January will be stressful.

I tend to think that it's going to be more important getting players out, than in.
Clear the decks of those that don't want to be here, won't commit to the future, or won't buy into the managers plans.

If we are looking to buy, I fucking well hope we're working on the deals already and have a clear plan of what we're doing.

Here’s the team I made out for it

Donnarumma

From that list, along with the players we currently have, I'd like to see us do good dealings and try to get something resembling similar to:

Donnarumma
Meunier
Upamecano
Badiashile
Telles
Weigl
Ndombele
Lo Celso
Draxler
Son
Kane

Backup - Gazzaniga, Foyth, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Sissoko, Winks, Dele, Lucas, Clarke, Lamela, Cavani

Only the 8 signings required in my 22 then

This is why we are always so mad come deadline day, we are hopelessly unrealistic

IMO it's ridiculous that people think we start negotiating deals when the transfer window opens and then close down again once it closes. The window is when deals can be finalised but I'm sure were looking at potential signings or sales all the time. Football transfers are like buying a house, where there's a long chain and everything has to fall into place for stuff to happen., and one hiccup and the whole lot falls apart.

I've had Christmas present wish lists come closer to realty than half of those players mentioned ?.

The biggest issue is though that over the next couple of seasons we will probably need 7-8 new first team players. At the moment pretty much a whole new back 5, a new CM perhaps and a new AM on the agenda from now until summer 2021 :s

Yeah and we aren't going to be able to fill those roles with all top quality players for all 8 or so. A lot of us said it during that 2018 window, it wasn't not signing players for that season it was the failure to recycle and then playing catch up. Signing 2 youth players and Lo Celso/Ndombele whilst selling only Trippier and losing Llorente/Vorm wasn't a recycle either so we put ourselves further behind. Only way I see us getting back on track is if we do at the least 3 in and 3 out in January and in recent years you'd say you can't see it happening. Levy did it before though in the season he brought back Defoe.

Dinamo have a decent chance of finishing second in group stages of CL, then Olmo will be available only in summer. We should still look to sign him ASAP even if it means waiting for him, perfect replacement for Eriksen. I think we will go for Fernandes instead though.

I'd hope so but sometimes, I'm not so sure!

well hopefully JJ's post about January being fun is true, especially when looking at transfer market we have only bought 1 player in January under Poch, and due to his 72 mins of football prior to signing for us halfway through a season hardly kicked a ball in anger for most of it

Sweet Jesus, we're pinning our hopes to January ?

Fucking watch the meltdown on the 31st @ 11.00pm

We tried lol.

To be honest, I'm hoping we see serious improvements before then, we've still got an excellent squad.

Honestly can’t see much major happening in January. 2 at most be my guess. Eriksen out who may not even be replaced and probably Alderweireld as well. RB and CB in.

It's an interesting list though as all of these guys will either be out of contract or have 1 year left come the end of this season. We don't have a track record of free transfer dealings but the one year left deals fascinate me:

I've stuck the price of each based on their contract issues next to each player. If we got the green light for let's say £120m to spend we could get 2-3 times the quality we usually would. With most of the PL teams having spent their TV money now would be a great time to be daring in the market:

Contracts expiring 2020 so all of the below will be peanuts come January:

GK - Alexander Nubel (£10m or free in summer)
RB - Thomas Meunier (&10m or free in summer)
CB - Timothy Fosu-Mensah (£10m or free in summer)
CB - Eric Bailly (£10m or free in summer)
LB -Layvin Kurzawa (£7.5m or free in summer)
DM - Boubakary Soumare (£10m or free in summer)
DM - Nemanja Matic (£5m or free in summer)
CM - Ever Banega (£5m or free in summer)
AM - Mario Gotze (£10m or free in summer)
AM - Ryan Fraser (£15m or free in summer)
FWD - Edinson Cavani (£15m or free in summer)/ Dries Mertens (£10m or free in summer)

Contracts expiring 2021, knockdown fee time next summer:

GK - Gianluigi Donnarumma (£30m) / Jack Butland (£10m)
RB - Lukas Klostermann (£25m) / Elseid Hysej (£15m
CB - Dayot Upamecano (£40m) / Malang Sarr (£20m)
CB - Mathias Ginter (£25m) / Benoit Badiashile (£20m)
LB - Alex Telles (£25m) / Juan Bernat (£15m) / Alejandro Grimaldo (£20m)
DM - Sander Berge (£15m) / Sandro Tonali (£25m)/ Julian Weigl (£25m) / Ibrahim Sangare (£20m)
CM - Piotr Zielinski (£25m)
CM - Julian Draxler (£20m)
AM - Dani Olmo (£20m)
AM - Carlos Soler (£20m) / Ferran Torres (£20m) / Florian Thauvin (£25m)/ Memphis Depay (£25m)
FWD - Arkadiuz Milik (£20m) / Kevin Volland (£15m) / Chris Wood (£20m)/ Moussa Marega (£15m)

For £120m we could seriously revamp our squad and bring players in that would usually cost us £40m-£50m a pop for c£10m-£20m.

If my estimated fees are roughly right, £120m in fees could get us Donnaruma, Meunier, Upamecano, Bernat, Weigl. If we need a revamp and there's so much class we could seriously negotiate down on due to them being freebies or being able to sign free deals over the next 15 months we'd may just be able to get quality without having to go out of our financial co fort zone.

£120m spend for a top PL club really isn't that out of the realms of possibility, especially with how much we have made through the new stadium, our Champions League campaign last season and no spend the previous summer.

Even if it were to be just £100m that would still easily get us 5-6 solid players that would add value, players like Kurzawa, Soumare, Sarr, Ginter, Berge & Olmo probably wouldn't cost you anymore than £100m combined with their contract issues looming. It could be a very interesting time with many new faces required an drew many old faces due to move on.

trouble is we have 3 or 4 players on their way out, and most probably not giving it 75% let alone the 110% needed. you then have others not getting enough game time, that when they do get a chance are not playing to the level needed, which leaves the rest of the team thinking WTF why are they being selected and we need to find 200% to cover their sorry arses.

Its a mess and the responsibility is all those on the transfer committee except the youth coach. The big problem is that as fans we all wanted to kick on, we have seen Liverpool not only overtake us from a worse position but show an excellent example of how to kick on after a champions league final heartbreak and so as fans we felt our time is now. Unfortunately the only thing I see as a possibility is a gigantic 2 season (including this one) transition and our fans are sick of transition after 2 years at Wembley. Our time is meant to be now and its gone to shit through poor transfer windows and terrible squad management. Now Im perfectly fine with a transition personally as I accepted its inevitability but I can understand why Poch is fed up, the players are fed up and the fans are fed up.

You’re kind of if ignoring the 25 man squad homegrown requirements too.

Is your post meant to be in the Trump thread? We’ve all done it (posted in wrong thread I mean, rather than mowing a biker down).
Can’t recall tbvh. Certainly not ‘Trump thread’. Was replying to a poster

Maddison would be an ideal replacement for Eriksen, no chance in Jan thou with Leicester flying at the moment.
For $20m he was a steal, we missed a beat on that one.
