in all seriousness, i would love for us to go for Upamacano.
He looks good, can't see it happening myself

If Pochettino has to look in the mirror and change his ways, then the same bloody well goes for Danny LevyLevy never liked January transfer window much...
Not calling anyone out in particular but I never understand the “can’t see it happening” phrase always peddled about. Why can’t you see it? Is it just a gut feeling?
Seeing as I did it last about Upamacano I'll answer, He was being touted for around 50-60 million in the summer with a release clause of supposedly 80 million, there's rumours it falls next summer but that's not confirmed. Leipzig are sponsored by Red Bull so I don't see them being in a position where they need the money and they're 2 points off the top of Bundesliga with a Champions League group which looks favourable for them to qualify. So with all that taken into account I can't see Leipzig being willing to sell in January. So I don't see it as a failure on Spurs behalf if we don't go in for him, I just see it as unrealistic especially when you take into account how much we spend on Sanchez which hasn't worked out yet.
Thanks very much for this reply. Definitely makes sense regarding his availability. I’m guilty of posting without plausible context sometimes myself but I just always feel like that phrase is just code for “FFS Levy” or something.
Exactly.I’m sure the club has the intention to sort a lot out in January but I’m sceptical the reality will match it
I want Upamecano just so we can sing his name to the tune of bap bap americano
I agree with the point that @razzmaster made earlier in the thread that players with 6 or 18 months remaining on their contracts are much more attainable in January than other players. In the case of the former it's their clubs' last chance to get any fee at all for them, and in the case of the latter group it's their clubs' last chance to get full market value before their contracts run down to one year remaining. Even still, clubs can hold out an not want to lose their players in the middle of the season, but it's significantly more likely when there's a strong financial incentive for the club to sell.
The list that @Tottenhamboy85 posted had some good young players that we've been linked with at positions of need. Even if Leipzig won't let go of Upamecano, for instance, I'd happily take Benoit Badiashile considering that IMO we need a left-footed CB more than a right-footer anyway, and given how highly he's rated. Monaco look to be having another mediocre season so I'd be surprised if they were as hesitant to sell as Leipzig, who are in a title hunt.
Similarly, if Sporting don't want to let go of Bruno, I'd also happily take Dani Olmo at a significantly lower price. For the DM position, we've been linked with Berge for years and many on SC have touted Sangare as a big talent. Doesn't seem like there are any players we've been linked with whose contracts are running down for the RB position, so that may be something of a struggle.
Big question for me is whether Poch rates any of the players whose clubs might be willing to let go of them for financial reasons, or whether he'll insist on a relatively short list of players under long contracts whose clubs may be adamantly opposed to losing their top talents in the middle of the season. I'm sure that Levy is willing to spend, it's just a question of whether the players Poch targets will be available at all.

My concern with Berge was always the mobility issue given his size. It’s so fast and hectic in the PL these days, you’ve got to have really mobile players in there, especially at DM.We should stay clear of Berge. I was one of his supporters previously but having watched a couple of games lately I'm convinced he doesn't and never will have what it takes to play for us as he is basically Tom Huddlestone. Same strengths and weaknesses.
I think Olmo is a good replacement for when Eriksen leaves us and Badiashile seems a terrific prospect. My biggest concern is RB however as there is a lack of really good targets out there right now. I'm definitely not convinced by Atal and think he will prove to be a mistake as he's very suspect defensively and I'd rather go for Denzel Dumfries at PSV.
