After three games played, early signs are that City, Liverpool and Arsenal are the three best teams and are likely to finish 1-3.

That leaves Tottenham, Newcastle, Villa, Chelsea and United as a probable group of five that will fight for the rest.

I think there is a high probability that 5th will get CL football next season, leaving two spots up for grabs.

The reason it wasn't enough last season included:
- United having a shocker in their group against poor opposition.
- Newcastle getting the group of death.
- Villa chasing CL football in the latter stages of the Conference League.
- Brighton without previous European experience, drawing Roma in the 1st knockout round of the Europa League.

Of course similar things can happen this season, but less likely IMO with the new European format.

I know people are down on the start of the season and the transfer window, but I think we have a great chance of finishing 4th or 5th.

I'll be bold on the first page and say that our biggest chance of European football next season will not come from the league but from winning a cup, be that domestic or European.

I would be fine with this. Feel like I need to add it to my profile but I cannot state this enough: just win the Europa League. Jobs done.

If it goes to 5th place, I think that is doable. Don't think Villa will be as good this year, especially with CL football, could see them doing a Newcastle. Also think Newcastle will struggle once the season gets going and more games come, they don't seem to have much squad depth.

Chelsea is the biggest question mark, they have enough quality to push for CL but....can they get them all the gel. United I don't think are going to be a threat, they look poor all over. At least we have looked capable of doing something we just need to find our finishing boots (and get Solanke and Richarlison fit).

Villa have CL to focus on (like Newcastle did last year), I wasn't overly impressed with Newcastle yesterday and United are well.. United under Ten Hag and I can't see the summer signings making too much of a difference.

It'll be tight for 4th-7th and then you have Brighton and Chelsea who nobody knows how they'll get on in the mix as well.

Thankfully United look shit but Ugarte could make a massive difference much like Casemiro did for them when he could run.

Other than that we just have to hope for injury luck but it seems very obvious who the top 3 are going to be.

If we’d signed one or two more we could have overtaken Villa but not now I don’t think.

We already know as Spurs fans that if 5th is good for Champion's League that that means we'll finish 6th on Goals scored.

I predicted 5th for this season and i'll stick with it for now but could easily see us 6th or 7th, agree with others saying Europa is probably our best ticket back into CL. Would be ideal really.

I’d honestly rather we put our full focus on the cups.

Same with me. I don't want to greatly expand on things as it's a topic that is probably repeated in other and more suitable threads, but I genuinely massively question whether we are set up as a club to reach the heights that I used to hope we'd hit, whether we have CL or not. Time will tell under this slightly new setup, but I do most certainly have my doubts. Really want us to have Wembley trips to look forward to and hopefully a title at the end of them.

Love this, forgot that 5th could be in play for CL again this season.

I think 5th place is certainly achievable if we are ok with injuries.

Think it's too early to group Liverpool in with City & Arsenal. Always looked to be a comfortable start for Slot and think they'll hit a blip from Mid-Oct to End-Nov.

Going to be such a tight race for 3-5. Each of the teams have issues so it's all there for the taking.

Nah, their attack looks miles better than Arsenal's.

Players like Gravenbirch in midfield looking excellent now as well

Theyll be City's closet challengers this season imo.

Liverpool is really good let’s not kid ourselves. They haven’t missed a beat in quality with Slot. Kinda like a different brand but tastes just as good. Honestly envious because I really wanted him as first choice before Ange

I think we'll be doing well to get in the top four although this season that is very secondary for me. I am dead keen on actually making a fist of it in the EL and domestics.

Agree.

I remember a lot of signs at one point indicating he was our number one choice. I wonder if it was that he didn't want us or our changes at the top decided to go elsewhere.

It is but arsenal could easily drop points 3 games in a row as they have to come to us with no rice then play city. So arsenal could be already be 6-7 points behind city that early on
