Washington should change its name simply because Redskins is a shit name but if I were Dan Snyder I'd change it to the Washington Uighurs as a giant fuck you to Nike.

the Redskins are no more. kind of hard to believe it took so long.

By Snyder's own admission it took the sponsors pulling out for them to change it.

Seems like they will be the Red Wolves (seems Arkansas State is pushing back on the trademark which is slowing the announcement), which seems the smartest move. It gets them out of issues with Native Americans (which "Warrirors" could have pulled them into if they did something stupid; it's Washington so they would have done something stupid). It lets them dodge any more potential political conversations that would have come with Red Tails (which i actually think would have been a cooler name) and it is unique as there are no other "wolf" themed teams in the NFL.

Redskins is offensive, even to an old fart like me. Names like Braves and Indians less so, though I know its not up to me. I always thought it was sort of complimentary.

I think part of the problem with the Indians seems to come from their logo. Why is the Chiefs fine though?

seriously though, most regions of the US have names, traditions and history with the native population. even if we did treat them very poorly.

Redskins was offensive to me as well. Some of the naming stuff i think they just overthink. I don't think the Chiefs is a problem, never had an issue with the Seminoles, or the Utes or Aztecs or Chippewas. i think Indians can work if you frame it correctly (chief Wahoo isn't doing correctly) same with Braves. But Redskins, Red Raiders, Red Men, Savages all seem offensive.

20-something years ago when i was in high school our school name was The Warriors with a Native American chief as the symbol. People started talking that maybe we should call it something different. In the meeting at the school while people were proposing all sorts of things my father stood up and said "Why not change the emblem?....All sorts of warriors in the world, change it to a viking or a visigoth or a celt or a roman or whatever and it no longer is anything related to Native Americans".....people stopped nodded and then some woman said "but then someone may be insulted by the new symbol."......20 something years later that school is still "The Warriors" and still has a chief head symbol and from what i have heard (i don't live there), still gets debated 3-4 times a year and the town has never come up with a way to change it. Never underestimate people's ability to overthink something simple.

I will give Colonel Sanders a pass for two reasons.....1) I dig KFC biscuits (though Whataburger Cheddar Jalapeno are the clear cut winner) 2) The women in Oxford are a sight to see.....
whataburger is the bomb. and games in Oxford are purported to be one of the great college football experiences. i didnt go when UT played them a few years ago.
