Oh this Otani thing is laughable. Small market and west coast so its closer to home and feels like home. So like maybe stay in Japan then? Im not even upset about not coming to the Yankees. It’s just a needless charade he’s putting on now though. Dodgers are the token big market. Cubs are the token non west coast. Rangers are uhhh, idk, no chance in hell. Giants are a slight possibility but the Mariners are the obvious pick here. Closest to home, small market, west coast and big Japanease population. I dont get why you just dont sign already and end this charade?

Anyway, Boone’s official. Huge risk but could also be a huge reward too. I love keeping Rothschild on as pitching coach. Our pitching was great last year. Have to keep CC now. I’d put him on the Pettitte contract(essentially a rolling 1 year contract). My pipe dream is looking into getting Machado a year early if Baltimore’s price isnt nuts seeing as he likely wont resign there anyway and i think we’d be favorite to sign him.

Yankees and Phillies are a bit similar here. They both have hired younger managers with zero managerial experience. Also, because the Phillies have an enormous amount of money with a very small payroll, they will be looking to make a huge investment in FA after next season. I'm thinking that the Yankees get either Harper or Machado, with the Phillies getting the other. I'm going to guess that Harper ops for the Yankees, and the Phillies get Machado. I could see the O's trying to trade Machado, if they feel that they would not be able to resign him.

As for Otani, the Phillies had a zero percent chance of signing him, so I kind of want him to go to the Mariners. That way he can DH when he isn't pitching. I'm hoping the Phillies signs some of the international prospects that Atlanta had to let go.

Lifelong O’s fan here. The O’s will never trade Machado. Angelos won’t allow it. We also have zero chance of resigning him. He’ll walk in free agency and we’ll get a draft pick. It’s the wrong thing to do from the O’s perspective, he should be traded, but Angelos is an absolute cancer.

It's weird, because they have an opportunity to receive some high impact prospects. I understand not wanting to trade your best player, but with the O's not really in contention for the World Series, you would think that they would rather get some good prospects instead of one pick in return.

Angelos isn’t interested in being competitive. He’s interested in keeping up the appearance of being competitive to put butts in seats. The O’s will go through the season saying they have every intention of retaining Machado and fielding a competitive bid for him when he hits free agency. Then when free agency hits Machado will sign a 10 year 300m plus contract with the Yankees. Angelos will then cry poor and say the O’s have no chance competing with the “big market” teams in Boston & New York. It’s the most predictable thing in the world. He’s an absolutely loathsome scumbag. Showalter & Duquette have performed absolute miracles in Baltimore making the O’s competitive over the last 5 years or so despite Angelos constantly interfering.

That sucks! I have a few friends that are O's fans, and because I have been living about 1 1/2 hours from Baltimore for over a decade now, I've been pulling for them the past few years. Although, it was tough getting over 1983. I think the O's could do for a bit of a rebuild. Start selling off pieces for prospects, and putting themselves in financial position to start making a run at some high impact free agents in a few years.

if they can keep Stanton healthy that lineup is fucking terrifying.

Lots of strikeouts but pitchers in the AL will end up with whiplash from watching the ball go out of the park....

I thought Ohtani was destined to sign with the Mariners.

Stanton to the Yankees is frightening! That lineup is going to be sick. Glad the Phillies won't have to face it often.

How bad are the Marlins though? How in the hell do you give Stanton that big of a contract, and include a full no trade clause?!?!? Makes that bad contract that much worse. It gave the Marlins no power in trade discussions.

Apparently Machado is going to be traded. I’m absolutely shocked. Nobody in Baltimore thought this would happen. Angelos may still pull the rug out from under Duquette and veto any trade at the last minute. He’s famous for doing that. St. Louis looks to be the most likely destination if he goes.

I've read the same. Looks like Machado is unwilling to discuss an extension, so that rules the Phillies out. This, honestly, would be a good thing for the Phils. If they do trade him to St. Louis, then it would cost the Phillies absolutely nothing if they sign him after this season.

Would love him on the Yankees but if we cant get rid of Ellsbury before hand then we cant really go in for him. Hope he stays in Baltimore for the year and sign him next offseason ideally

Also, wish we’d just end this charade of going for Cole or Corbin or Fulmer and just resign CC. Guy’s such a huge piece for us. Been with us for years now and belongs here. Absolutely love him. Get him on the Pettitte rolling deal and let him retire a Yankees. Resign Todd Frazier for another year, have Gleybar at 2nd. Trade Ellsbury. Frazier/Hicks and Hicks/Frazier trading off starting in center. Stanton and Judge trading off RF and DH.

Still can’t believe we got Giancarlo Stanton for Castro and 2 mid level prospects. Absolutely fucking baffling. Love my guy Starlin we simply had to that trade. Anyone who knows baseball saying they wouldnt have done that trade is what i like to call precrime. Shit contract but for 3-4 years of Stanton in his prime, so worth it. Especially as being under luxury tax cap for a bit now wont kill us in the future when we have to give Judge, Sanchez and Severino huge contracts and go over luxury tax.

I can't believe it either, but that's what happens when the player holds all the cards. The Marlins look really bad. Trading Stanton and Ozuna. Looks like Yelich will be on his way out as well.

That lineup is crazy scary! 100 HRs from 2 players. That's insane! I have no idea, if they will be able to sign Machado. It depends on whether he wants to be hated by O's fans for the rest of his existence.

Wow. Huge gamble by the Phillies. It's funny just a few weeks ago people were complaining that free agents are not getting the deals they deserve. Just crunched the numbers and it averages out at almost 500k/week guaranteed for 13 years. Unless I've misread it none of the money has opt outs or extension options etc it's all guaranteed salary. For the Phillies sake I hope he lives up to his hype!
