Give him the service and he will score.

Drogba, Henry, suarez all took a while before their teams started to see the best out of them.

I seem to remember Benteke being pretty horrendous in his first 6 premier league games and Villa fans were raging that Bent wasn't starting.

Pretty ridiculous that those writing off soldado are clamouring for a player who had a pretty uninspiring start to their premier league career...

I appreciate we spent a lot more and Soldado and he is more experienced but maybe he deserves a bit more patience eh?

Il join you this fucking "must be perfect" attitude is just childish and totally ludicrous.

Must be perfect? Who said that?

I think the thread is about examining how much he's currently contributing to the side.

He has hardly got started. A certain element of the support wants to judge every player negatively before he properly gets started.
The way I look at it, if we have lost one match in ten and conceded two goals in that time before we get started, I really can't wait until our newbies are firing on all cylinders (y)

That's fine not a problem, but a footballer is a human being. He's no different from anyone else. He's lived most of his life in one country, one culture. People are judging him on less than a dozen games at the tip of our sword where everything has changed. I dont care how other fans judge him, personally I don't judge other teams players on anything other than a season. People were judging Siggy saying he wasn't good enough but yet he has scored the most important goals for us this season. Football fans on a whole are fickle, I try to be subjective. He's not playing poorly and he's not playing to the level I have seen him play. If he doesn't start soaring by Christmas il worry, I won't get pulled into the media or fan hype.

I mean if Bobby starts firing them in in a few weeks wot will the moaners say? "Oh that's great, that's wot he's paid for" well I'd say us as fans are to get behind the boys and encourage them not doubt their ability on an incomplete side.

Soldado just needs a break and the floodgates will open. The doubters will change their tune. He has been pretty unlucky, and the combination Townsend and siggurdson is not the best match for his game. And starting Defoe and expecting a different result from the hundreds of times previous is the definition of madness

He is more technical than physical so he can't play alone and needs crosses. When we start playing with wingers he will show up

If he had play the Europa against Dinamo and Tromso it may have helped his goal ratio a fair bit. Give him time and actual decent service and he will score goals.

Soldado has been ok, played a major role in our best start in god knows how long. Maybe he is too unselfish when he should be selfish. He may well end up having more assists than goals this season, but if it takes us to where we want to be then I am cool with that.

I really doubt a thread on Spurscommunity is going to influence his contribution to the team.

If he comes good then great. We did pay over £25M for a 28 year old so I guess everyone was expecting to see a bit more than we have. I'm not concerned about the goal scoring. I'm sure that will come. But I don't think he's the right type of striker to play on his own in the premiership. You need power and supreme pace, neither of which he looks to have.

But early days and I'm sure he'll come good.

Yes re: assists. But I don't think he is too unselfish.

1. He's been involved in a fair few of our PL goals
2. He hasn't missed a sitter
3. That very Spanish looking back heel
4. He hasn't been taking pot shots from outside the area (this is a good thing).

I am happy with his play so far. The prolific goal scoring I feel is just a game or two away.

The whole Soldado transfer made me worry a bit, not to do with him as a player, as a poacher he's absolute quality. But we went from Benteke, who we didn't get, to Soldado. A beastly target man, to an off the shoulder finisher. I'm still not sure our transfer 'committee' are singing from the same hymn sheet.

We've got wingers, but they are played on the other wings from their strongest foot and hence don't get past or in behind defences to cross and create the opportunities that Soldado strives on. Until we have a leftie on the left and righty on the right, he'll be starved of service.

Soldado has played up front on his own plenty. And done the job very well. Doing it in the Premier League is no different to doing it anywhere else. The only thing that can determine his effectiveness is whether or not the team he is playing for (rather than against) is well suited to fielding him up front on his own. We'll find that out soon enough.

Soldado isn't the quickest. But nor is he slow. He isn't the strongest. But nor is he weak. And, in addition to being an outstanding finisher, he has one quality in abundance that is even more important in a lone striker, IMO, than the two attributes that you cite - good, intelligent movement.
