Is this the same Sissoko who single handedly ran out midfield whilst also covering RB last year? Yeh he really needs to work on his fitness.

Yep. One of the most ridiculous posts ever. Sissoko must be the fittest player in the squad. If he's moaning about being knackered, imagine how the other players are feeling. Poch had ample time to turn it around, why has he left it this late? Shows a huge lack of tactical awareness and self awareness really.

It soon adds up when you have to run an extra 10 feet with every pass as you're not able to trap the ball... :p

The thing is if Poch cedes to player power and changes his tactics, he’s lost authority. The tail starts wagging the dog. It would be a weird situation.

Yep, he needs to find a way to change the system but on his terms. International break could come at a good time for him to take stock and come up with a new plan for when the players return.

I still don't see how Poch recovers from this. Our form has been dire since Jan, I refuse to believe Levy isn't concerned. I guess Levy will be thinking that he is aware we've been on a dire run since January, but it's a new season and will be hoping Poch turns it around but I would say if we continue like we are, Levy will and must act.

the question is - how long does he let it go like this for?

He does, but it has taken him time and some pretty bad form to adapt in his career.

Liverpool Jan 2017 - October 2017
P25 W10 D10 L5 = 40 points

Spurs Jan 2019 - October 2019
P25 W11 D4 L10 - 37 Points

We have lost a lot more games but a lot of those loses coincided with a highly unique situation for our club, managing a run to the champions league final with numerous injuries to our star players.

Poch needs to stop being stubborn and fast, this is a point in his career where he has the opportunity to learn and improve and evolve and I as well as most on here hopes he does. I'm willing to give him a bit more time. Losing 7-2 and the manner of the capitulation should be enough to stop and make you think.

Klopp, he has done wonders at Liverpool but even their messiah went through some pretty shit form and it took him a decent amount of time to change things to stop their rot.

Klopp has also adapted and then peaked. Poch peaked and has regressed since then.

Good post although we didn't play a diamond up at Anfield, we started out with a back 5 but changed to 4-4-1-1 then 4-4-2

Last seasons results were entirely mitigated though to be honest, better to look at matches from this season.
I really don't think that's true. Regardless of our injury and stadium issues, our dodgy formations and questionable tactics were definitely a big part of why we struggled last season. Even in the first half of the season when we still had Dembele and a fit Dier, our performances were often far worse than our results suggested.

Ever since Poch started experimenting with 2 forwards at the beginning of last season (which later evolved into the diamond) things have been going downhill on the pitch. This season is a direct continuation of that.

We didn't use the diamond formation in every match last season though, only some - I think my point is that we can't point at the formation and use that as the excuse as to why our form was bad, for example we played 4-2-3-1 against Chelsea and lost, there are other factors. The Wolves match we played a diamond but the formation didn't lose us that match, we were just physically fucked, you could see it, we smacked Everton off the park using it for example.

Which is why I think this season since we have no excuses now, no tiredness excuses, no stadium, no small squad...in truth I'm less in favour of the formation but I think it can be used against teams who park the bus or smaller teams if it's done effectively.

Where is Dov? I think questions need to be asked about why he isn't being selected at the moment. And why has A&C gone missing at such a crucial stage of the season? It feels like Robs lost the modding room :cautious:
I’ve usurped him; the mods wanted a younger, more gifted, technician off the bench - so I suppose I’m the Harry Kane of SC whoring!

We’ve not even seen two of the signings made in the summer yet. (Bar a couple of cameos from LoCo) maybe these players will make the formation work. We know some of the players are stale. And Poch has already stated this is the second 5 year plan. So we might just have to swallow this for a season.

dont get me wrong Tuesday was a clusterfuck. and something doesn’t look right.

Rose looked past his sell by date on Tuesday
Aurier we know is unhinged he looked good going forward. But is just not at the level we need.
toby and Jan - see Rose

our once fearsome back line. Now look very vulnerable.
Eriksen is on the beach. Who was regularly our hardest working player. Top of the distance charts for running. Would be interested in what his stats are this year.
Dele looks well short of match fitness but I thought he did better against Bayern than I have seen from him this season.
Sissoko runs his arse off. As does winks and Sonny

Kane is Kane. I followed him during the game and he tries to press. But without anyone really pressing with him he just ends up running side to side. Although both Son and Dele tried to press on Tuesday.

It's not the personel in this system, it's what's being asked of them. The fullbacks and cm's in particular. Then it leaves the cb's exposed.

Anyway lots of clear the air stuff going on, I just hope Poch takes note of what is being said because if we start with the same tactics and formation on the weekend there could well be carnage to follow, regardless of who starts.

It might be too indiscreet to say but are the discontented players the same ones wanting to leave or are they players still wanting to "buy in" but finding that difficult now?

Good to hear, fingers crossed there is a consensus to get back to playing in a way that makes us hard to beat.
