Has it been asked if we trust Mourinho with this rebuild? Or do we assume he’s going to go for players who are somewhat passed it since he likes those experienced 30+ year olds
Oh yes - it's been asked mate. Lots of times. Lots and lots of times. Just go on the Mourinho thread. I think that he will go for one or two experienced players but that's good I reckon. We've been crying out for that IMO.

I think the scouting of and recruitment of players is going to be key here

Jose will need to shop in our market, Levy will need to actually get deals done for the players we want in/out with enough time in the window to give us the best chance of having a settled squad

I hope we don't have to sell the likes of Son and Kane to fund such a rebuild

In my eyes, we'd be better off with a DOF who could take charge and allow Levy to step away from these deals, just delegate with a clear remit to the DOF and have him and Jose plan the rebuild

I don't see Levy doing anything much different in the transfer market though and I still expect him to haggle and haggle, miss out on several key targets and bring some in in the closing days of the window, while we all think about what could have been had the goal posts not been moved for the latest Dybala or Bruno

I'll start in a different end, here are the players I like and I have no need to get rid of (although upgrades/competition would be welcome):
Lloris, Aurier, Tanganga, Vertonghen, Dier, Davies, Lucas, Dele, Son, Bergwijn, Kane. Edit: Lo Celso.
That's about 11 players, and glaringly no CMs. Hence, we'd need 7 more players to fill a matchday squad. I'll add Lo Celso to the ones to keep so I don't get to much negative attention.

Aarons, Cantwell and Pukki from Norwich may not be the sexiest shopping list but they should be gettable and are certainly an upgrade on what we have available now.

Let’s assume Mourinho has a way he wants to play and knows how he’d like to form a squad. That would be a start, and it’s something that he realistically do know but he has found it impossible (in his view) to do with injuries and so on.

Let’s assume that is a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 and take a look at our squad:

Goalkeepers:

Lloris and Whiteman - Lloris is not as reliable as he once was. But he’s fine and probably one important figure in a time of transition. First and foremost, we have other areas that’s more alarming. Whiteman as a third choice is okay to me, but neither Poch or Mourinho has been comfortable and he needs to get games. Up to him I guess if he’s happy to be the third guy. Both stays.

Vorm and Gazzaniga - Vorm is not good enough, and he retired this summer so who’s to blame him. Gazzaniga is a fine second choice who seems to be a good charachter, but if he wants to have a chance to be a starter somewhere (he hasn’t been as a senior) now is the time and he’s not at a level which makes him that option here.

Central defenders:

Foyth - I’d like him to stay. I’m not sure Mourinho or Foyth do feel the same way. Hopefully a loan. Bournemouth? Portugal?

Vertonghen - Love him, but it’s time.

Dier - Sign him to a new deal. Leader, and will be a good enough CB to hold a place in the squad and do a job. Stays.

Sanchez and Alderweireld - Sanchez is our best CB. People talk about Upamecano but Sanchez is as a defender superior, (Upamecano is better at handling the ball though). Sanchez must stay and be trusted. Toby is going downhill, but if he can adjust to his physical limitations he has the smartness to cope. Both stays.

Tanganga - One of the few positives. Can see him being cover for the defensive full-back role as well as a rotational CB. Stays.

Full-backs:

Aurier and Walker-Peters - Aurier is good going forward, but he makes to much mistakes and it seems hard to coach it out of him. Soon 28, and two years remaining on his contract. Not, i my opinion, our numer one priority but yes, he should be sold.
Walker-Peters, let’s hope his plays Southamptons last 8/9 games and earn him a permanent Premier League-transfer.

Rose - Thank you for all you’ve done. Hopefully for him and for us, Newcastle wants to extend his stay.

Davies and Sessegnon - Davies is an important member of the squad. Especially if Mourinho goes DFB/OFB. Sessegnon is versitale but I see him at left-back going forward and that position is set. Both stays.

Central midfielders:

Winks and Skipp - I think highly of Winks, and Skipp as well. Skipp on a 12-month loan might not be a bad idea if we bring someone in. Championship or Germany. Winks should be seen as an important member of our team, as a person and as a player. Stays.

Ndombele - Our most talented player. ITK mentioned Mourinho being very high on him. I hope he still is and that Tanguy turns it around, a good summer with training, a year in the country and with the team. If he steps up, he’s the real game-changer. Hopefully stays.

Gedson - one more season to prove his place. Good back-up for Ndombele with ball-carrying skills and a bit more technical then Sissoko who I suspect we will see further up the pitch. Stays.

Attacking midfielders:

Sissoko and Lamela - Two players who we might see going? I’m up for both staying. Sissoko brings physicality, runs and can always be trusted do give 110%. Perfect squad player and a defensive winger for Mourinho. Lamela has his problems, and a good bid should see him go. But with his fighting and his impacts on games, not least from the bench is really good. A crafter, and a nasty bastard. Can see Mourinho put a lot of faith in him, if healthy... Both stays.

Dele and Lo Celso - Lo Celso is world class. I think Dele’s output could be too. Together in more advanced positions (for Lo Celso) I think we might see a great partnership with these two. Must stays.

Wingers:

Son and Bergwijn - Son is top class, Bergwijn is a real talent with a high level of performance already. Both stays.

Lucas - Mourinho seem to love him. I think it might be time to say thank you for the amazing memories and good luck. Gives all, but not clever enough with the ball and not effective enough when starting.

Strikers:

Kane - Please. Worth more then anything we could buy. Makes us relevant. I’d understand if he thinks this is his chance. But no, keep him at all costs. Give him the armband. Handle his games better and give him the oppurtunity to lead us to something great. Please stay.

Parrott - Loan him out for the season to a club where he gets game time and trust.

Loanees/youngsters:

Clarke, Eyoma, Sterling, Austin - should go out on loan.
Carter-Vickers, Georgiou, Amos, Marsh, Roles - sell, Amos is good but might go in a deal for Eze?
Cirkin and White - pre-season decide I guess but might be closest to be included. There are people with better informed opinions here though.

Conclusion - outgoings ~ £75M:
Gazzaniga (£7.5M), Vorm (free), Foyth (loan-fee), Vertonghen (free), Carter-Vickers (£5M), Walker-Peters (£10M), Aurier (£17.5M), Rose (£7.5M), Georgiou (free), Amos (£5M), Marsh (nominal), Skipp (loan-fee), Roles (£2.5M), Lucas/Sissoko (£20M), Parrott (loan-fee).

This gives us positions to fill at GK, CB, RB, CM and ST. Realistic targets:

Goalkeeper - Ben Foster. Free. Experienced. Really good ball-stopper. Perfect.

Central defender - Ben Godfrey is the cheaper option. Quick, good with the ball. Very talented and Norwich is going down. Fine positional sense. Ruben Dias is the steeper option with similiar skills.

Right back - Max Aarons or Youcef Atal. Offensive. Fast. Atal is the better player, if he recovers from injuries. Aarons is english and might be more gettable.

Central midfielder - Bouakary Soumaré or Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. Not the defensive destroyer many seem to want. Especially not Soumaré. But great talents, with some excellent attributes.

Attacking midfielder - Not a position of need per se, but I think we will se a player coming in. Eberechi Eze or Willian. Eze has been on our radar for a while. Willian is a Mourinho-lover, and Mourinho is a Willian-lover. Eze offers something different and has the future for him. Willians contract is up and you know Mourinho likes players he trust, might as well keep Lucas though.

Striker - Victor Osimhen or... who? Osimhen is probably first choice and he’s a great one. Can lead the line, should be able to play with Harry as well. Options? The old, Llorente-esque road with a Giroud? The similiar to Osimhen Moussa Dembele? Someone is a must.

Conclusion - incomings ~ £135M.
Foster (free), Godfrey (£25M), Aarons (£25M), Soumaré (£35M), Eze (£15M), Osimhen (£35M).

An outlay of ~ £60M and a squad looking like this:

4-2-3-1: Lloris - Aarons, Sanchez, Godfrey, Davies - Ndombele, Soumaré - Lo Celso, Dele, Son - Kane.

(Foster/Whiteman - Tanganga, Alderweireld, Dier, Sessegnon/Cirkin - Gedson, Winks - Lamela, Eze, Bergwijn/Sissoko - Osimhen).

This was long. If someone got here - thanks for your time and I wish you a good day, enjoy it. Now I should go back doing something more important but I really can’t get this club out of my head. Come on you Spurs.

Just think, Paul Mitchell helped put together the RB Leipzeg team.

Imagine if Levy actually hadn’t pissed him off (which is probably what happened lol) we could have actually recruited some decent players and Poch might not have gotten so pissed off and gave up on the job like he did.

So disillusioned at the moment, going from loving the manager and our team on a continuing upward surge to this.

Yeah we have very bad injury issues but if we actually had another senior centre forward and had refreshed other parts of the team (right back, centre back and defensive midfield) when needed we would have been coping a lot better.

Levy has shown he just cannot oversee the player recruitment side as he has no idea.

The eternal optimist in me just hopes that the profits from new stadium will start to make a difference soon but I won’t hold my breath.

Right for shits and giggles let’s look at squad.

Goalkeeper

Tricky decision but maybe not absolute priority although Lloris and Gazzaniga have had their dodgy moments this season but how much of that can also be blamed on instability in front of them. If a good goalkeeper becomes available yeah but not an absolute priority compared to other positions.

Right back

Two new right backs please. Still pisses Persira is at Leceister and one of best right backs in the league and we settled with Aurier. Aurier needs to go as has shit mentality and still prone to too many moments of pure stupidity.

Left back

Happy with Davies for now, it depends on how well Cirkin develops as would always prefer a youth player step up if possible. Flog Rose as he just needs to go as sometimes a player‘s time at a club just needs to end. Also need to work on Sessegnon and see if he is going to be a left back or left midfielder.

Centre back

Alderweireld and Vertonghen need to go for me, Tanganga showed a lot of promise but has been a bit iffy lately but hopefully will come through it. I also don’t have confidence in Foyth at centre back as he’s just too rash for me so we definitely need at least one new centre back to go in pot with Sanchez, Dier and Tanganga.

Defensive midfield

Another tricky one as Skipp needs to be given a run as no point developing own players if then not gonna use them. At least we have finally got Wanyama off wage bill after his sad decline so we do need another specialist defensive midfielder.

Box to box midfielders

Would like to see Lo Celso and Winks tried alongside a proper defensive midfielder behind Kane and two wingers. Ndombele is a tough one and should be given next season and if still not doing it cut our losses although don’t want to do so too early as sometimes players do just take a while to adjust. If we get a defensive midfielder in think we can leave box to box midfielders as is as have options there.

Wingers

Bergwijn and Son either side of Kane is the dream for me. Moura is strictly back up / impact player and needs to be seen if Sessegnon will make it as a left winger. I think we need another who is a right sider as aside from Moura they all seem more comfy of left although can play on right (and maybe switch sides during games). Lamela too injury prone as well so sadly would sell if could.

Up top

Another centre forward to support Kane is an absolute must. At this moment in time would sell Dele too if offered a good amount and look to play 4-3-3 next season with Kane benefitting from having some pacey players wide of him like he has for England.

Sell

Rose
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Aurier
Foyth?? (unless we try to convert to right back again, where he had shown promise)
Dele
Lamela

Buy

Defensive midfielder who gets stuck in and isnt a puss

You know that Paul Mitchell made only one significant transfer for RB Leipzig for the team that beat us 2 days ago? Nkunku from PSG, because they didn't have game time there, same as we buy from them Lucas and Aurier?

Kane wants to win trophies and ideally he wants to win them with Spurs. It must be obvious to him now that that isn’t going to happen. Fantastic training ground and stadium, but in footballing terms we have slid back to where we were pre-Redknapp, arguably pre-Arnesen. No European football and a broken squad.

It seems unkind to force Kane to stay. He - and Son too - are at the peak of their careers, and would be stand out players at clubs doing much better than Spurs are right now. If they want to leave then we should consider cashing in, before the wear and tear that has eviscerated our squad starts to take its toll on them too.

I don't see anyway we will be in the market for the multiple players being suggested without selling at least one of our prime assets and , unfortunately, that is likely to be HK.

agreed fully with this. I think we may be able to bring in £20 m for other outgoings but without selling Kane I wouldn’t see us being able to spend more than 60-70m.
My thoughts would be to secure Aarons and Lewis and Eze ewrly. After that I would imagine the priority is a CD and DCM and a good one at that. I could not imagine we would do much (if even as much !) business as that.
hindsight is a wonderful thing but it is baffling how we as a club have let this happen to our first team squad. Truly baffling. We may very see be scar don the hairy to medium term by an excellent crop of U19 players that may come into Trix squad over the next 2-3 years. The new Spurs may well be based around Parrott,Tanganga, White, Cirkin and Skipp. Sadly though - they aren’t gonna win us the league or the CL.

There's definitely going to be another spend up - a la when we sold Bale.

Sell Kane (150), Aurier (15), Lamela (15), Foyth (15), KWP (15), Rose (10), CCV (8) to generate funds of roughly £225m

Release Verts and Vorm.

If papers & ITK to be believed, buy Osimhen (40), Giroud (Free), Hojberg (20), Eze (20), N.Ferguson (Free?), Aarons (30), B.Barisic or Cucurella (22), Militao or Dias or Godfrey (45), Sabitzer (40), Ramsdale (25) which comes to about £252m.

Bobs yer uncle - you've got 2 CFs, 2 RBs, A DM, An AM, A LB, A CB, A RW, and a Home Grown GK.

Which admittedly is 10 players incoming for around £25m outlay . I highly doubt this is what will happen but I believe it's what is needed this summer.

Hmmn - just have to send them on a team bonding weekend and it'll be fine :ROFLMAO: .

--

Osimhen / Giroud / (Parrot)

Son / Bergwijn
Eze / Dele
Sabitzer / Lucas

Lo Celso / Ndombele / Gedson
Hojberg / Sissoko / Winks / (Skipp)

Barisic / Davies / (R.Sess)
Godfrey / Dier / (Tanganga)
Toby / Sanchez
(Aarons) / (Ferguson)

Lloris / Ramsdale / Gazzaniga

29 players.
International players - 17
Home Grown - 6
(U21) - 6

--

I'd prefer to buy Bogle for one of the RB spots, trade in Lloris, and loan Sessegnon & Skipp, but based off the info out there, the above is near to what I'd like to see . Leave Dele, Lucas, Sissoko, Sanchez, Winks, Dier and Davies for another window...

All the Football Manager players on here with their odd abbreviations of positions and their in depth knowledge of a semi accurate simulated transfer market are nailing these rebuilds!

You'd pay £80M, which realistically is more than our entire summer budget will be, for 2 very young full backs from a bottom of the table side, and consider the defence sorted?

Well robertson went down with Hull and is now one of the best LBs in the world and on the other side it was a youth team RW who played there in an emergency. Dont look down on players in relegated sides. As their full backs looked miles ahead of ours every time weve played them

Looking at the squad there are some quick fixes out there. If money is tight we could kick the can down the road and sell a few and sogn a few free transfers. Willian RW Matic DM Kurzawa LB Menuier RB Gotze AM are all available on frees this summer. Means we will have two much needed fullbacks DM depth and an intelligent wide player. This would allow us to spend money in the right areas CB and a real beast of a DM and proper CF cover. Also competition at RB. So we could arguable sell aurier and lucas raising funds and in short term replace them for nothing with upgrades. I think its something we should look at. We need to be smart and plug gaps. Cant go through a season with 1 LB 1 RB and 1 CF like this season

Only thing with that is somewhere we need to bring in some home growns or England U21s to make sure we're compliant.
