Not quite, JJ just said we weren't interested.

Interesting that we were "watching" DMs going into the January 2019 window but weren't credibly linked with a single one either that window or last summer despite it being absolutely blindingly obvious that it was one of the biggest weaknesses in the squad, an area of absolutely desperate need. Something about our transfer setup, whether it's on Levy's end or whether it's Poch's selection of targets, is completely and utterly broken.

Probably hoping Dier would be back on form but that hasn't happened.

We need someone else doing the transfers with Poch coaching the players.A return to the old methods. He won’t stand for that though I suspect.

He probably meant that he wants current players to extend contracts (other than Wanyama and Aurier) but since they won't we will have to buy new ones and that it's not really his fault. He didn't lose interest in Dybala over night, especially after our results so far. Seeing us linked with Zakaria is encouraging if true, we need improvements in DM position.

You would obviously hope he has every intention of bolstering the squad in January, I think it's just a little frustrating to hear for fans because we quite blatantly need certain acquisitions and we've already had to endure windows of no signings that have hampered the performance of the team so comments such as Poch's yesterday can feel a bit like a slap in the face.

I don't think he would say much different at this stage though because I think he's trying to build as positive a feeling as possible with the current crop of players. We have a lot of games between now and January so probably in Poch's mind it's important to make the players who are there feel as important as possible

The whole not signing during Jan comment is probably to demonstrate faith in the current playing staff and build unity as were his comments around their abilities etc throughout the press conference. Personally I think if there are deals to be done, incomings and outgoings in Jan then we will be doing something

especially after JJ? said we’ll be very busy in Jan.

All I would say about Zakaria is that he might not have been deemed good enough in January 2019 but has likely come a long way since then and nothing to say he's not someone that has come back onto our radar. He's very young and development at that age can be rapid. Just look at Dele's climb to prominence after joining us. Didn't take him long to go from League 1 standout to one of the best players in the Prem, current form notwithstanding.

Absolutely - regular games and finding your role in your team, plus a bit of confidence can help a young player come on leaps and bounds. No reason at all why we shouldn't be revisiting some potential options regularly to see if they develop against expectations.

Worth noting that the combination above can easily be undone with the wrong move/style of play killing confidence.

Think Marc Roca (Espanyol) would be an excellent acquisition.

Maybe not an out and out DM, but is still very good at getting in early and regaining possession.

Doesn't drift wide or too far forward, and with his ability to execute forward passes that find his desired target, I think he could well be what we're looking for.

Last I read he had a release clause for about €40 million. From what I've seen of him that looks more than reasonable.

The Spurs reporter on the Athletic seems to think his comment was in regards to Eriksen not leaving in January. Ie. do not expect him to go then.

Educated guess perhaps
