Surely have our club function within its means is a better long term thing for the club than an owner throwing £200m-£300m and our finances not being sustainable long term right?

Those owners mentioned won't keep pumpin money into their clubs and eventually when they don't they'll have a wage bill and expectation in the transfer market that their profits and financials won't be able to cover

We at a crossroads, so yes a once off cash injection of say £150 million in addition to reinvesting player sales cash would help. You dont have to treat it like a play thing just sensible assistance in helping the club push on and remain competitive.

Imagine what a £ 150 million outlay on some quality additions would have done to our current campaign... It would have us closer to Liverpool in the league and guaranteed CL for next season.

just trying to collate JJ's info on outgoings into three categories: ref outs, likely outs and the "left field" outs:
1. Eriksen and Toby gone - prob raise 100 mill
2. Janssen, Fernando, GKN, Vorm, Sterling (+dembele gone) 20 mill
3. Trippier, Aurier, 40-50 mill
---------------------------------------
Remaining 1st team squad: kane, lucas, son, alli, lamela (5 forwards); winks, sissoko, dier, skipp, wanyama (5 midfield including v young skipp and injury prone big vic); rose, davies, kwp, verts, sanchez, foyth (6 def); hugo, gazza (2 keepers). That is a small group even by Poch standards and assuming Vic and Skipp can be trusted as first teamers.
18 players. Means we need at least one more keeper and probably 5 outfield players. Gets us to 24 and then a few youth to build out.
5 players with 150-170 million is doable.
Grealish - 30
Sessegnon x 2 - 30
Wan Bissaka - 40
Brooks - 40
Tierney - 30

You never know, the owners may very well do something like that in the future. People need to remember that the money Liverpools owners have given to them isn't like the City owners, it's been loaned to Liverpool albeit at a low or next to nothing interest rate. The club took a risk, backed Klopp granted, but they don't have a c£500m-£600m debt hanging over their heads like we do.

Tough times but good times all the same,we can't control it so I don't see why people don't just sit back and try their best to enjoy the levels we get to see the club play at at present. Bernabeu, Nou Camp, the last 8 in Europes elite competition, it's a great thing to experience

Spending the amount i suggested on prudent player acquisitions who increase in value is a no brainer. Yes very much like what Liverpool have done. That would not have impacted the debt at all instead it would ensure financial stability as you'd have current scenario of the dippers assured if CL football. I can assure you they will reinvest this season too, thus assuring they stay at that level.

Look ultimately we worked for many years to get to this level. All i wanted was continued long term player investment to keep us competitive AND continue to keep Chelsea and Arsenal out if those CL positions.

Janssen cost £20m and hasn't increased in value, the same with Nkoudou, a fair few others at other clubs etc. Kovacic last summer was a £59m-£60m player and I've seen nothing of him to convince me that it would be money well justified and well spent. How do we know a player will increase in value? Fabinho and Naby Keita I'm sure will come good but there £120m worth of players there beinkept our by Wijnaldum, Henderson & Milner, no guarantees investments will be prudent and no brainers.

We are still where we are, until that changes I'm content backing the clubs judgement. Nobody there doesn't want to see the club do well and believe me they know a hell of a lot more going on behind the seems and why they make those choices than we ever will.

Have faith in the boys and remember that a project like ours withna £1bn investment is do or die for us, it makes £50m more like £200m when it comes to transfer fees. Debts are debts and we have the biggest debts in football at present. We have to ride this wave until the next phase comes along, whenever that may be

I dont think a massive overhaul is a great idea, its had a negative impact rather than positive for us and other teams in the past. It seems too much change causes disruption and you end going backwards for quite some time.
I hope we look at 2 top drawer incomings, walk into the 1st XI type players and then 1 possibly 2 for the future.

1. A top quality DM, the best we can possibly afford, is what I feel we should prioritize. If we cannot get someone who can build from the back and also protect the back 4 then we may need 2 deep lying CMs.

2. A replacement for Eriksen, his creativity through the middle will be a huge miss when he leaves. We need someone who can do the things he does.

A couple of new full-backs would be nice but a couple for Poch to develop might be a good option.

I agree on general basis, but as a result of doing this approach to a very great extent for many transfer windows, after a few seasons a higher number of players is needed. For the first time in ages, I believe we need 4 player of various positions, who could immediately fight for a starting spot. I very well know it won't happen, but I think it's what we would have needed. CB and CM we need absolutely, secondarily top AM and top FB would be extremely smart.

On the upside, and also for the first time in a long while, I don't think we'd have to look far to get squad reinforcements. I actually believe there are players playing for teams on the bottom half of PL that could be useful in the assumed squad for next season.

Most or all of these would have made for a very interesting premier league team in a 4231 formation (no goalie or striker because that's what we don't need).
RB: Wan-Bissaka, CBs: Jan Bednarek, James Tarkowski, LB: Lucas Digne
DM/CMs: Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans,
AMs: Ward-Prowse, James Maddison, Felipe Anderson

the last 10 pages are so worrying?

potential Pochettino walk. No sign of immediate spending on players needed. Big players leaving.
the only thing keeping us relevant in top 6 for past 5 years is Pochettino, this is proper potential meltdown.

FFS the agent was talking to Barca and doing a deal with them as well we were never allowed to bid more or counter it once that happened. Deal closed.

JJ there are some members that want us to throw whatever money it takes even if it’s just to win a CoC. They think we can compete with the top clubs in the world, but don’t understand if a player gets half a sniff to play for Barca, RM, or any of the big boys we don’t stand a chance.

They don’t understand the effect 1 new player that has never played in the hardest league in the world, but because of the money coming in, that player might want stupid wages like the others pay, and the effect it has on others already at the club.

You still get people saying we shouldn’t of let City take Walker unless Sancho was thrown in. The Walker deal was agreed way before Sancho, and Walker wanted out way before that. Pointless keeping a player that doesn’t want to be here, and think we are seeing Eriksens performances dip for the same reasons

I think we should or should’ve already gone for him. Whenever I see him I essentially think “this is what Ben Davies would be like if he was rapid.” Got a cracking left foot on him too.

He’s going to be expensive for a Scottish player, probably at least £25m, but we need to be committing for these sorts of players before they’re proven. 1 good season in the prem and he’s £50m and out of sight.

I don’t ever want us to sign a full-back again who isn’t lightning quick and full of energy. It’s absolutely crucial to the way we play and it’s frankly just horrendous planning that out of the 5 full-backs we have only Rose could be described as particularly quick, and even he is on the decline.

Thank you for that. You've pretty much said what I thought/hoped, re price.

Yeah it's a fair amount for a player from Scotland but, when you see figures of £50m+ for the likes of Sessegnon etc, it's a relative bargain in today's prices.

I'm also assuming he'll have CL experience, too?

He looks perfect for us to be honest. Not cheap but gettable and now semi-proven in the EPL. Would be pretty shocked if we weren’t sniffing around.

Again, if the reported figure of £40m is legit, in today's crazy inflated prices, it's not really that expensive. Is it?

People need to accept that most clubs in the league at present are ran via owner shares, owner loans repayable or for vanity.

Do people genuinely think these owners that do throw money at clubs either:

a. Don't expect their money back eventually like at Chelsea
b. Will continue throwing money at something that isn't making them as much as it's costing them

Also just because a small minority of other football club owners have gone absolutely insane doesn't mean our club has to. We've invested huge amounts into having the 2nd biggest stadium in England, and the 5th in Europe compared against teams richer than us (behind Man U, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich).

Surely people understand that this is a bigger, more important investment than signing a £50m midfielder or a £75m CB

To be honest with Man C owners as good as being owners of one of the richest states in the world, they will continuously throw money at it. They might receive a ban for a season, they might even receive a ban from Europe in the end, but the damage they have done in spending, and the amount of youth they have, they are going to dominate for a very long time

personal frustrated opinion here but our owner could stick his hand in his pocket and help our chairman massively and we can really push on but it never bloody happens so its run as business not a plaything like Chelsea City PSG & Liverpool!!

just asking JJ with FFP, would old Joe of been able to throw that much at it in the old WHL? if so the 1 window that stands out was the Nelson/Saha 1, where the right deals would of most probably guaranteed CL that season, though that season with Redknapp and tax evasion, then the murmurs of the England job never helped.

though we should be a little thankful to the old git, wasn't Poch his choice?

Umtiti being spoken about as a potential exit from Barcelona. I'm assuming he's out of our reach? (Though he's supposedly said he would like United or City if he has to leave)
