. And we know how that turned out. Anyone that couldn't see that doesn't have an eye for a player or has too rigid an expectation of roles.

So it's conceivable he didn't rate all these players. But considering the output and performances from the alternatives I'd have to wonder what exactly he is looking for and if, perhaps, he isn't being a little per(s)nickety.

I can't see how he wouldn't have been guaranteed time when our mess of a midfield consisted of Sissoko and Winks being run into the ground.
'Tis true. And an extra body in the MF, particularly one that could control a ball and actually pass it along the floor, last season would have been quite handy. Who knows what's behind all of this but on the ground it's not good.

Will be interesting to see how much a new manager gets given to spend if/when Poch leaves.

Funnily enough, I'm actually expecting Levy to be a bit more liberal with the purse strings going forward. Perhaps that's delusional on my part, but the fact we spent so much this summer and would also have spent a lot more if we could have, gives me cause for hope.

I wouldn’t be too optimistic. He very recently said we still won’t be able to compete with our rivals in the transfer market to The Trust.

I think this is about to change, not because we'll suddenly have more money to spend, but because our rivals will be West Ham, Southampton and Burnley.
