Yes, I meant Diawara. But to clear things up on Ndombele, who I am very familiar with, I hope you don't have expectations of him actually being like Kante. He is not. He hunts but not incessantly like Kante. He is definitely more #8 than Kante will ever be. Pairing of him and Rabiot would leave your MF with an adventurousness with which I don't feel Poch would be comfortable. In the PL I do believe Ndombele would need a more defensive-natured partner. It wouldn't have to be an out and out DM but it probably couldn't be Rabiot unless it was Pep-style or purely countering.
Ok, gotcha. So, for example... if he was playing for France, he would do better having a player like Kante behind him playing that DM role. Which, I guess makes him more like our Dembele then... albeit stylistically different. Thanks for the insights. Much appreciated.

Not surprised at all we are trying for Ndombele. Poch wants us to aim high. You have to try. Hence why we went for De Jong last year.

Obviously I hope we have adequate back up options in place too.

Think it’s been reported that he is desperate to get in the France team for Euro 2020. If true, Hugo could be a big advantage.

I honestly think we have a chance with Ndombele. It depends on what other teams do, but there's a chance.
If we don't try we are always going to fail.

Fair play to the club for trying but deep down I think everyone knows how this story will end....we've seen it countless other times. Truth is, we are way down the pecking order when it comes to wages, agent fee's etc and that isn't going to change under ENIC. I don't particularly blame ENIC for it as it's simply a case of other owners having extremely deeper pockets than them.

Yes no doubt the new stadium will help but it isn't going to make a difference when the likes of Madrid, Barca, PSG, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and even Liverpool (paid the most in agent fee's last year) of this world are interested in the same players as we are.
Pretty much the law of the jungle and the Lions eat first and then we feed off whatever's left over.

I'll only be confident in the above situation when/if they club is sold to an owner with real financial might and the will to spend on the squad to set us to continually challenge.

We've also seen times where we were successful. Modric, Berbatov, Eriksen, even Bale, were all very sought after players
You could argue the amount of times we've failed is considerably larger, but I think that is the case with every club

We have to try. Now is the time. We are CL semifinalists. That more important than the stadium imo. That is what gets you in the map

Surely Liverpool don't want ndombele? They have just spent 50 & 60mill on fabinho and Keita, and have Henderson and wijnaldum.

Yeah, but none of those players has the ability to resist pressure with the ball nor commit players in attack. They are passers (in function not necessarily Pirlos) and harriers but not proper MFers. A press resistant MF would add a whole 'nother dimension to their game. It would allow them to actually play football instead of focusing on the quick-strike vertical game.

I think times have changed. Modric, Berbatov, Eriksen and Bale were great signings but 3 of those were over a decade ago.
Things are much more different and competitive now and clubs are keen to get in players with great potential early because they know otherwise the price will rocket so focus on hoovering up talent before they really hit the big time. The Neymar transfer hasn't helped the situation as set a marker for fees in the market and suddenly clubs are eager to get in before things get extremely expensive.

For what it’s worth Mouhamed Bouhafsi who is Tier 1 for French football said no discussions had taken place with Liverpool but didn’t comment on juventus or Spurs. So make of that what you will.

When they bought Keita that is exactly what they bought him for imo. It's one of the reasons a lot of us wanted him at Spurs as a Dembele replacement. Hasn't worked out quite as well as they hoped (but still might, who knows) and I would expect we would see a similar dip in dribbling and ball progression if we were to somehow coup a move for N'Dombele.

Ndombele would be an incredible signing with huge intent especially being one of the most sought after players.

I genuinely believe he would be interested in playing for us under Poch and with the many promising factors we have (London, Champions League, Stadium, French connections etc).

All depends if levy would stump up the asking fee which is rumoured to be £75m and if we can match the wages being offered to him by other clubs.

Two major stumbling blocks unfortunately. But if we do manage to pull this off this would be a major major signing! The lad has it all and at such a young age can easily become a monster like Mousa Dembele.

Either way I have a good feeling this summer Poch will get at least 1-2 players from his wish list ??

I find this take somewhat curious. Specifically why anyone would have expected Keita to perform those duties when he didn't actually perform those in the BL. RBL was a purely, solely, counter-attacking team and perhaps he may have shown a glimpse or two of receiving and progressing the ball but it was mostly in transition. In fact, his last year there was made very difficult precisely because other teams said "fine, yall have the ball and do something with it" and ultimately they were not at their best with those tactics. Now I admit to not seeing him as much as Ndombele but when I did see him he never struck me as the all around MFer that Ndombele does.

But I still take your point about Ndombele curbing his enthusiasm for the extra touch in the MF. He will have to recognize that the more he gives the ball up the more time he will get on the ball. But he will not be dispossessed by 1 player and that's what you want. That said, I am not all in on the transfer savior thing with Ndombele either. I think we could go about strengthening out MF a few different ways with most of them significantly less expensive than doling out 70M on 1 admittedly very promising player.

Want Ndombele. Would give our CB's that man to pass to who can hold onto the ball and slip out of pressure with his dribbling. Not nearly at the same level (or cost) would be Samassekou out of RB Salzburg. Biggest drawback for him is he's a smaller guy.

As well as his press-resistant ability, dribbling and driving runs, Ndombele is good at dispossessing players and making key interceptions on the defensive end to quickly turn into counter transitions. Great eye for a pass and quick distribution, and not bad with his weaker foot.

He could play with either Winks or Sissoko, 'cause he has some of the qualities of each of those players, and has attacking advantages over both.

Dream signing if we can do it...and I know it's a big if.

My shortlist:

Backup goalkeeper:
Nick Pope, David Button, Neil Etheridge

Right back:
Youssuf Atal, Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Left back:
Ferland Mendy, Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Chilwell

Centre back:
Joachim Andersen

Central Midfielder:
Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Sander Berge, Amadou Diawara, Adrien Rabiot, Sandro Tonali

Attacking midfielder:
Jack Grealish, Pepe, Jack Clarke, Dan James, David Brooks

Backup striker:
Max Kruse

Literally one from each of these positions with the seeming departures of Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wanyama, a Dembele replacement, potentially Eriksen, Llorente & Janssen & I'd be well happy with all things considered. Plenty of gettable talent out there this time around withnthe squad definitely needing reinforcements.
