Ireland look far better this week. Stockdale is classy when he cuts his hair.

B team (Ireland) playing a B/C team (Wales). Both teams packed with players obviously trying to impress and do something to nail down a squad place, but inevitably a lot of crap and errors so far with a smattering of nice play. Ireland pack and defence much the better so far though, and playing from a much solider platform.

Jarrod Evans started off alright then got gradually worse as the half went on. I’d imagine Patchell comes on now. Big 40mins for him.

No Rob Evans. I can only think his fitness wasn’t quite there but he was a bit shit yesterday so maybe it was that. Or both.

Owen Watkin instead of Scott Williams. Good to see Amos in. Surprised James Davies is going to.

No Toner. Big call. Not a huge fan of Kleyn.

Shit I didn’t notice that. That is a big call.

Kleyn is that Southh African born bloke at Munster isn’t he?. Have seen him a few times but can’t recall him playing in the green shirt. Did he play any of the warm ups?

You and England have the best locks depth wise, imo. Ryan, Henderson and Bierne are class.

He made his debut against Italy a couple of weeks ago. He only became eligible for us a couple of days before that. I think he played against Wales at the weekend.

He supposed to be in there because he's a bit bulkier than the rest of the locks we have. Think I'd rather have Toner. He's supposed to be pivotal to our line-out success, and not just because he's 10ft tall.

Yeah leaving someone out as experienced as Toner is always a gamble but then it’s akso good to take some unknowns out there to keep opposition coaches on their toes.

Gats, in his infinite wisdom, agrees with me that this is one of the most open world cups ever. He says 7 teams can win it. I say more like 5 but you should never rule out France or the Ozzie’s and, to a lesser extent, Argentina.

Also praised England a lot.

Can’t wait now. Think I’ll just stay in here as opposed to the “beginning of the end” thread or any of the other depressing shit going on at Spurs.

Ireland look like they're trying to pick as big a team as possible. Bosh tactic hasn't been working, so time for even more bosh.

I think their hopes though largely rest on Murray/Sexton at 9 and 10 a) being fit, and b) rediscovering their mojo.

Irish lineout v England was a complete shambles so leaving Toner out is a big call.

So, early predictions. Where do England and Ireland finish in their groups and how far do they get?

We should top our group, but we're likely going to be playing South Africa or New Zealand in the 1/4's. If we play like we have been this year we won't beat either of them. I think we play the minnows of our group at the end, so if we do what we should at the start then at least we'll have a small break before we play them. In the last World Cup we had a great win over France, but played Argentina in the 1/4's the following week and the French game took a lot out of us.
